Amen. Thanks for listening in
today. Please go to oldpath.org. That is our new website, oldpath,
P-A-T-H.org. And check out the things we have
going on, the things we'll be posting. And we invite you to
consider praying to the Lord about coming and relocating to
the Ozarks. It's a good time. perilous times
in the cities, it's a good time to get in a rural area and to
build and work for the Lord is coming and we wanna be found
ready. So if you're interested in coming
and being part of this church, part of this work, please contact
me and let's talk about it. Otherwise, we appreciate you
listening in and staying in tune with our website there and helping
in whatever way you can. Dear Father, we do pray for this
very important message. We pray that Satan will not hinder
it. We pray, Lord, that your people
will be obedient, all of us, Lord, and that we'll understand
These reasons why so many of us are not, Lord, when the devil
tempts us and we listen to his lies. And I want to expose one
of these heresies, these errors today. And I do pray you'll help
me preach and help people understand. I want to preach in love, but
I also want to show the danger of this teaching. In Jesus name. Amen. Title of the message is,
All Four Gospels are for Christians Today, including the Sermon on
the Mount. This is the fourth message in
the series of why are many Christians disobedient? One reason is because
they do not believe that certain books of the Bible apply to them
today. And we're not talking about just
certain ceremonial things in the Old Testament. We're talking
about New Testament. New Testament commands, New Testament
promises, New Testament warnings. We have much of fundamental Christianity,
conservative Christianity saying these are not for us today. Well, My text is in Luke 16,
verse 16. The law and the prophets were
until John. I don't know how clear it could
be said by our Lord Jesus. Why would anybody think that
the four Gospels, I mean Matthew, Mark, and Luke, and John, are
not doctrinally applicable to believers in this age today. The Lord Jesus said the law and
the prophets were until John. So I don't care what fundamentalist,
what Bible teacher, what popular pastor, what scholar, it does
not matter. The Lord Jesus Christ said, the
law and the prophets were until John. So why are so many Christians
disobedient today? Well, the first part of this
series, I pointed out their ignorance of Bible words. They're ignorant
of Bible words. If you don't know what the words
mean, if you've never read the Bible, if you don't listen to
preaching of the Bible, and you don't know what the meanings
of the words Refer to, if you don't know what the words refer
to, then how will you know? Look at the sins of Galatians
chapter five. We went over them and see how many of these things
you understand when it says, you shall not inherit the kingdom
of God. What are those things? What are these sins? Number two,
We pointed out in the next message of this series, following feelings
blindly brings sins. This is why the charismatics
are having so much trouble with immorality and fornication and
adultery. But anybody is able to fall into
these things when we don't follow the word of God, but we follow
feelings. Last week, we talked about the
fall of Christians through pride. If you are taught to be proud,
taught to esteem yourself above others and God, then no wonder
there's not much love for God. There's not much gratitude, thanksgiving
to God. Christians are being spoiled
by psychology. But today's point that I'm going
to make is another reason that many Christians are disobedient
is because they do not believe the title of my sermon. All four Gospels are for Christians
today, including the Sermon on the Mount. There is this movement that has
taken over fundamental Christianity to a high degree. We need to look into who funded
it. We need to look into some of
these secret organizations, but really it has to do with the
heart of man, including Christians. And it relates to last week's
message about pride. They don't believe they are accountable
to God. Many modern Christians do not
believe they can be punished. And just as Jeremiah tried to
bring warnings to the people in Jeremiah 7, the people of
Israel said, but wait, we have the temple of God. You don't
understand our privileges. So I preached the hyper D delusion,
hyper dispensational poison not long ago. Not long ago, I preached
Scofield notes and hyper D, a hindrance to answered prayer. Hyper-dispensationalism. People that call themselves dispensationalists,
but are hyper-extreme dispensationalists. Now, they will not see themselves
as hyper-dispensationalists. Nevertheless, when you tell people that they
don't have to listen to the book of Hebrews, they do not have
to obey the Sermon on the Mount, that they don't have to obey
the warnings of Jesus or fear the warnings of Jesus in His
parables, because that all applies to Jews in the tribulation period.
