More Than Conquerors

11

In our previous text, the Holy Spirit comforted our souls with the promise that nothing in this physical world can separate us from the love of our Savior. In that promise we are not assured that trials will never come, but that even in the midst of those trial our salvation is as secure as the faithfulness of the Savior. Indeed, the assumption of the promise is that those trials will come, but that the same God of sovereign power who chose His people before creation will preserve to the end those who are His. These truths alone would be sufficient to prompt our praise and thanksgiving but, as our text today reveals, the blessing is even greater. In the conquering victory of our Savior, we share in that conquest! And that conquest is so complete that not merely the material powers are defeated, but even the powers of the unseen world are powerless to harm us. The doctrines of Sovereign Grace are not mere abstract theological doctrines. The revelation of these doctrines rightly prompts in us both a holy boldness as well as a sincere humility because of what our Savior has done for us. – Pastor Schlegel
