is chapter 17. The revelation
of Jesus Christ, chapter 17 in the book of Revelation. Judging
the great whore is our title. When the seventh trumpet has
sounded, the third and final woe judgment consisting of seven
global plagues and total devastation will be unleashed on the earth.
Not a single enemy of God will survive. Satan will be bound. The antichrist beast and the
false prophet will be cast into the eternal fires of hell. And all those who have chosen
to follow the way of Satan will be destroyed. Revelation chapters
10, 11, 14, and 15 announced the final judgment of the last
trumpet, proclaiming the end, the conquest, the harvest, and
the plagues of God's wrath on earth, respectively. Revelation
chapter 16 describes the seven plagues of God's wrath poured
out on the earth after the seventh trumpet has sounded. Revelation
chapters 17 and 18 reveal the identity of the great whore being
judged and her judgment. In describing the great whore,
Revelation 17 explains the meanings of the heads, the horns, and
the crowns of the beast. I should say, the heads, the
horns, the heads and the horns of the beast. Revelation chapter 17 verses
one and two say, And there came one of the seven angels, which
had the seven vials, and talked with me, saying unto me, Come
hither, and I will show unto thee the judgment of the great
whore, that sitteth upon many waters, with whom the kings of
the earth have committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth
have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication. When
the seventh vial, which is the last of the seven vials, is poured
out, the judgment of God will bring an end to the reign of
evil on earth. Satan's kingdom and of the antichrist
beast will come to a violent end. With the blowing of the
seventh trumpet and the outpouring of the seven vials, one day of
life on earth is all that's left for the repentant. The end of
the seven years of great tribulation initiates the judgment day of
God. The seven years of great tribulation,
which fulfilled Daniel's prophecy of the 70th week spoken of in
Daniel chapter 9, 24 through 27, begin with the blasting of
the first six trumpets on day one. 2,560 days later, The seventh trumpet will sound
on day 2,521, the 21st day, the day after the 1260 days of Satan's
reign of terror on earth, according to Revelation 12, verse six.
On that day, the seven vials of God's wrath will be poured
out. The kings of 10 nations will
gather at Megiddo, according to Revelation 16, verses 14 and
16. For one hour, they will agree
to work together and to give their powers to the Scarlet Beast
as their commander-in-chief, as recorded in Revelation 17,
verses 12 and 13. Together, they will attempt what no other has been able to
do, namely defeat and destroy King Jesus. Their delusion and
pride are unmatched, and their destruction will be quick and
absolute. The totality and absolute destruction
of the earth and the unrepentant due to the seven vials of God's
wrath requires that they be poured out and executed immediately
after the Antichrist's reign of 1260 days. The Great Whore represents the
sum of all the vices that tempt humanity to indulge their lusts. She's the personification of
all carnal temptations and pleasures that humanity seeks in lieu of
God. It's said that the kings of the
earth have committed fornication with her and the inhabitants
of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication. Fornication refers to the frenzy
of pursuing all the passions except for God. Rather, they
have chosen to be unfaithful to God, to reject Him, and to
despise Him. They've chosen to indulge in
fulfilling their will and reject God's will. They've completely
abandoned truth and godliness. They've forsaken their Creator
with utter contempt for Him. They're drunk with reckless indulgence
of the pleasures of this world. They've placed themselves under
the influence and control of ungodly vices and carnal passions. They possess no sobriety or moderation
in their pursuits. Hence, they are drunk with the
wine of their fornications. They are fully devoted and uncontrollably
sold out to fulfilling their carnal, ungodly lusts. Humanity is engaged in wanton
disregard for God as they revel in the carnal party on earth. They live for themselves and
for the pleasures they can acquire for themselves. They fill themselves
with wickedness and indulge in the carnal ungodly lusts. They're
not satisfied. They want to find fulfillment
in fulfilling, in following their carnal passions down whatever
path that may be. They feel only contempt for God
and anyone else who would dare to condemn, question, or look
down on their indulgences. But their attempts to find fulfillment
in carnal vices are futile. Their pursuit for fulfillment
in carnal vices is never satisfied. They're compelled, like addicts,
to find yet another fix. Such vain pursuits for contentment
in the perverse and shallow delights of the world lead to an empty
and discontented life. 2 Peter 2, verse 14, describes
those who walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness, saying,
having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin,
beguiling unstable souls, and heart they have exercised with
