If you'd like to find your place
in Matthew chapter 21, Matthew chapter 21, the title of the
message is, What is in your temple? What is in your temple? Matthew
chapter 21 in verse 10, it says, And when he was come into Jerusalem,
all the city was moved, saying, Who is this? And the multitude
said, This is Jesus, the prophet of Nazareth of Galilee. I'm glad I know who Jesus is. And Jesus, verse 12, went into
the temple of God and cast out, and underline those words, all
them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the
tables of the money changers and the seats of them that sold
doves, and said unto them, it is written, my house shall be
called the house of prayer. But ye have made it a den of
thieves. In verse 14, it says, and the
blind and the lame came to him in the temple. and he healed
them. And when the chief priests and
scribes saw the wonderful things that he did, and the children
crying in the temple and saying, Hosanna, the son of David, they
were sore displeased, and said unto him, Hearest thou what these
say? And Jesus said unto them, Yea,
have ye never read out of the mouth of babes and sucklings
thou hast perfected? Praise. Jesus went into the temple
and he did not approve what he found in the temple of God. Hey,
I wonder today, I wonder what Jesus would find in your temple. Well, you may say, Preacher,
what do you mean by that? Well, what do you mean my temple?
Well, how many of you are saved today? If you raise your hand
and you're saved, 1 Corinthians 3.16 says, Know ye not that ye
are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in
you? Oh, the day that you got saved,
your body became the temple of God. Jesus moved in. The Holy Ghost moved in. God
moved into your life. Oh, the day that you got saved,
Jesus cleaned house. He, just like He cleaned out
the temple here, Jesus cleansed you of all sin and He moved in. Hey, when Jesus went into the
temple, He found things that He did not approve of. Oh, the
money changers were theirs and those that were selling this
and selling that and those that were selling doves. Can you just
imagine the chaos that was in there? Can you imagine the sound
that was going on inside the temple and the feathers and the
bird dung that was there? Oh, it was a disgrace for what
was inside the temple that day. And Jesus did not approve of
those who had perverted the temple. Why? Because there was no worship
going on. There was no humility. There
was no singing. There was no praising God. There
was no one giving themselves to prayer and meditation. And
Jesus told them in verse 13, He said to them, It is written,
My house, shall be called the house of prayer, but ye have
made it a den of thieves." Boy, I wonder. I can't help but to
wonder what have we robbed God of in our temple. I wonder if
Jesus was going to walk in our temple today and look inside
of our heart and our minds and our thoughts. I wonder if he
said, man, what a den of thieves in here. Well, I wonder what
have we allowed in our temple that Jesus would not be happy
with. I wonder what have we allowed
to take preeminence in our temple instead of Jesus having the number
one spot. Oh, Jesus mentioned that his
house was a house of prayer. Boy, how many times have we robbed
God of our prayers and our worship and our praise because we've
allowed other business to preoccupy our minds and hearts. Oh, did
you notice that as soon as Jesus cleansed the temple? Do you know
what took place? I mean, it's right there in our
passage. What took place? As soon as the temple was cleansed,
what took place? Healing took place. Lives were
changed. As soon as the temple was cleansed,
praises to Jesus was heard. Oh, in 1 Corinthians 3.17 it
says, If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy. For the temple of God is holy,
which temple ye are. Boy, I wonder today if there's
any sins in our life that Jesus would not be happy with. And
as a matter of fact, that's every sin. He's okay with some and
he's not okay with others. No, he doesn't like any sin.
God's temple is holy. In 1 Peter 1 15 it says, But
as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner
of conversation, because it is written, Be ye holy, for I am
holy. You see, to be holy is a commandment
of God. God commands us to be holy. What does it mean to be holy?