You are loony tuned, man. And you're not following the
Holy Spirit. What effect will this have upon
modern Christianity and Christians? Number one, it removes the commandments. It removes promises and it removes
warnings. So let's answer this popular
confusion. Luke 16 says, and the prophets were until John. Which means that from John the
Baptist on, we are not dealing with the Old Testament. Isn't
that something? You open up a King James Bible
and it says the New Testament as a heading. The law and the prophets were
until John. Matthew 11 verse 13 says, for all the prophets
and the law prophesied until John. There it is. So Galatians 3 verse 19 says,
wherefore serveth the law? This thing that our Lord Jesus
said was until John the Baptist. Wherefore then serveth the law.
It was added, says Paul, because of transgressions till, notice
that word, till the seed should come to whom the promise was
made. Who is that seed? That is the
Lord Jesus Christ. So now we know that the law was
until John, who ushered in Jesus Christ. But when did it specifically
stop? We know it had to stop at Jesus,
but when? At the Lord's birth? Or the start
of His public ministry? His resurrection? His ascension? When did it specifically stop? Some believe the age of grace,
this age of grace, meaning the time when the law stopped. And
let me qualify. Nobody was ever saved by keeping
the law. Paul makes that clear in Romans
3. No dispensation was anybody ever saved by keeping the law. So when did the gospel age of
grace begin? Some believe at the cross. Some
believe at Pentecost. Others say at Acts chapter seven.
Others say some other place in the book of Acts. Others say
after Acts 28. But notice, Paul tells us in
Galatians chapter four, Even so we, verse three, when we were
children were in bondage to the elements under the elements of the world.
But when the fullness of the time was calm, God sent forth
his son made of a woman made under the law. All right. So it was not at the birth of
the Lord Jesus Christ that the law stopped, because the Lord
Jesus was under the law. That's why the Lord did not say
the law and the prophets were before John, or ended right before John the
Baptist. In other words, the law and the
prophets were until John, not at the birth of our Lord. It
says that Jesus was under the law. He lived a perfect life
for us. He's the only one that kept all
the commandments of the law perfectly, absolutely perfect. So what happened at the ministry
of John the Baptist? Well, if you'll remember in the
Old Testament, it said in Numbers chapter four,
A priest had to be 30 years old before he took up the mature
senior office of a priest. 30 years old. Numbers 4.3, from
30 years old and upward, even until 50 years old, all that
enter into the host to do the work in the tabernacle of the
congregation. Well, that's interesting. How
old was the Lord Jesus when John the Baptist began his ministry
and baptized him? Well, let's see. Luke 3 says,
Now when all the people were baptized, it came to pass that
Jesus also, being baptized and praying, the heaven was opened,
and Jesus Himself began to be about thirty years of age. Now why is this important? Because
Jesus began His mature ministry as
the priest that he was at 30 years old. And Psalms 10 talks about what
kind of priest our Lord Jesus was. And it was not Levitical.
If it was not Levitical, then the law had ended. Notice Psalms 110. The Lord said unto my Lord, sit
thou at my right hand until I make thy enemies thy footstool. Sit at my right hand? The Lord
said unto my Lord? Capital L? The Lord Jesus raised this verse. before the scribes. And he said, why does David say
the Lord said unto my Lord? Why does he call them both Lord?
The Lord Jesus is pointing out that he is the son of God. He
is the capital L Lord. There are three that bear record
in heaven. This is the Godhead. But notice
in Psalms 110, the Lord said unto my Lord, so he's talking,
this is the father talking to the son. Verse four, the Lord
has sworn and will not repent, thou art a priest forever after
the order of Melchizedek. Hebrews five says he's not after
the order of the Levitical priests. It says in Hebrews 5.10, called
of God a high priest after the order of Melchizedek. And you
say, well, what does all of this mean? It means this. It means
our Lord Jesus began his mature function of his priestly ministry at 30 years old. And it tells us in Hebrews chapter
7 what's got to happen. In Hebrews 7.12, for the priesthood
being changed, Jesus was not a Levitical priest. He was after
the order of Melchizedek. For the priesthood being changed,
there is made of necessity a change also of the law. So, the New Testament, is not Moses. The New Testament is not the
Mosaic Law. The New Testament, beginning
with the ministry, the public ministry of Jesus, is after the order of a new priesthood. The law has been changed. That does not mean that the abiding
moral principles that are the same all throughout the ages
have been changed. But there are many things that
have been changed. He goes on to tell us, The priesthood
being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of
the law, for there is verily a disannulling of the commandment
going before, for the weakness and unprofitableness thereof.
The whole Mosaic law is called the commandment going before. There have been changes made.
