The church is growing so much that the church building is sinking into the water.
Yeah, exactly. So we bought more barrels. Welcome to Updates from the Field, produced by HeartCry Missionary Society. Hello, I'm here today with my good friend and co-laborer, and he's going to share with us about some of the things that God is doing in Cambodia.
Well, I wanted to share with you, with our audience, our donors, the help that we gave to the boat church in Cambodia to buy a boat. So it's not the first time that we've helped buy a boat. We helped a dear sister. Her boat had a hole in it. She's very faithful to go around and share the gospel with women and children all over this large lake. They call her kind of like the grandma evangelist.
Yeah, exactly. A dear, dear lady that travels hours and hours a day in a boat to give out tracts and communicate the gospel. That's beautiful. But her boat had a hole in it, so I think for $300 we helped buy her a new boat.
So this boat that we've purchased this time is a little different. All around the lake there are these houses that are kept afloat, villages that are kept afloat by barrels that are underneath the houses to keep them. They're flotation devices. You're talking about, it's about like a 55-gallon oil barrel. So there'll be drums, those barrels, all around the house.
So a church has been planned, and we've talked about it before, very encouraged by the church there. Initially, we helped buy more barrels because so many people were attending that the church began to sink. Now, do you get what he's saying here? When he brought it up in our meeting to decide on what to do here, it was really funny. It was just beautiful. It's like the church is growing so much that the church building is sinking into the water. Yeah, exactly. So we bought more barrels. Yeah, because people aren't sitting in pews, they're sitting down on the floor. That's how they sit around and worship. So as more people came, the church began to sink into the water. So we helped buy more barrels to keep the building afloat.
But in the center of the building, they had a boat there that they had placed to try and keep the center of the building from sinking down. So the barrels keep the outside afloat, but in the middle it was still wanting to sink down, especially because the boat that they had was, it had holes in it. And Pastor Ken, he was greatly burdened because every two hours he was having to go out and get the water out of the boat as it was going further and further down into the lake.
So we heard- So you had to postpone church service for a while to go and lift the church back up. Yeah. So we heard about the need and we helped him purchase a boat. And we've actually got video footage of him putting the boat in the center of the church building for flotation.
Good evening everyone in my family. My name is Phrom Kien. I am a teacher in America. This is the stove that we bought to cook. Now we are going to cut down the trees. These are the trees that we cut down. Now we're going to put this wood here. This wood. We're going to cover it with this wood. So that it doesn't break this piece of wood. This piece of wood. We're going to put this wood here. So that it doesn't break this piece of wood. So we're going to cover it with this wood. So that it doesn't break this piece of wood. So we're going to cover it with this wood. So that it doesn't break this piece of wood. So we're going to cover it with this wood. Now we're done with these two rows of trees. Now we just have to keep going like this. Put it in the bucket. This tank is a big tank. When it's big, we have to fill it with water so that the water can go in and out. If the tank is big, the water won't go in. We have to fill it with water. The tank is now filled with water.
We don't have a lot of space because we don't have a lot of space. We don't have a lot of space because we don't have a lot of space. We don't have a lot of space because we don't have a lot of space. We don't have a lot of space because we don't have a lot of space. We don't have a lot of space because we don't have a lot of space. We don't have a lot of space because we don't have a lot of space. We don't have a lot of space because we don't have a lot of space. We don't have a lot of space because we don't have a lot of space. We don't have a lot of space because we don't have a lot of space.
At the end, I would like to thank you for your support during the quarantine period, for using your support to buy tickets. I would also like to thank all of you, including myself, and everyone else.
And these aren't, this isn't just someone we heard about. We've been working with them for a while, haven't we? We have. And just tell us something about the work. Well, it's encouraging for several reasons. I've been so blessed by seeing how God has accelerated their growth. So these are first-generation Christians. None of them have a background of Christianity. But they came to faith. Pastor Keehan, who is a fisherman, there in the village on the lake. He lives on the lake. He was converted to Christ. We have a dear American missionary that's been discipling him, and his growth has just been phenomenal. I mean, there's nothing else that we can attribute it to other than the Holy Spirit's power in his life.
So the church has been planted. He preaches faithfully to them every week. One of the things that was encouraging, even though it was a sad situation, just to see how God had matured the body, they had a brother in the church that was living in sin. He would not repent. They kept working with him. He refused to obey God. So they had to discipline him. He was excommunicated. And I was just so thankful that here's this church that's a few years old, that's only been planted for two years, and they were willing to do something really, really hard to someone they really loved.
I find it amazing, like when I was in the mountains of Peru and different places, is that people, they look at Matthew 18 and there's no qualms about it because it's just, well, if we really love our brother, if we really love this person, we'll obey Jesus. And Jesus says, do this to bring them back. So we do it. There was no pragmatism. It was just, this is what Jesus said. And so this is what we must do. And the brother did come back. Yeah. He repented. He came back. He asked for forgiveness and the church received him. Amen.
So, you know, I mean, it's things that are happening there like that, that I'm just so blessed by. They're very evangelistic. They're going into our two other villages on the lake, sharing the gospel, because it's the only place where the gospel is being preached on the lake. They have people that come as far as two hours away. So we're talking about... A very big lake. Massive. So when I go there, it's a 30-minute boat ride to get to the church. Right. Yeah. And you can go for hours on the lake, village after village. Wow. That is absolutely amazing. I'll be looking forward to seeing... I've seen the pictures, but I look forward to our listeners being able to see what God is doing.
Was there anything else? Well, let me just share this, just for our listeners, because Pastor Keehan, he's just talking about just the burden that he had. He said, looking back this month was a test of faith regarding my trust in God and in His sovereignty. I was anxious at that time. I mean, anxious to the degree that it interrupted my sleep. Our floating church was losing our flotation and the boat under the church was leaking and would sink if I didn't bail it out every few hours.
But then he goes on to say how HeartCry helped replace the boat. He said, surprisingly, when we finally got it, the water was starting to go down. We are now in the process of installing some equipment like the blue barrels around the edge, you know, to help. But the church there in the middle has, you know, that they put in the middle is keeping it up now. He said, we declare, God, you are in control, and we are going to trust you.
So, you know, the contributions of the people that support Hard Cry greatly bless this church. So just thank God. Thank you. And, you know, I know that, you know, with social media, with the news, with everything, everyone is just so afraid. What is happening? What's going on? But we can see from this, I can tell you exactly what's going on. Jesus Christ is reigning from his throne in heaven. Jesus Christ is expanding his kingdom. Jesus Christ is building his church. Jesus Christ is in absolute control.
And another thing that's real important you see. Some of us in the body of Christ that have so much, so much knowledge, so many books, so many opportunities, so many conferences and all these things, and yet we seem powerless to do much. And that you see these believers all around the world, and we're privileged to see them, whether it's in South America or Asia or Africa, where maybe the gospel has just entered in. And yet they're excelling in obedience. They're excelling in just walking with God.
Well, I hope this has been an encouragement to you. I hope you enjoy the video and the pictures and that God will use this to show you. Don't worry, flock. He's on the throne. God bless.