That means there can't be no sin. in our life. I wonder if our conversation,
our manner of life, the things that we allow in our life, the
things that we listen to, the things that we give ourselves
to, the things that we allow inside of us that's going to
manipulate our thoughts. I just wonder, do they please
the Lord? I'm talking about what we listen
to and who we listen to and what we say and what we think, what
we keep inside of us. I wonder today if there's any
hate inside of us. I wonder if there's any bitterness
or anger or unforgiveness in our heart. Hey, Jesus is passing
by. and he's coming through your
temple and the Holy Spirit is searching the heart. He's searching
your temple today for anything that should not be there, for
anything that you're robbing God of in your life because you've
replaced what belongs to him with something else that he does
not approve of. I just wonder, I wonder what
do we watch on the internet? Oh, Jesus had to cleanse the
temple. before worship could happen. Oh my, no wonder so many
people go to church, but they never worship. They never worship
God. Why? Because there's things in
their temple that shouldn't be there. Before wonderful things
in our passage could happen in the lives of people, the temple
had to be cleansed. Oh, I wonder today what needs
to be cleansed in our temple. I wonder who Jesus would love
to help through us. Oh, but because we've allowed
so many things into our temple that don't belong there. We're
keeping Jesus from using us, from helping others. All these
money changers that was in the temple, they were in it for themselves. Those dove sellers and those
that sold and bought things there, they were in it for themselves. None of those things benefited
anyone that needed healing. None of those things benefited
the children who were in the temple. All the chief priests
and the scribes, they were offended at what Jesus did. Oh, but those
wonderful things that they saw, it caused others to praise Jesus. In 1 Corinthians 6, 19 it says
what? Know ye not that your body is
the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have
of God, and ye are not your own? What did Jesus say in verse 13? And he said to them, it is written,
my house, my house shall be called the house of prayer, but ye have
made it a den of thieves. How many of you heard someone
say or you saw it on the news or in a headline or heard people
demonstrating and saying things like this, it's my body. It's
my choice. Well, according to God, if you're
saved, then your body does not belong to you. It belongs to
God. Oh, that slogan, it's my body,
it's my choice. All that is is nothing but rebellion
and sin against God. God said that all things were
created for his pleasure. Oh, whether a person is saved
or not, they were created for God's pleasure. So for somebody
to say, it's my body, it's my choice, all that is is rebellion
against God. It's rebellion against the reason
why they were created. Most of the time that slogan
is used to advocate the taking of life. It's used by people
who believe it's okay to kill babies, those who say that abortion
is justified. A baby is alive at the moment
of conception. to abort an unborn child is to
take that baby's life. God said in Exodus 20, 13, Thou
shalt not kill. It is a sin to abort a child. In 2 Corinthians 6.16 it says,
And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? For ye are
the temple of the living God. As God hath said, I will dwell
in them, and walk in them, and I will be their God, and they
shall be my people. The day that you get saved, Jesus
moves in to his house. We belong to Him. The day that
you get saved, you hand over the keys to your house. But here's
the problem. When we decide to do things our
way and to go against God's commandments and His will for our life, then
you know what we do? We're trying to take the keys
back. Jesus does not have the same access he once had. Now the house still belongs to
him. We still belong to him. But he doesn't have the same
access as he had before. Jesus had to clean the temple.
I wonder if there's anything that Jesus needs to clean in
our temple today. Let's go to Matthew chapter 21.
In verse 15, it says that when the chief priests and scribes
saw the wonderful things that he did, and the children crying
in the temple and saying, Hosanna to the son of David, they were
sore displeased and said unto him, Hearest thou what these
say? And Jesus saith unto them, Yea,
have ye never read out of the mouth of babes and sucklings
thou hast perfected praise? Boy, the chief priests and the
scribes, they tried to find fault with Jesus, receiving praise
from children. Oh, you see, it wasn't the wonderful
things that they saw that bothered them. It was the fact that children
were praising Jesus. And Jesus calls the priests and
scribes and He calls them out and He refers them back to Psalm
chapter 8 and verse 2. It says, "...out of the mouth
of babes and sucklings, hast thou ordained strength because
of thine enemies, that thou mightest steal the enemy and the avenger."
Psalms 8-2 was fulfilled right before their eyes. And look at
their response. They got sore, displeased. Jesus tells them that Psalms
8-2 was all about Him. Oh, they knew. Psalms 8 was messianic. They would not believe on Jesus
as the Messiah. They would not believe God's
Word. You see, the children, they had
no problem believing. But that religious crowd was
blinded by their own pride and self-will. Jesus is here today
and he's convicting of sin and of righteousness and of judgment.
Can I ask you, what's in your temple? Is there any sin in your
life that Jesus would not be happy with in His temple? If there is, you need to confess
that to Him. You need to get right with Him.
Maybe you're underneath the sound of my voice and you've never
trusted Jesus as your Savior, and you still claim yourself
as being on your own. But can I remind you, you were
created for God's pleasure. You know what would bring Him
pleasure? It's for you to believe on the only begotten Son of God,
that He died on the cross, that He was buried. and that He rose
again for your justification. Jesus is the way, the truth,
and the life, and no man cometh unto the Father but by Him."
Would you call on the Lord and be saved today?