covetous practices, cursed children. 1 John 2, verse 17 says, And the
world passeth away, and the less thereof, but he that doeth the
will of God abideth forever. Those who choose to follow sin
instead of God will perish. Sadly, most will choose hell
rather than repent of their sins. After listing numerous sins,
Romans 1, verse 32 says of the wicked, who, knowing the judgment
of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death,
not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them. Like any other addict, they choose
the path of self-destruction rather than the path that leads
to health and eternal life. They choose the path of self-will
rather than God's will. John writes about the relationship
between the woman and the scarlet beast in Revelation 17, verse
3, saying, so he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness
and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet colored beast full of names of
blasphemy, having seven heads and 10 horns. The Scarlet Beast
in Revelation chapter 17 verse 3 is described in the same way
as the Red Dragon and the Antichrist Beast are described in Revelation
chapter 12 verse 3 and chapter 13 verse 1. And that is having
seven heads and ten horns. Revelation chapter 12 verse 9
identifies the red dragon with seven heads and 10 horns as that
old serpent called the devil and Satan, which deceiveth the
whole world. But the woman is said to be sitting
on a scarlet beast, not on the red dragon. The red color of
the beast and of the dragon suggests a strong association between
the two. The beast will do the bidding
of Satan. They work closely together and
are indistinguishable in their agendas. They share the same
goals and the same fate. Descriptions of Satan are manifested
in descriptions of the antichrist beast and vice versa. The woman
personifies the spiritual whoredom of humanity in the kingdom of
Satan. The woman represents everything
that lures humanity away from God. She sits on the Scarlet
Beast because he supports everything she represents, which is everything
anti-Christ. The names of blasphemy are the
names of all the false gods that Satan uses as substitutes to
draw people away from the true and living God in heaven. The
woman sitting on the scarlet beast is further described by
Revelation 17, verses 4 and 5, saying, And the woman up in her
hand, full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication,
and upon her forehead was a name written, Mystery, Babylon the
Great, the mother of harlots and abominations of the earth.
This woman is the great whore decked out in the finest clothing
and jewelry to symbolize the lust for wealth, materialism,
and the treasures of the earth. She wears the riches of the world
and is enriched by the world. She represents what humanity
cherishes and values most in life. The golden cup in the woman's
hand indicates that its contents are highly desired and greatly
valued by her and those who follow her. People pay tribute to her
to drink of the abominations and filthiness of her fornication.
The woman epitomizes foul carnality and spiritual wickedness. She
personifies carnal lusts and greedy pursuits for self-gratification. Her opulence and aggrandizement
represent the lust after which humanity pursues. The lust of
the eyes, the lust of the flesh, and the pride of life. The woman
is identified more specifically as Mystery, Babylon the Great,
the mother of harlots and abominations of the earth. She's named Mystery
because she represents the spiritual condition of humanity. She is
Babylon the Great because she represents the focus of carnal
accumulation and blasphemous activity. She's the mother of
harlots and abominations of the earth because she represents
all things humanity pursues with drunken, reckless abandon instead
of God. The woman is not a creature. She's a personification of men's
lusts and spiritual abominations. She represents the culture that
spiritually bankrupts people while promising pleasure and
well-being. She's a spiritual substitute
for God, a culture and philosophy that is anti-Christ. She's a
spiritual prostitute that offers herself as an alternative to
spiritual fidelity and truth that can be found only in Christ
and His followers. In Revelation chapter 17, verse
6, John wrote, And I saw the woman drunken with the blood
of the saints and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus. And
when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration. The woman sitting
on the scarlet beast not only epitomizes licentiousness and
indulgence of lust, but with these things comes the contempt
and hatred for the godly. Christ is not merely an ignored
and neglected, he's treated with violent rejection and disdain. Humanity chooses its way and
repudiates Christ's way. Christ and those who have chosen
to follow him are despised. They're hated. They're a source
of conviction, a presence that brings guilt and shame, and a
reminder of the condemnation that comes with sin. For those
who choose to follow the ways of the great whore, the saints
must be censored and eliminated. The presence of the godly spoils
the fun of their ungodly ways with guilt and shame. The presence
of the godly diminishes the joy intended for the carnal party.
