You ought to read Galatians chapter 5 in its entirety. We won't do it now. I would have liked to, but there's no time for it. 19 is what I'm looking for? Yeah, but let's go to 17. Galatians 5, 17, or 16, because this goes right along with this whole chapter of 8 in Romans. Verse 16, this I say then, walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfill the lusts of the flesh. Well, there you go. There's your answer to no sin. You might want to underline that in your Bible. How can I have no sin in my life, and how can I live a victorious Christian life? Well, walk in the Spirit. It doesn't say obey the Ten Commandments, does it? It's an interesting thing to me as I read the New Testament, and I read Paul, where it doesn't tell me to follow these commands. It tells me to walk in the Spirit. That tells me that if I walk in the Spirit, well, kind of what it says here, walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. It's just going to happen. That's real eye-opening. Verse 17, for the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh. And these are contrary, the one to the other, so that you cannot do the things that ye would. But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law. That goes along with what we've been saying, right? If you're led of the Spirit, you're not under the law. So you're not under the law. I think you know that, but I mean, it's a little bit different when you think about it in terms of how the Bible is explaining it. If you are trying to live a Christian life, and you can do it one of two ways. You can walk in the Spirit, or you can put a bunch of rules down for yourself. Now, rules are good. I hope you have rules in your house. I hope you don't let your kid just rip everything apart and, you know, just break things at will and stay up as late as they want and watch TV and eat cake all day. Right? Rules are good. You ought to have rules. But if you're living by rules and your rules you think make you spiritual, you're wrong. Your rules don't get you closer to God. Walking in the Spirit gets you closer to God. And if you walk in the Spirit, the rules will take care of themselves. Hey, the inward man comes out to the outward man. So when you cuss, then I know what your inward man looks like. And when you watch wrong things and you laugh at wrong things, and when you go to wrong places, I know what's going on on the inside. It doesn't take a genius to figure that out. The Bible already told me. But if your inward man is renewed in the Spirit and your inward man is walking after the Spirit and rejoicing in the Lord and the fruits of the Spirit are coming out of you, then guess what? It comes out of you. And there is no rules that you follow. It's just how you live because you don't want to disappoint your Savior. You want to walk with God. It's a really eye-opening discovery. Verse 18, but if you are led of the Spirit, you are not under the law. Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these, and you can read that list. It's all that adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, idolatry, witchcraft. I mean, all this stuff. You can go on all the way to verse 21, but verse 22 contrasts that with, but the fruit of the Spirit, Now the things of the flesh, the works of your flesh, they will come out. You are an adulterer. You are a witch. You are an idolater. You hate. You have variance and emulations and wrath and you have strife and you're seditions and you have heresies, even heresies. Biblical stuff, heresies that come out of you, all the revelings, murders, drunkenness, that's you under the law. It reveals all that stuff about you, but then you get to the fruit of the Spirit. I would rather have this coming out of me in verse 22, but the fruit of the Spirit is love. That's what everybody says they want, right? Everybody says they want love, love, love, all we need is love, the Beatles. Love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance, against such there is no law. Hey, listen, I dare say if verse 22 and 23 were oozing out of all of us, we wouldn't post any rules in the church. They would just take care of themselves, right? And it goes on and gives you more detail on that. It talks about loving the brethren. and bearing one another's burdens. We don't have time for all that this morning, but that's how the fruit of the Spirit manifests itself out of us. Just look at your paper. It's more than following a set of rules. I gave you several verses there in Galatians, but just read the whole chapter. It's really, really good. First of all, what does the Bible say about getting the Spirit? How can I get the Spirit in me? I want to be filled with the Spirit. All the charismatics say, get the second blessing of the Holy Spirit, get the power, get baptized with the Holy Ghost. Well, I was baptized with the Holy Ghost the day I got saved. And so were you. So don't fall for that wordsmithing that they do. You were already baptized. But they say, so how do I get that? How do I walk in the Spirit? If I walk in the Spirit, I won't fulfill the lust of the flesh. So how do I walk in the Spirit? Well, the recipe's in the Bible for it. And that's what I'm giving you on your paper. Nine things. And there's actually more than nine things. But nine is enough. I don't even have time to go through all nine. But the things of the Spirit, first of all, you can read the Bible. You understand that the Bible and the Spirit of God are work in tandem? That when you read