Invitation to be Delivered

65 ( 51 | 14 )

The text of Exodus 12:21-30 captures the last plague on the Egyptian soil. The LORD has given Pharaoh a chance after another. We cannot blame the LORD for the final deadly plague. The death of the Egyptian's firstborn is the final blow. In this deadliest plague, we the LORD inviting the Israelites to participate in their deliverance while punishing the rebellious Egyptians.
In reality, what happens in this night of death will never happen again. The Israelites will not need to smear the blood of the lambs on their doors again. But the distinction that God makes between his people and those who refuse to trust and obey him will remain. The LORD will always respond to those who trust in the sacrifice he provides and those who reject it. This distinction determines the eternal judgment of all human beings.
That is the truth of the scripture from Genesis to Revelation. Jesus offers salvation on the same basis when he shed his blood for our sins on that cursed cross. The truth is eternal life depends on faith in the blood of the sacrifice that God provides. Sadly, like many in our day, the Egyptians refused to trust and obey the LORD. And because they refused, not one single family escaped. The Bible says, "there was not a house without someone dead" (Exod. 12:30).