Now go back and look at it again. Luke chapter 16, the law and
the prophets were until John. Because at the preaching of John,
our Lord was baptized and began his public ministry at 30 years
old. John Wesley put it this way. The law and the prophets were
in force until John. From that time, the gospel takes
place. Meaning the clear preaching of the gospel. It was taught all throughout
the Old Testament, in type, in prophecy, through faith in the
coming Savior. But we have an age where the
Mosaic Law is changed and we are up under a new priesthood. People say, well, John Wesley
wasn't a dispensationalist. Well, I'm not embracing everything
that John Wesley taught. But he brought revival. The Lord
used him to bring revival. to bring people back to responsibility. And he was a premillennialist.
And he was looking for the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ. Likewise,
an old writer, Matthew Poole, says, for the law and the prophets,
the preaching of them, that is, held but till John, since whose
time the gospel had been preached. Now, many Puritans, many of these,
even Presbyterians and early Baptists were pre-millennialists. They were literalists as far
as that goes. But there is a dispensationalism
today that has gone so far that they've fallen off the other
side of the boat. It's time to get back to some
basic common sense, biblical Christianity. Look at Hebrews chapter one,
listen to it. God, who at sundry times in divers
manners spake in time past, that's the law and the prophets, unto
the fathers by the prophets. hath in these last days spoken
unto us by His Son." What on earth could cause people to actually think that the public
ministry of our Lord Jesus Christ, where He began to speak for God the Father. Why would anybody think that
you are to ignore those words? Now, I understand some of the
objections people make, but none of them hold water. Notice the word last days. See,
I believe this The timetable is set up on a six-day timetable. Day being a thousand years according
to Peter. And the seventh millennium would
be the Sabbath rest. The millennial kingdom of God.
Revelation 20, they reigned with Him a thousand years. That's
to come. Well, if four days had passed
when John the Baptist began to preach, then you were in the last days,
meaning the last period. And it's a smaller period than
before. And the Lord can come at any
time within that period. But almost all of our forefathers
in the 1600s and 1500s, it was said that anybody that understands
the Bible All of the teachers that understand the Bible tell
us that Jesus is gonna come somewhere around the year 2000. They understood what the early
church fathers and what the Bible and what Paul and Hebrews 4,
they understood this six day timetable. And they all said,
but the Lord can come early, so we better watch. You better
expect him before the year 2000 or somewhere around in that time
period. Watchman II don't agree with
every little thing that Watchman II taught, but he had some sanity
that is missing today. People can mock him all they
want. He died as a martyr for the Lord Jesus Christ under the
communist government. And he taught those martyrs just
like the early church fathers so-called. in the first 300 years
of Christianity, during the time of the martyrs, taught them that
the kingdom of God to come, the millennial kingdom, was a prize
to be won through suffering and obeying. But salvation in eternity is
by grace through faith alone. And many took what's been these
message and endured Martyrdom. Hoping for the prize that Paul
hoped for in Philippians 3. Fearing God. Because, see, Watchman
E was simply just preaching the premillennial, futurist, literal
interpretation of the 19th century. Men like Pember and H.W. Fry
and Poynter and so many others, go vet. So Watchman E tells us,
John the Baptist commences his work. Does the beginning of his
work here in this verse mark the beginning of the gospel age?
When does the dispensation of the gospel begin? In order to
know its commencement, we need first to determine when the dispensation
of law comes to an end. If, in fact, the gospel age begins
with the work of John, then what he preaches has much to do with
us. See, this is why the devil's
gone to work. And Watchman Nee is going to
quote, of course, our text today. He's going to quote the Law and
the Prophets were until John, showing that what John preached
applies to us. What the Lord Jesus preached
directly after John applies to us. If it doesn't apply to us,
then that means it's just like the Old Testament. There's applications
we made. There's moral teachings that
we are to listen to. But what people do is they begin
to not listen to the warnings, they begin to not apply it, and
they love to say, oh, people just don't understand dispensational
truth. And so they look at Matthew,
Mark, Luke, and even the book of John sometimes, if you can
believe that. But at least they're consistent
in their insanity. Watchman goes on to say, now
some people maintain that the dispensation of law ends at the cross. If
so, the gospel age commences after the cross. But of course,
Watchman E shows that this is wrong. He says what he, John
the Baptist, preaches is grace and not law. Watchman E rightly sees the Sermon
on the Mount as addressed to Christians, believers in this
age. Now let's go on to the book of
Acts. Notice Acts chapter 10, the word which God sent unto
the children of Israel, verse 36, preaching peace by Jesus
Christ. He is Lord of all. It was not Mosaic law. It was
not Levitical priesthood. It was peace. preaching peace. Or as it says in Mark 1, the
beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. Well,
there you go. The beginning of the gospel of
Jesus Christ, the Son of God. Not the continuation of the Mosaic
law. Our Lord Jesus says in John chapter
4, But the hour cometh, and now is..." Notice those words, "...and
now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit
and in truth. For the Father seeketh such to
worship Him." And even clearer, look back in John chapter 1,
verse 17. Now listen, "...for the law was
given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ."