The world hated Christ and killed him. Likewise, they hate his
followers and they kill them as well. They're not going to
tolerate that which condemns them and threatens to rob them
of their primary pursuits in life. their intent on getting
their abundance of fulfillment in carnality and wickedness,
and they will eliminate anything that threatens their pursuit
of carnal pleasure. Christ and His followers stand
in the way of humanity's pursuits in life. For humanity sold out
to sin, Anything that introduces guilt and shame or threatens
loss of carnal pleasure in life must be and will be eliminated. There can be no peaceful coexistence. Rather than confess their sins
and admit that their sins are the cause of their miseries,
those drunken with the wine of the great whore's filth target
Christ and His followers as scapegoats. Having chosen the way of sin,
they will never admit doing wrong. They resent being made to feel
guilty and shamed. So Christ and His followers are
hated. And seeking to eliminate their
sense of guilt and shame, they seek to eliminate Christ and
his followers. Those sold out to sin have shed
the blood of many righteous martyrs. Cain slew Abel due to being enraged
when his sacrifice was rejected, but Abel's was accepted. The
prophets throughout history have been killed for preaching God's
message. Jesus was crucified. Stephen was stoned for preaching
about Christ. The disciples and many other
Christians have been martyred for their allegiance to Christ.
Hebrews 11, verses 36 through 38 states, And others had trial
of cruel mockings and scourging, yea, moreover, of bonds and imprisonment. They were stoned, they were sawn
asunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword. They wandered
about in sheepskins and goatskins, being destitute, afflicted, tormented,
of whom the world was not worthy. They wandered in deserts and
in mountains and in dens and caves of the earth. In Matthew
chapter 23, verse 37, Jesus said, O Jerusalem, O Jerusalem, thou
that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto
thee. How often I would have gathered
thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens
under her wings, and ye would not. In Acts chapter seven, verse
40, in Acts chapter seven, verse 52, Stephen says, which of the
prophets have not your fathers persecuted? And they have slain
them which showed before of the coming of the just one, of whom
ye have been now the betrayers and murderers. In 1 Thessalonians
2.15, Paul says of the Jews, who both killed the Lord Jesus
and their own prophets and have persecuted us, and they please
not God and are contrary to all men. Romans 3, verse 15 says
of the lost, their feet are swift to shed blood. Proverbs 1, 16
says, for their feet run to evil and make haste to shed blood.
Isaiah 59, verse 7 states, their feet run to evil and they make
haste to shed innocent blood. Their thoughts are thoughts of
iniquity. Wasting and destruction are in
their paths. The mother of harlots and abominations
in the earth is drunk with the blood of the saints because of
her merciless killing of many, many believers. She is a culture
that seeks to destroy, without hesitation or restraint, everything
that is godly and associated with God. She will go to any
lengths to slaughter the righteous. This is the antichrist culture
of the wicked. The righteous are not merely
an inconvenience. They are considered by the wicked
to be a threat to good living, pleasure, and happiness. Therefore,
they seek to eliminate the godly in order to eliminate the shame
they feel in the presence of the godly. Rather than resolve
their feelings of guilt and shame with repentance and reconciliation
with God, they resort to killing those who remind them of their
shame. The mass shedding of blood of
those devoted to God and Christ is the reason the woman is described
to be drunk with the blood of the saints and with the blood
of the martyrs of Jesus. Drunkenness describes well the
wanton, irrepressible, out-of-control hate for and slaughter of God's
people. John says, he wondered at the
woman with great admiration. He was starstruck by her glamour,
her riches and accomplishments. This admiration for this insidious
personification of filth and power of the woman demonstrates
the power of the woman's lure on humanity. Despite her vile
passions and bloodthirsty viciousness, her charm and appearances are
attractive to the flesh. Revelation chapter 11, verses
17 through 13, explain the mystery of the beast and his identity
