Our Daily Bread

With our Harvest Thanksgiving season upon us, it is appropriate to stop to think about our daily bread as we find it in Matthew 6:11. We can see that we are to pray we would have what is sufficient and necessary for each day. Even though our Heavenly Father knows what we need He wants us to ask him, after all, we are dependent upon Him for all things. Bread speaks to us of basic essentials, whether it be food for the body or that bread of life which is spiritual food for the soul. Consider also that the wider aspect of God's gracious provision, for we read of it being referred to by the Lord Jesus as 'our daily bread'. The needs of others should also form part of our petition we offer to the Lord.