Whatever Jesus brought was in contrast to the Mosaic law. And the Lord says, even in John
four, the hour cometh and now is when the true worshipers shall
worship the father in spirit. And in truth, the law was given
by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. The law
was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. And He preached salvation through
faith alone to that Samaritan woman. And she believed at that
moment. That's New Testament evangelism.
Our Lord Jesus preached the grace of God. The New Testament gospel. John 3.16, For God so loved the
world, says our Lord Jesus to Nicodemus, that He gave His only
begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish,
but have everlasting life. Not keep the commandments that
Paul says nobody can do perfectly, which is why you're saved by
grace, which is why you're justified through the blood of Jesus. John the Baptist preached the
same thing. John 1, verse 29, The next day
John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb
of God, which taketh away the sin of the world. And in chapter
3, verse 36, John preaches, He that believeth on the Son hath
everlasting life. This is John the Baptist talking.
And he that believeth not the Son shall not see life, but the
wrath of God abideth on him. Now there is a confusion. People say, no, wait a minute.
John came preaching, John the Baptist came preaching that the
kingdom was at hand. So they really thought that the
millennial kingdom or the earthly millennial kingdom was going
to be set up and the Roman government vanquished. However, What we find out is that this
phrase at hand, through the Holy Ghost, is consistent with every
single thing the Holy Ghost says throughout the whole New Testament,
ending with the book of Revelation. Here's what I mean. Look at Mark
chapter 1, verse 14. Now after that John was put in
prison, though John taught the same thing, Jesus came into Galilee
preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God and saying, the time is
fulfilled and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent ye and
believe the gospel. I don't know what could be more
basic. The Old Testament has been fulfilled.
The 4,000 years of the Old Testament age has been fulfilled. The Mosaic
Law has been fulfilled, which means you only have this
brief period called the last days from the preaching of John and
Jesus until now, which is going to be somewhere
around 2,000 years. So when he says the time is fulfilled
and the kingdom of God is at hand, you can say, well, Jesus
was the king and he was at hand in that sense. But the kingdom of God being
at hand, the same phraseology is used throughout the whole
New Testament. At hand means it's shorter than
the whole Old Testament period. and say, I think Jesus was setting
up some type of kingdom there, or maybe they really expected
the millennial kingdom was about to be set up. Really? What about Romans 13? Paul says,
the night is far spent, the day is at hand. It meant we're in the last days
from the time of the preaching of Jesus, we're in the last days.