saying, and the angel said unto me, wherefore didst thou marvel? I will tell you, I will tell
thee the mystery of the woman and of the beast that carrieth
her, which hath the seven heads and 10 horns. The beast that
thou sawest was and is not and shall ascend out of the bottomless
pit and go into perdition. And they that dwell on the earth
shall wonder, whose names were not written in the book of life
from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast that
was and is not and yet is. And here's the mind which hath
wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains on which the woman
sitteth, and there are seven kings. Five are fallen, and one
is, and the other is not yet come. And when he cometh, he
must continue a short space. And the beast that was and is
not, even he is the eighth, and is of the seven, and goeth into
perdition, perdition. And the 10 horns which thou sawest
are 10 kings, which have received no kingdom as yet, but received
power as kings one hour with the beast. These have one mind
and shall give their power and strength unto the beast. Revelation
chapter seven, verse three and seven, describe the scarlet beast
as having seven heads and 10 horns. Though Satan is also described
in Revelation 12 as being the red dragon, having seven heads
and ten horns, Revelation 17 verse 12 says the ten horns are
ten kings who will receive power as kings one hour with the beast. Receiving power with the beast
indicates the scarlet beast, as well as the 10 kings, will
receive power from Satan. Revelation 13, verse 2 supports
this understanding, saying, The dragon gave the beast his power
and his seed and great authority. The scarlet beast cannot be Satan. He is the antichrist beast who
is empowered. by Satan. The strong resemblance
in color and the number of heads and horns indicates the shared
agendas of Satan and the Antichrist beast, especially since the Scarlet
Beast is given power, the seat, and authority to do the bidding
of Satan. Revelation chapter 17 verses
8 and 11 further identify the scarlet beast as one who was
and is not and yet is. In addition, he rises out of
the bottomless pit, but will end up in perdition. Satan rules
his kingdom through the kingdoms of men as he will do through
the antichrist beast to whom he gives power according to Revelation
13, five and seven. He influenced the kingdoms of
men in the past as he does today as the God of this world. And he'll lead the world into
battle personally against Christ at Armageddon. Just as the beast
and Satan share the same agenda, goals, and fate, they share the
description of was, is not, and yet is. Satan. had status in heaven. He was
highly admired and held great status in the kingdom of God. But now he's nothing but the
enemy of Christ. He lost his status in heaven
in his standing with God. He was, but now is not an angel
of esteem. Nonetheless, he is still powerful
and influential in the world. By this means, Satan was, is
not, and yet is. This is also true of the Scarlet
Beast. All creatures began in heaven
as created beings. The Scarlet Beast made a choice,
as did Satan and a third of the angels, to rebel against God. For this reason, many ended up
in the bottomless pit. And it's from the bottomless
pit the scarlet beast will arise. Revelation chapter 17 verse 9
says, that for those with minds having wisdom, the seven heads
of the serpent represent seven mountains and seven kings. These
refer to seven kingdoms and their founding kings. Revelation 17
verse 10 explains that five of the kingdoms have fallen. The
sixth kingdom is currently in power, and the seventh kingdom
will follow for a brief period of time. The short space of time
refers to the three and a half years designated for the Scarlet
Beast to rule the earth without restraint. The coming and going
of the kings and kingdoms associated with the Scarlet Beast indicates
that he and Satan are intergenerational. In other words, they've been
ruling over the kingdoms on earth throughout human history, through
generations of humanity. 2 Thessalonians 2, verses 7-10. Describe how the Antichrist beast
is aligned with Satan and currently influencing the kingdoms of the
world, but under restraint. It says, for the mystery of iniquity
doth already work. Only he who now letteth will
let, until he be taken out of the way. And then shall that
wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit
of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming.
