The Favorable Year of the Lord Has Come
Series Luke
In Luke 4:14–30, we witness Jesus begin his preaching
ministry in Galilee to public acclaim (vs. 14–15) and
engage in 2 acts of teaching in the synagogue at Nazareth.
I. Jesus preaches in the synagogue at Nazareth.
A. He reads from the prophet Isaiah
(vs. 16–20).
B. He preaches from the prophet Isaiah (v. 21).
C. The people respond positively (v. 22).
II. Jesus prophesies in the synagogue at Nazareth.
A. He tells the people their thoughts (v. 23).
B. He predicts Israel's rejection (v. 24).
C. He foreshadows His ministry to the
Gentiles:
- The example of Elijah (vs. 25–26).
- The example of Elisha (v. 27).
D. The people respond with angry rejection,
trying to kill Him (vs. 28–29).
E. Jesus escapes their deadly plan (v. 30).