Now we're in the last of the last days. Not only that, Revelation 1, blessed is he,
that's the book of Revelation, the last book of the Bible. Blessed
is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy,
and keep those things which are written therein, for the time
is at hand. Time for what? The millennial
kingdom. The second coming of the Lord to establish the millennial
kingdom. Revelation 19, Revelation 20. You say, well, John the Baptist
and the Lord Jesus said the kingdom was at hand. Really? So did Paul
after the ascension of our Lord. So did John, the last book of
the Bible written on the Isle of Patmos. Our Lord Jesus Christ is still
preaching what he preached back then. The kingdom of God is at
hand. Revelation 22. And He saith unto
me, Still not the same of the prophecy of this book. For the
time is at hand." Time of what? We're getting close to the second
coming of the Lord Jesus Christ to establish His thousand-year
kingdom upon this world. Upon this earth, that is. Paul tells us in Philippians
4, again, Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord
is at hand. The time is at hand. The Lord
is at hand. The kingdom is at hand. It's
been at hand since the days of John the Baptist. Soon it will
be nigh at hand. We've been in the last days since
the days of John the Baptist and the new dawn of a new era,
the age of grace and true. As Peter says, Chapter four,
but the end of all things is at hand. Be therefore sober and
watch unto prayer. It's been at hand since the preaching
of John the Baptist. It's been at hand since the public
ministry of the Lord Jesus Christ. Of course, the kingdom was at
hand at the preaching of John because the 4,000 years of the
Old Testament age had ended. The law of Moses had ended. And
it's not the birth of the Lord Jesus Christ where it ended,
it's the preaching of John and the preaching of the Lord Jesus
Christ. This error has caused the preposterous idea
that the Sermon on the Mount is not to Christians today. It's
the Lord giving the constitution of the millennial kingdom. He's
telling you what it's going to be like in the millennial kingdom,
and this is the law you must follow if you're in the coming
kingdom. Because they thought the kingdom of God was about
to be set up. Well, the Holy Spirit knew what
words to give John. And there is no way that the
Sermon on the Mount is giving the constitution of the coming
millennial kingdom. It's giving you what you need
to do right here today to be a part of that coming millennial
kingdom. And when you read the Sermon
on the Mount, It speaks of persecution. Will there be persecution in
the coming millennial kingdom when the Lord is reigning with
a rod of iron? Will there be these false prophets
and dogs and swine? Will there be mourning? Will
there be fasting? The Lord talks about all these
things. The Lord is telling people in
the first century Christians, believers on the Lord Jesus,
how to live. so they can be part of this coming
millennial kingdom of reward. The people he's speaking to are
already disciples. They're already salt to the earth.
They're already children of their father. They've already believed
upon the Lord Jesus Christ as the Messiah for everlasting life. The millennial kingdom that is at hand is set before
them as something they are to seek. Strive to enter. Now let's look at Matthew 28.
I don't know what could be clearer. Jesus has shed his blood. He's resurrected. He's about
to ascend into heaven. And he tells his disciples some
very important words, his church. And Jesus came, verse 18, and
spake unto them saying, all powers given unto me in heaven and in
earth, go you therefore and teach all nations. We have a modification
here. He had not yet called them to
go to all the nations, baptizing them in the name of
the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost. But look at
verse 20. teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have
commanded you. And lo, I am with you always,
even to the end of the world. Amen. Which means that the Great
Commission, New Testament evangelism, what churches should be doing,
what all of us should be doing, is going to people, giving them
the gospel so they might be saved, and then teaching them what the
Lord taught in Matthew. Chapter five, teaching them what
the Lord had already taught the disciples. But what are they
doing today? There's many people going out,
soul winning, evangelizing, and then they bring people to salvation. Some of them, some of them have
a clear gospel. They bring people to salvation,
understanding of their lost condition and the grace of the Lord Jesus
through faith. They get saved. And then instead of teaching
them to observe all things whatsoever I've commanded you, they say,
now, now, now, hold off, bud. Don't worry about the book of
Matthew. There's some nice little snippets in there, some little
applications you can make, but don't worry about Matthew, Mark,
and Luke. Those are for Israel. Those are for the Jews in the
tribulation period. Don't worry about these things.
And, oh, by the way, don't worry about Hebrews either. Oh, and,
Even the last book of the Bible, those words to the seven churches,
don't worry about those either. Is the devil talking in such a presentation? I believe he is. When new ages begin, there's
a transition period. Modifications and amendments
brought to clarity do not negate all that has come before. In other words, if you get over
here to Matthew 28, and we have an amendment. The amendment is,
now teach all nations. the gospel and all things that
I have already taught you. We have an amendment. Now, here's how people read it.