Even him whose coming is after the working of Satan, with all
power and signs and lying wonders, and with all deceivableness of
unrighteousness in them that perish, because they receive
not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. Revelation
17 verse 11 explains that the Scarlet Beast will be the eighth
king. He's said to be of the seven
kings because he's been and is the guiding spirit of the seven
kingdoms. He's been doing the bidding of
Satan, the god of this world who empowers and sets the agenda
for the Antichrist beast. The Antichrist Beast will not
be dethroned. He will continue to fulfill his
role as the world leader, but the Scarlet Beast will be revealed
for who he really is as a spiritual entity and assume personal command
of the world's armies at Armageddon. Revelation chapter 13 verse 4
says, the world's population worship Satan as well as the
Antichrist beast. Allegiance to one is allegiance
to the other. And so the Scarlet Beast rising
as the eighth king is not about deposing the seventh. Instead,
it's about him assuming personal command of Satan's authorization.
personal command with Satan's authorization and power to conduct
the world's battle against Christ. The sixth kingdom is currently
in power. When the antichrist beast rises
to power as the seventh king, he will change everything on
earth for three and a half years, empowered by and directed by
Satan. Immediately after the last day
of the seven years of tribulation, the Scarlet Beast will rise as
the eighth king to personally take charge of the armies, rather
than rule through others to lead the world to battle against Christ. Revelation 17, verses 12 and
13 explain that the ten horns on the Scarlet Beast are ten
kings who will rule for one hour with the beast. the Scarlet Beast. This indicates they'll not receive
their kingdoms until the last hour leading up to the Battle
of Armageddon. Further, this shows that the
Scarlet Beast and Satan will be organizing the armies of the
world into ten groups to fight Jesus. The ten kings will be
united in their goal with the Antichrist Beast and Satan to
fight Jesus. Revelation chapter 17 verses
16 and 17 reveal an unexpected twist in the events of the last
day of evil on earth, saying, And the ten horns which thou
sawest upon the beast, these shall hate the whore, and shall
make her desolate and naked. and shall eat of her flesh and
burn her with fire. For God hath put in their hearts
to fulfill his will and to agree and give their kingdom unto the
beast until the words of God shall be fulfilled. God will
turn the hearts of the 10 kings against the great city of Babylon
and they will destroy it. This is reminiscent of the story
told in 2 Chronicles 20, verses 20 through 24, when the Lord
confused the children of Ammon, Moab, and those of Mount Seir
to turn against each other rather than to fight against Israel.
In other words, evil turns against evil and devours itself. At the same time, Revelation
chapter 17 verse 14 says of the 10 kings and their armies, these
shall make war with the lamb and the lamb shall overcome them
for he is Lord of lords and king of kings and they that are with
him are called and chosen and faithful. The armies The armies of the Scarlet Beast
and of Satan will face off with the army of Christ. The army
of Antichrist, that is the Scarlet Beast and Satan, are those who
follow the way of self-righteousness, self-sufficiency, and self-will. The army of Christ, in contrast,
follows the way of reliance and trust in their Savior. The army
of Antichrist trusts in themselves. The army of Christ trusts in
God. One is filled with passion for
self and self-will. The other is filled with love
for their creator and for his will to be done. One fights for
themselves. The other lets the Lord of Lords
and the King of Kings fight for them. Revelation chapter 17 verse
15 clarifies that the waters which thou sawest where the whore
sitteth are peoples and multitudes and nations and tongues. Just
as the description of the woman sitting on the Scarlet Beast
in Revelation 17.3 indicates how the Scarlet Beast props up
the culture of wickedness and abominations, Revelation 17.15
similarly indicates that the population of humanity is supportive
of and embraces the culture of wickedness. These are the people
who make up the armies of the world, who are ready to fight
Christ for their preferred culture, both on earth and in creation. The banner, the king, the God
they want to raise over them and give allegiance to, is the
scarlet beast and the red dragon, that old serpent, the devil,
Satan. Revelation chapter 17 verse 18
explains that the woman who personifies the culture of wickedness is
also identified as that great city which rules over all the
kings of the earth, namely Babylon. Revelation 17, 18 says, and the
woman which thou sawest is that great city which reigneth over
the kings of the earth. Revelation 18.2 describes Babylon
as the habitation of every foul spirit and of unclean and hateful
bird. In other words, Babylon is home
