Geoff Downey

Rev. Geoff Downey grew up in nominally Catholic home outside Los Angeles. His personal story of God’s rescue centers around when he was 21 years old and God sent two men, from very different backgrounds, into his life. They were saying the same thing about Jesus – that he was the only way to God – and the Holy Spirit worked in Geoff’s heart to open it to the Lord.

His early Christian years were spent in business, higher education and global adventuring. Many years later, he answered God’s call to the ministry and began his studies at Westminster Seminary in California, not far from where he grew up. His travels to Latin America continued during this time as he was given the opportunity to use his Spanish and Portuguese skills to serve with the OPC mission work in Uruguay.

After graduation, Geoff took a year-long internship in Hatboro, PA. During that time he learned about Lake Sherwood and the following fall (2013) was called to be one of her pastors. He has loved teaching and preaching to the saints at LSOPC and being involved in the exciting changes in ministry here. It has been a tremendous blessing for him to teach in Colombia each spring as part of the OPC’s Mobile Mentoring Corps and to help train and encourage his brothers and sisters in that part of the world.

When not wrestling through exegesis or admiring the Spanish moss of Florida, Geoff likes learning new languages, new classical guitar repertoire, and pushing his body through new workouts. Mostly, though, he likes anything he gets to do with his beautiful wife Heather.