the Bible, that the Spirit of God is there, if you're saved, it is there wanting to teach you? There's verses for it, I gave you that. In 1 Corinthians 2.10, I have it on my paper, let me just read it. But God hath revealed them to us by His Spirit, for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God, verse 13, which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth, comparing spiritual with spiritual. The Holy Ghost teaches the Bible. So when you open that Bible up, you are inviting the presence of the Holy Ghost. and you start reading that Bible, and here's a better thing to do, pray and ask God for understanding what I'm about to read, God, open my eyes to it. The Bible says it's a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. May it lighten my path today. The Bible says that the entrance of thy word giveth light. Give me light today. The Bible says that if I hide thy words in my heart, that I might not sin against God, then help me to rememorize as I read this, help it not to just go in one ear and out the other, or in one eye and out the other. but help it to get in there and stick and stay. And I pray these things, Lord, as I read the Bible. And the Holy Ghost is there when you read the Bible. You want to be filled with the Spirit? You don't read your Bible? What, you read the pop-up verse of the day on your phone? Ain't gonna cut it, right? The next thing is spread the gospel. Spread the gospel. The Holy Spirit is directly involved in that because we've been talking about that. He wants to indwell people. The Holy Spirit of God, you are a temple of the Holy Ghost. The Bible says that when you get saved, you're indwelt with the Holy Spirit, you're sealed with the day of redemption. That's what we've been talking about, the power we have within us. And that's an active thing that the Spirit of God is involved in. When we spread the gospel, we are promoting that. We are inviting people to be saved and be baptized with the Holy Ghost is what they're doing. Right? So spread the gospel. Number three, sing and listen to good music. Oh, I'd love to park here. I can't, but I'd love to tell you more about this. Look, Ephesians 5, 18 and 19 are a great place for you to just meditate on. It talks about the right kinds of music, and they are psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody. Melody is the dominant feature of psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs. Not the beat, not the rhythm. Right? The music will sweep you off your feet. You know that. I wish I could give you an example. I can't this morning. But I could play one song for you right now, and I know what will go on in your mind if I play it. Just the music. All I have to do is play the music, and I'm not going to get into it. Maybe one day we'll do this. But I could just play just one stanza of one song, and I know where your mind will go. and I could play, but then I could have someone get on that piano and play one stanza of one hymn, and I know where your mind will go. It's the music. All right? And so you need to have good music. If you don't have good music, come see me, come see my wife, see other people. We've got tons of music that we listen to. We've got CDs from Christian groups and, you know, good Christian groups, King James Bible-believing Christians who know good music, and that's the kind of stuff we put in our car and listen to all the time. My phone is filled with that kind of music, because that's what I need, to invite the Spirit of God. Because you know what else I'll do? If I go out in that store this afternoon, if I go to Walmart, if I go to the restaurant, wherever I go, they're going to be playing their music. And you know what that's going to do? It's going to flood me with memories, with words. I mean, I was at the restaurant the other day, and I think I told you this story, and they were playing Don Henley from the Eagles. He was singing Hotel California, and all the words just came right into my head. Every single one of them, but I used it. I witnessed to the lady, and I told her, that's talking about hell. And she was surprised. She goes, wow, I never knew that. But you see how that can go? So you better have good music to combat the bad music, the old music. Then clean up our language. Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace to the hearers, and grieve not the Holy Spirit of God. When you have corrupt communication coming out of your mouth, you're grieving the Spirit of God. So what should come out of your mouth? Words that edify. That's what Paul said. Edifying words should come out of your mouth. Now, you may say, well, that's why I'm not mean to people. I don't tell them if they're doing wrong because I don't want to have corrupt communication. That's not what that means. You can go ahead and when you preach, you have to reprove, rebuke, and exhort. or else you couldn't preach, right? But when you're talking to believers and when you're just trying to, you know, everything you look at is blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, you know, the politics and the news and the world and traffic and life, and that's how I talk, right? You laughed. That's how I talk, because this is one of the areas I need to clean up my language, right? And so we give edification out of our mouths. That'll invite the Holy Spirit. I haven't once given you the Ten Commandments yet. I've told you to read your Bible, spread the gospel, listen to good music. Did I give you the