They say, well, we have an amendment right here, and we are now to
go to all nations. So therefore, I can ignore whatever
the Lord says in the Sermon on the Mount, because I see now
I got to start from this amendment and move forward. It doesn't work that way. When
our constitution was amended, you don't say, oh, well, it's
been amended. We don't got to listen to any of its principles
or precepts that went before the amendment. All of it's been
rendered null and void. That's ridiculous. Even the books of the Bible that
these hyper dispensations believe are for us today, such as Timothy. They speak of prophecies. They
speak of the gift of prophecy still at least being in the churches
to some degree. They say that you're not to take
a widow in under church support unless she has washed the saints
feet. Everybody makes some degree of
cultural accommodations, which of course can be taken too far. But the point here is this, biblical modifications and amendments
do not negate what has gone on before. So if you say, well, in the Sermon
on the Mount, He said to leave your gift at
the altar. See, they had an altar there. So you're not able to read everything
there and make a doctrinal application to yourself. In other words, you cannot read
the commandments and warnings of the Lord Jesus Christ and
his promises. People like the promises of the gospels. They
don't want the warnings though. They give the warnings to Israel. They don't want to apply the
warnings to themselves. They boast against the branches. See, you can't go through the gospels
and say, okay, now right now they went only to the lost sheep
of the house of Israel, but I still need to obey everything
else that has not been modified. This is common sense. Come let
us reason together, saith the Lord. Paul says that we might
be saved from unreasonable men, because all men have not faith. So we get our Lord in Matthew
28, in the Great Commission, so-called, telling the disciples
to teach all nations, get them baptized, teach them to observe
all things whatsoever I've commanded you, and lo, I'm with you even
unto the end of the world. This thing is still in effect
as written. Our Lord says in John chapter
14, but the comforter, verse 26, which is the Holy Ghost whom
the father will send in my name. He shall teach you all things
and bring all things to your remembrance whatsoever I have
said unto you. Oh, how about that? He says to
the disciples of Matthew 28, teaching them to observe all
things whatsoever I've commanded you. And now he says the Holy
Ghost, when he comes, is going to bring all things to your remembrance,
whatsoever I have, past tense, said unto you. Which means the people that say
that you do not have to obey the commands of the gospel, unless they have been modified
later, or the warnings or the promises of the four Gospels are false teachers. They may be in other ways good
men. They may in other ways be very bright, very intelligent. But I'm finding more and more
people barely even read today. Even the people that followed
Scofield They've never read any books by Schofield, hardly. They've just read a few of the
notes of the Schofield Bible. They say, well, such and such,
he can really teach you dispensational truth, you know? If you're teaching anything that
contradicts the Holy Spirit in the New Testament, you're teaching
false doctrine. Thank God there were men in the
days of Schofield that tried to rebuke him and others like
Bollinger. And they did it in love. But there was some disagreement.
They all gathered together in prophecy conferences. And they
would each read their papers. And men like Bollinger and Schofield
would say, well, we object to this, and we object. This is
for the Jews. This is for the Jews. The gracious Christians, which
were in the majority, would stand up. These were the ruling men
of the day, or shall we say the leading men of the day. Spurgeon
said, Govett and Pember are the leading futurist men. And Govett
and Pember and so many others, Fry, Poynter, all of these men, Plainly taught. A much saner dispensationalism. Listen to what Pember wrote around
the 1880s or early 1900s. He says, Believers often treasure
up a store of ideas which they have either received from others
or accumulated through their own inadequate study. He says
you end up walking around with these things that you're believing
and you've got them from others or you confuse yourself by inadequate
study, and it really messes you up, man. What I did when I first got saved, I read the Bible as many times
as I possibly could, and still read it. I would sit for days, for hours,
day after day after day after day in Dallas Seminary Library,
Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary Library and SMU Library. Praise God, they were all very
close. I could spend my whole days there. Every day, just in
the library, just reading books, just library, in the library.
And I began to collect books from all over the world. I had people that would look
for these things and collect them and send them to me. And
I wanted all of the books of prophecy that I could find. All
of the writers. I have things from the 1600s,
1700s, 1800s. I collected them and I read them. I didn't just collect them to
look at. I read them. I studied them. And the point was, is I did not
want to just believe what somebody told me. The Bible is our final authority,
our only absolute infallible authority, but God has raised
up a lot of good teachers that had a high degree of light. But what's happened in modern
days is they have handpicked what teachers they want you to
read. And hundreds and hundreds and
hundreds of men that were more popular in their day than these
others, that's what they want you to
follow. They want you to believe a premillennialism that has been pruned and purged of things that are very important
to us. The commandments of our Lord. The warnings of our Lord. See, they want to feel good premillennialism
that can make you look to yourself as if you're keeping your salvation
and bringing forth enough fruit and you're not a false professor.
But then you say, I have nothing to fear at the judgment seat.
