Rev. J.M. Owens III

Rev. J.M. Owens III—or as we call him around here, Pastor Trey—was installed as the Pastor of River Community Church on October 3, 2021. Born and raised in southeast Louisiana, Trey has a soft place in his heart for Spanish moss, crawfish, spicy foods, and live jazz (and in fact all kinds of music). Trey is happy to finally be home in southeast Louisiana, and even more thrilled to be pastoring River Community Church. Geaux Tigers!

Trey understands his call as a pastor means preaching the Word of Christ, modeling Christian discipleship and holiness, and equipping ordinary Christians for the work of ministry. He is passionate to make and equip disciples who abide in Christ, bear spiritual fruit, and serve in their areas of spiritual giftedness. He would love to see River Community Church become known for sound teaching, rich fellowship, generous mercy, and a winsome reputation in the Prairieville area.

When Trey is not preparing, teaching, or meeting with church members, you’re likely to find him enjoying music, movies, or games with his family and friends (including members of River!). His physical hobbies have included at various points ultimate frisbee, golf, tennis, disc golf, swimming, going to the gym, and practicing martial arts.

Prior to his call to River, Pastor Trey served as the Assistant Minister for Youth & Families at First Presbyterian Church in Kosciusko, Mississippi (2013–2021). He also served in a similar role at Christ Presbyterian Church in New Braunfels, TX, from 2009–2012. Trey is a graduate of Belhaven University (’05) and of Reformed Theological Seminary (M.Div., ‘08).

Trey met his wife Hilary while in seminary through the church they both attended. They were married in 2007, and in 2009 they had their first and only son, Samuel.