Ten Commandments yet? No, but if you're filled with the Spirit, you're not under the law, and if you're filled with the Spirit, you'll produce the things that don't require rules in your life, right? Clean up your, abstain from drinking. Hey, even the world puts it out on the signs. Come on, don't try to kid me. They say food and spirits. Food and spirits. Come on in and get some spirits. What do you mean? Well, get some alcohol. Oh, so you know it brings spirits, but not the Holy Spirit. It brings spirits. And you do things that you would have never done before under the influence of those spirits. And many man has beaten his wife, and many a man has divorced and spent all his living on one weekend at the bar because he's under the influence of the spirits, not the Holy Spirit. Right? And so get rid of your drinking. Please, don't argue with me or the pastor about drinking. Okay? Just don't bother. You want to argue about drinking? I mean, look, if you're just doing a Bible study and you're trying to figure it out so you can help you, we'll talk to you. But if you want to drink, go ahead and drink. Have at it. Just go ahead. You've got my permission to go ahead and drink. Right? Ruin your life. I can't stop you from ruining your life. All these Christians want to go out there and drink and find reasons why it's okay for their friends to even drink so they can still have them over and sit and have wine with them. I'm not drinking, but I'm letting them. Don't let them even in your house to do that. You can fellowship with the saints. That invites the Spirit. Because why? Because the Spirit is bearing witness with their spirits, and we all are filled with the Spirit. You get around Spirit-filled people, you're going to be more Spirit-filled. That's why I come to church, part of the reason, to get around you. So we can sing and rejoice and talk about the things of God instead of, I don't have to go out there and talk about the world. Submit to preaching, that's another one. 1 Corinthians 2,4, I'll just give you that one. And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the spirit and power. So then faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God that comes through preaching. If you don't like preaching, there's something wrong with you. If you're saved, you ought to love preaching. You ought to get preaching. And here's a Final Fight Bible Radio. Make a little plug. We say it all the time. Final Fight Bible Radio. All you got to do nowadays is turn that on and you will get preaching. And you can just listen to as much preaching as you can handle. And you ought to. It's a good thing. Pray. Pray to get the Spirit of God. Ephesians 2.18, for through Him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father. We have access by the Spirit unto the Father. We pray directly to Jesus Christ. We don't have a mediatrix. Mary is not our mediatrix. We don't pray through a saint or through a statue or confess our sins to a priest. We go straight to Jesus Christ. We're going to get to it in verse 15 of Romans 8. For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear, but ye have received the spirit of adoption whereby we cry, Abba, Father. We go straight to the top. We have the power now through Jesus Christ, through the Spirit of God that dwells into us, and we can be more filled with the Spirit of God as we pray. And then sanctification of our bodies, which is the temple of God. Know ye not, 1 Corinthians 3.16, know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? So we might want to sanctify that, we might want to clean that up, and there's where some of the Ten Commandments might help out a little bit. We clean up this body, we represent Jesus Christ as ambassadors for Jesus Christ, but all these things, guys, and there's others in the Bible, giving is another one. I don't have time, I'm gonna stop. Giving is another one, where we invite the Spirit of God into our lives when we give, and specifically when we give to the church. So all these things we can do, if we want the Spirit of God, that's your recipe right from the Bible. And if you walk in the Spirit, you won't fulfill the lust of the flesh. Hey, let me just suggest to you that if you have the fruits of the Spirit there in Galatians, you have the fruits of the Spirit, you may just be so happy and peaceful and joyful that you don't even want those old, beggarly, weak and beggarly elements of this world again wherein you desired again to be in bondage. You look at, hey, if you're on a diet and you get off of something, whatever it is, and you start to feel better because you're not eating sugar anymore, you don't want to go back to the sugar, do you? I mean, you don't want to go back to those things that were wrecking your body and making you feel bad every day. It's the same thing with God. Once you start to experience the Christian life as it's meant to be experienced, once you start to walk in the Spirit, you will not fulfill the lust of the flesh, and you won't want to fulfill the lust of the flesh. You'll say, those things were terrible. I can't believe I ever enjoyed that music. I can't believe I ever talked that way. I can't believe I ever behaved that way or thought that way. And you'll put away the old things, and you'll put off the old man, and you'll put on the new. And that's what walking in the Spirit, and that's what Romans chapter 8 is all about. All right, so I'm out of time, and we'll finish more of it next week. But let's pray.
