A Bold Beginning

Mark gives his account of the ministry of Jesus a title: "The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God." With this opening statement Mark is letting his readers know not only who he's writing about, but what he knows to be true of his subject. He makes the bold claim that Jesus is the Christ (Messiah), and the Son of God. In the first century A.D., such a claim would create anticipation.
