Christ's Strength, Our Strength

317

It is tempting to view these and other words of the Apostle Paul as the statements and sentiments of a super Christian. He gives us proclamations we'd like to believe and describes practices we'd like to employ, but they seem so full of an other worldly godliness seemingly unattainable by the likes of average Christians like us. However, Paul's words express the very basics of Christianity. Today, we'll focus on these entirely accessible means of advancing in our faith, being strengthened by and further built upon Christ our Cornerstone.

  • The sign of Christian strength
  • Unbelievable faith
  • Believing the Basics
  • Christ the Strong One
  • Not victims but victors

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:

  • Discuss the relationship between God's sovereignty and our sanctification, particularly in light of Philippians 2:13.
  • How can putting Paul (and others in Scripture like him) on a pedestal help us to rationalize our sin?
  • Why do we have a hard time believing the basics of Christianity?
  • In addition to the discipline of contentment, what are other basic Christian disciplines which, when practiced, evidence the power of God at work in us?
  • What encouragement can we take from God's Word regarding the seemingly increasing intolerance of Christianity in our land?
