1 John 3:22-23 (Psalm 34:8-22)
Introduction
· “Let Your Conscience Be Your Guide” – NOT (Ephesians 2:1-3)
· Our Conscience ought to be Guided by a Moral Standard Set Forth by God (Matthew 22:37-39)
· Our Conscience to be Guide by whether We have Love for the Brethren (1 John 3:16-18)
Three Consequences to Loving in Deed & in Truth (vs. 19-23)
Affirm that we are of the Truth (v. 19a)
- Reassure our Hearts (vs.19b-21)
Strengthen our Confidence Before God in Prayer (vs. 22-23)
· What verse 22 does NOT mean (James 4:3)
· What it Means?
o The Ungodly & Hypocrite NOT Heard (Proverbs 28:9)
o Only the Child of God heard by God – Not Obligation, but Freely of Mere Grace
· The Commandment Defined (v. 23):
o Believe on the Name of the Son of God, Jesus Christ (John 6:68-69, 39-40; Heb. 7:24-27; Psalm 9:10; 2 Timothy 1:12; 1 Peter 3:18; Romans 10:14)
o AND, Love One Another, as Christ Gave Us Commandment (Vs. 16-17; Ephesians 4:32; Matthew 6:14; 5:23-24)
Conclusion and Application
· Let Us Carry Good-will toward the Brethren, especially as We Approach the Throne of Grace
· Won’t You This Day Come to God Through Jesus Christ in true repentance & faith, and with love for the Brethren in Deed and in Truth?