to Satan and the Scarlet Beast and is the point for gathering
everything evil on earth. Satan is the god of this world
and the ruler over all kings and kingdoms on earth. His throne
is the fountainhead of all wickedness. The Scarlet Beast, being aligned
with Satan throughout the generations of men, supports the great whore
sitting on him. He supports and is the promoter
of everything that is anti-Christ. As the ruler of this world, he
decrees the cultural directives and agendas for the kingdoms
on earth as dictated by Satan, who is the designer of the culture
that traps people in deceptions and lies. Satan promotes every
vice and tactic to lure men away from God and to keep them away
from God. He knows how to produce cultures
to manipulate humanity by their lusts and vulnerabilities. He
offers the carnal pleasures of the world to preoccupy their
time and attention so that they have no time or desire to give
attention to God and to their spiritual needs. Ephesians chapter
6 verse 12 reminds us, For we wrestle not against flesh and
blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers
of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness
in high places. The message in Revelation chapter
17 serves as a warning about the pervasive influence of wickedness
in today's culture. The world culture is designed
to turn people from Christ, The city of Babylon, where Satan's
throne will be set up with the Scarlet Beast, will be the fountain
of cultural corruption and rebellion against God. It will be the esteemed
role model and influence that shapes the moral and spiritual
landscape of the world. Though the city of Babylon will
be the center of foul spirits and wickedness in the last seven
years of tribulation, Satan, the God of this world, has already
designed cultures to deceive humanity and to lure them away
from Christ. Ephesians 6, verse 12, underscores
the reality that our struggles are not merely human-induced. Our struggles are against the
dark powers that seek to undermine our relationship with God. We must remain vigilant, discerning
the tactics of the enemy and striving to live in alignment
with God's truths as we live immersed in a culture that celebrates
the very things that lead us away from Him. Revelation 17
is a call to awareness and action to understand our times and to
counter the seductive allure of Babylon's treasures. This
is the world we live in, and this is how to understand our
times. Daniel, don't turn it off. I'm
going to cover a couple other things I want to add. Chapters 10, 11, 14, and 15,
this is an addendum to lesson 14, chapter 14. Chapters 10, 11, 14, and 15 announce
the last seven trumpet judgments as the end, the conquest, the
harvest, and the plagues, respectively. Chapter 16 reveals the details
of the last seven judgments that are poured out on the earth.
Whereas trumpets one through five will have only one judgment
associated with them, trumpet six will have three judgments,
and trumpet seven will have seven judgments. And whereas trumpets
one through six will sound on day one of the tribulation years,
trumpet seven is the last trumpet sounding immediately after the
seven years. Here's the addendum to lesson
15. Revelation chapter 14 then continues
the announcement of the seventh trumpet judgment as the final
harvest on earth. Revelation 15 declares there
are seven angels with seven plagues of God to pour out onto the earth
in the seventh trumpet judgment. This gives us four announcements
associated with the seventh trumpet judgment. In Revelation chapter
10, it's announced that time is no longer and that the mystery
of God is finished. In Revelation 11, it's announced
that the kingdoms of the earth will become the kingdoms of our
Lord, which he will rule forever. Revelation 12 and 13 describe
the kingdoms that will be conquered. Revelation 14 announces the harvesting
of souls associated with the Last Trumpet. And Revelation
15 announces the preparation of the seven angels with the
seven plagues of God that will be released on the earth. The
Last Trumpet announces the end, the conquest, the harvest, and
the plagues of God. The judgments of God and the
message of God in the book of Revelation are easily understood
when read chronologically. There's no need to confuse the
descriptions, the events, or judgments by attempting to overlap
events and chapters based on patterns. The story told in the
book of Revelation is simple, straightforward, and easy to
understand. Revelation chapter 16 addendum,
last one. The seventh trumpet initiates
the final judgment of complete and total devastation. It's been
announced four times in Revelation chapter 10, 11, 14, and 15 as
the end, the conquest, the harvest, and the plagues. There will be
seven judgments poured out on the earth in one day. This is
the third judgment of woe and is the most devastating judgment
of the seven trumpet judgments. It will be the day of judgment
when God's wrath is poured out in vengeance against all evil.
This will be the day of the Lord when all kingdoms and evil are
judged without exception. Thank you, Daniel.
