A Verse That Proves Works-Righteousness/Arminianism? Not So Fast
Series Book of Revelation
"Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life and may enter in through the gates into the city." (Rev. 22:14).
"You Calvinists, believers in sovereign grace, in election and predestination, that salvation is all of God and nothing of man, this verse proves you wrong. It could not be more clear: It says that those who do God's commandments will be saved."
Yes, the verse says that. And if the Bible says it, we must believe it.
What we don't have to believe, in this case should NOT believe, are our own assumptions about what words mean, especially words in the Bible. The Bible must be its own dictionary.
This sermon explains why this verse, rather than proving works-righteousness/Arminianism, actually proves the opposite.
