The event, recorded in 1 Samuel 31, occurs on Mount Gilboa. At the heart of the disaster is what Saul does to himself. "Therefore, Saul took his sword and fell upon it." These sad words in the Bible report the tragedy of the death of the first King of Israel. Saul's suicide is as tragic as any other suicide case. It forces us to reflect seriously on the tragedy of self-inflicted death. "Why is suicide so tragic?"