God's just going to hand out brownies for me. Maybe some more
coffee and donuts for me. Listen to what Pember says. Quote, we must now seek to discover
when the Mosaic system began to give place to a new order
of things. When did the age of law begin
to give place to the age of grace and truth? The age of the law
and the prophets ceased when John appeared. The Mosaic dispensation
ceased with the appearance of John the Baptist. Now, an objection will be raised. People will say, now Jesus hadn't
died yet. So how could the new law be given? Ha ha ha ha ha. And they walk
away scorning and mocking. Haughty, haughty, haughty. Well, did you check the Bible,
my friend? Let me read a verse to you. A
few verses. Hebrews chapter 9, verse 18. Whereupon neither the
first testament was dedicated without blood, For when Moses,
now listen, had spoken every precept to all the people according
to the law, he took the blood of calves and of goats with water,
and scarlet wool, and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book and
all the people, saying, This is the blood of the testament
which God hath enjoined unto you. So what do you see here? In the first testament, you see
the spoken words of the Testament, the law of the Testament. And then you see the sprinkling
of the blood, the blood of calves and of goats. So what would you
expect? What did Moses say? Verse 20,
saying, this is the blood of the Testament, which God hath
enjoined unto you. Just in case there's any doubt
about that. So what was the order for the
first Testament? The law was read, then the blood was shed.
The problem is, is the blood of bulls and goats and calves
cannot take away sin. So what did our Lord do? He came
after the order of Melchizedek. Once the age of the law of Moses
had ended, he came in his public ministry
at 30 years old. and gave the precepts, he gave
the law of the New Testament, and then he shed his blood. Therefore, the Sermon on the
Mount is not Old Testament, it's New Testament. It's not law of
Moses, it's the law of the Lord Jesus Christ, the changing of
the law. And to be ashamed of the Lord
Jesus Christ's words, He will be ashamed of you at
His coming. Let me take just a few minutes
and just read through Matthew 5, just some of it, just a few
minutes. Matthew 5, and seeing the multitudes,
he went up into a mountain, and when he was set, his disciples
came unto him. You see that? Believing disciples. These words are to Christians.
And he opened his mouth and taught them, taught them, his disciples,
saying, Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the
kingdom of heaven. That is the kingdom that heaven will establish
upon this earth. The ministry of John the Baptist was from
heaven. That is the authority of God, not man. This coming
kingdom, this millennial kingdom that will be established is by
the authority of God and it will not be ushered in by man. And
if you are poor in spirit, that means humble. That is a key to
inheriting this kingdom that's coming. Blessed are they that
mourn for they shall be comforted. That is mourn for sin. Mourn that Jesus isn't here.
Blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the earth. The
kingdom of heaven and inheriting the earth, same thing. The kingdom
is God's thousand year kingdom that he is establishing on earth.
Blessed are the poor, they'll get the kingdom of heaven. The
kingdom established by heaven. Revelation 19, Revelation 20.
Blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the earth. You
see that? We have an inheritance that's
unconditional by grace through faith alone for all eternity. But we also have a millennial
inheritance. Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after
righteousness, for they shall be filled. Blessed are the merciful,
for they shall obtain mercy. That is at the judgment seat
of Christ. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see
God. That is in the millennial glory. Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they shall be called the children of God. Blessed are
they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs
is the kingdom of heaven. That's not the millennial kingdom.
command right now. In other words, this is a command
for the millennial kingdom. There's no persecuting in the
millennial kingdom. This is for now. This is for
now. You get the kingdom of heaven for suffering. Paul says, if
we suffer, we shall reign. Revelation 20 says he saw thrones
and they sat upon them. And he saw the martyrs sitting
upon thrones who had been beheaded. The early Christians for 300
years taught that, they asked them, why are you allowing yourselves
to be martyred by lions and such like? They said, we hope to obtain
to the first resurrection. We want to reign with the Lord
Jesus. Read Polycarp, read these early writers, read Tertullian.
Blessed are you when men shall revile you and persecute you
and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely for my sake. Rejoice and be exceeding glad,
for great is your reward in heaven, for so persecuted they the prophets
which were before you. They will lie about you, they
will falsely accuse you, but rejoice. Verse 13, you are the salt of
the earth. He's not talking to unbelievers. But if the salt
have lost his savor, not savior, savior, wherewith shall it be
salted? It is henceforth good for nothing
to be cast out and to be trodden under foot of men. The Lord's
warning you. He didn't give you all the truth
so you could just sit here and do nothing. You need to be salty. You're the light of the world.
