Acts 2:14-36 - This Jesus God Raised

On that day of Pentecost in Acts 2, Peter delivered the first Spirit-filled sermon of the church age. And even though the Romans played a part in crucifying Jesus (as Peter says in v. 23), and even though the death of Jesus was part of the definite plan of God (as he also says in v. 23), a fulfillment of the numerous prophecies and statements in the Old Testament (at least three of which he quotes in his sermon), Peter spoke directly to the Jews in Jerusalem that day, to boldly declare to them that they had killed the Messiah they had been waiting for for millennia.

This sermon of Peter's, filled with theological intricacy and intertwined intertextuality, boils down to the central focus of Jesus Christ, crucified and raised for the forgiveness of sins. It's so simple a child can grasp it, and yet we can also spend all our lives plumbing the depths of that wonderful truth.