Unbelievers aren't the light of the world. A city that is
set on a hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle
and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick. And it giveth
light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine
before men that they may see your good works and glorify your
Father, which is in heaven. See, he says your Father. These
are children of the Father. They are children of God by faith,
by believing upon the Lord Jesus Christ. And he says, do not hide
your light. Do not hide your words. Otherwise,
you're gonna be in a lot of trouble. Think not that I'm come to destroy
the law or the prophets. I am not come to destroy, but
to fulfill. Notice that the prophecies are being fulfilled and have
been fulfilled. The Lord fulfilled the law by living it 100% perfectly
for us. And he has the authority to change
it, amend it. For verily I say unto you, till
heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall no wise pass
from the law till all be fulfilled. Isaiah 53, the suffering servant
on the cross has been fulfilled. Zechariah, the king comes lowly
riding on an ass has been fulfilled. But there are many prophets in
the old Testament that have not been fulfilled. And there has been
a changing of the law. Whosoever therefore shall break
one of these least commandments and shall teach men so, he shall
be called the least in the kingdom of heaven. You get in the millennial
kingdom for breaking the least of them, but you will be least
in the kingdom of heaven. That is the millennial kingdom.
But whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called
great in the kingdom of heaven. For I say unto you that except
your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes
and Pharisees, you shall in no case enter the kingdom of heaven. That is if you neglect the big
things. That is, if you commit the sins that are in Galatians
5 and Ephesians 5, you shall not inherit the kingdom.
And what did Paul say? Thee shall not inherit the kingdom
of God. Paul is just repeating what the Lord Jesus preached
right here. There are small things you can sin in and it will affect
your position in the coming millennial kingdom. But there are big things
you do and you will be shut out of reigning in the coming millennial
kingdom. Almost every premillennialist
in history, especially early history, first 300 years, as
well as in the days of the revival of the Reformation, they believe
that you only get into the coming millennial kingdom and reign
there if you have the spirit of a martyr, or if you're martyred,
they believe others stay in heaven. Other men take the Lord Jesus
Christ literally, such as Pember, Govett, Poynter, all of these,
and believe that you're in the underworld somewhere. I believe the Lord has made it
plain what happens when you miss the millennial kingdom. There's so much more we could
say. I'm gonna stop here, but we could go on and show how the
Lord Jesus Christ basically said, Moses said this, but I say this. It has been said, whosoever shall
put away his wife, let him give her a writing of divorcement.
That was Moses. But I say unto you, the Lord Jesus amends Moses. It couldn't get any plainer.
Matthew 19 verse 8. He said unto them, Moses, because
of the hardness of your heart suffered you to put away your
wife. But from the beginning it was not so. And I say unto
you, whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication. That's why the people were very
confused and astonished. They said, He teaches us, not
like the scribes, but as one that has authority, like He's
able to change the law. Amen to that. The priesthood
being changed, there is made of necessity a change in the
law. Melchizedek priesthood, not Levitical. Jesus Christ,
not Moses. The moral teachings of the Old
Testament are repeated in the New Testament. And the Old Testament
is profitable for doctrine, for reading. But some things have
been changed. Some things have been put away.
Other things abide. Don't let anybody ever teach
you that the four Gospels, the commandments
of the Lord Jesus, unless they've been amended later, plainly,
are not for you today. Don't let anybody ever teach
you that the promises, the wonderful promises in the Gospel of John,
the promises all throughout Luke and Matthew and Mark, don't let
anybody tell you that those promises are not for you today, unless
they are specifically and plainly said to someone else and not
meant to be applicable. to us today. And don't let anybody
tell you that these warnings of the Lord Jesus that he gave
to disciples, that he gave to light of the world, salt of the
earth, children of the father, that he gave to John and James
and Peter. Don't let anybody tell you that
those warnings are not for you today. You might not understand
them. You might need light to interpret
them. I believe in eternal security,
salvation by grace through faith alone, but I believe in the warnings
and the commandments of the Lord Jesus that have not been modified
later in the New Testament. And these warnings have not been
modified. They've only been further taught to us and emphasized. Dear Lord, we thank you. We thank
you for the Lord Jesus Christ. We thank you that grace and truth
has come by the Lord Jesus Christ to give us a clearer view We
thank you, Lord, that we're not under the ceremonies or the mosaic
law. We thank you, Lord, that salvation
is not by works or keeping any law, but through trusting Jesus
Christ, His grace, His mercy. Now, Lord, help people understand
this, that our lives might be more
holy that we might fear you more, love you more, understand you
more. In Jesus name, amen.
