of God tonight, wanna be in the
book of Psalms, chapter 108. Psalms, chapter 108, gonna look
at the very last verse, which will be verse 13. Psalm 108,
the very last verse, which will be 13. Psalm 108, 13. When you
find your place, you stand with me, and we'll read this passage
together. It'll be Psalm 108, it'll be
verse 13. I'll honor the Lord tonight in
our reading, and let's read together Psalm 108, verse 13. The Bible
says, through God we shall do valiantly. for he it is that
shall tread down our enemies. Let's read it one more time.
The Bible says, through God, we shall do valiantly for he
it is that will tread down our enemies. Let's pray. Father,
we come to you tonight. We thank you, Lord, for your
goodness. Lord, we're thankful that we have a God that we can
come to, a Lord that knows how to provide, protect, give power,
that your presence is there, Lord, all these things. Now Lord,
I'm thankful that you love your people and you sent your son
to die for us and I'm thankful the Holy Spirit lives and dwells
inside of us and so now you have told us through your word that
we understand that we can do all things through Christ which
strengthens us and that greater is he that is in us than he that
is in this world. And so Lord, I'm thankful that
the God of heaven now lives and resides inside of your people.
Lord, I pray here tonight you'd help us as we go through your
word, as we go through this passage, that it would find a lodging
place in our heart and it would get to us what we need to hear
tonight from you. And we love you and we thank
you for all in this we pray in Jesus' name, amen. Amen, alright. The Bible says in Psalm chapter
108 there in verse 13, Through God we shall do valiantly, for
he it is that shall tread down our enemies. I entitled this
message, Yes, We Shall. Yes, we shall. As in thinking
about this, and I'm thankful for verses, and you don't have
to turn there, but Jeremiah chapter 32 and verse 17. that says this,
when we think about the things that we come across in life,
and the things that we face, whether they're enemies, giants,
obstacles, sins, whatever it is that we're dealing with, I'm
thankful for verses such as Jeremiah 32, 17. And the Bible says this,
it says, ah, Lord God. That exclamation point there
shows us that Jeremiah was letting out this, it wasn't just, I'm
so, at this moment, oh, just thank you, Lord. No, he was,
oh, Lord God. I mean, he was really putting
some power behind what he was saying. And when he was saying,
ah, Lord God, what was he had to say? He said, behold, thou
hast made the heaven and the earth by thy great power and
stretched out arm, and there is nothing too hard for thee. Oh, Lord God, behold, thou hast
made the heaven and the earth by thy great power and stretched
out arm, and there is nothing that is too hard for thee. And
I don't know about you, but that is something that ought to bring
a lot of peace and comfort and strength to every soul. And the
reason why that is is because we are faced with a lot of different
things. I can only imagine when we went through our prayer request
tonight, there's a lot of people that are dealing with a lot of
giant things that are in their paths right now, a lot of giant
things that they're facing, a lot of big things that they're looking
at, but I'm thankful that in every single situation, and in
every case. That we have a God that knows
exactly what he needs to do, exactly how he needs to touch,
exactly how he needs to work it all out. I'm thankful that
that's the God we serve tonight because the Lord, he leads, he
guides, he directs, he provides, he takes care. God does these
things for his people. We have a lot of folks on our
prayer page tonight that are in need of that, that are praying
for those different things. Here in our text here this evening,
we see and understand in Psalm 108, we see that there's a lot
that's going on. There's battles, there's all
different kinds of things that David is facing. And he actually
says there in verse 12, in the battles that he's facing, he
says, give us help from trouble, for vain is the help of man.
Give us help from trouble, for vain is the help of man. The
understanding that, listen, I'm going through some things that
the help of man can't do. I'm going through some things
that the help of man cannot give me victory over. I'm dealing
with some things that man cannot possibly touch. But I'm thankful
there's a God in heaven that we can call out to that can do
these things. Whether it's in our bodies, that
physically that we're praying and asking for, whether it's
financial problems and troubles, whether it's spiritual things,
salvations, of course. I mean a whole host of things.
The possibilities are endless tonight about the things that
we face on an everyday basis or the things that just come
up in life. And so David says, listen, I need some help, God.
The help of man is in vain. I can't count on man to do this. I can't count on a man to come
through me right here. I can't count on a man to fulfill
this. And I can't count on a man to
take care of this situation. But he says, God, I need you.
God, I know who I can turn to. And so he says there in verse
13, though I can't count on man, he says, through God, we shall
do valiantly. No, I can't count on man. No,
I can't rely on man. No, I can't trust in man. For
all these different things that I need in my life, but he says,
in essence, I'm thanking God. And I'm praising God. Who are
we gonna turn to? I mean, if I can't turn to man, then who
will I turn to? The Bible says, he says, through
God. This is our first truth tonight. Through God, we see
the word through, describes really the avenue that we take. the
avenue that we take. He says, listen, I need some
help. He says, man can't do nothing about it. And so what am I gonna
do? He says, I need to make sure that I take the right avenue.
I need to make sure that I go through the right place. I need
to make sure that I talk to the right person. Listen, when you
need something done, it's important that you go to the right place
and talk to the right people about getting done what you need
done, right? And he says, listen, I went to man and man couldn't
do it. You know, I go out to the world, the world says, listen,
this is what you need. The world can't provide, the
world can't take care of it. You would come over here and
they say, oh, this is what I can give you, this is what I can
provide. No, they can't do it. Drugs can't do it, alcohol can't do
it. They say they can, but they can't. And then you got all these
other things out here in the world. They're just vying for
our attention. It says, listen, just come to me and I'll take
care of it. But he says, you know what? I went out to man
and man could not help me. It was useless to go out into
the world. It was useless to go to man to
help me with the things that I needed, but all praise the
Lord, the God that made the heaven and earth with his outstretched
arm. Is there anything that's too
hard for you? And no, there's not. And so we
see when we're facing the giants of life and the Goliaths that
come our way, and the insurmountable odds that may come to our doorstep,
and we go out and we try to find these things to help us out in
the case that we are in, and the psalmist says, you know what?
Man cannot do it, but if I choose the right avenue, which he shows
us there in verse 13, he says, through God. And so what is the
right place, what is the right door? Did we not talk about on
Sunday, we talked about how Jesus is the door, and that there was
a difference between being by the door and through the door,
amen? There's a difference of just
being by the door and going through the door, and so here he says,
through God. So what am I gonna do? I can't
count on man to do these things, and so what am I gonna do? I'm
gonna go through God. That's the avenue that I'm gonna
choose. That's the path that I'm gonna
take. That's the doorway that I'm gonna go through. I'm gonna
go through God. Now, we can try to go through
these other things in the world. We can try to choose these other
things that are around us. We can try to go through man,
and we can try to go through all these other different avenues
of life that the devil so loves to bring before us. Or we can
say, I'm gonna choose the avenue through God. And he says, in
this situation, I can't count on man. He says, I'm gonna go
through God. He says, through God we shall
do valiantly. Victory depends. on the door
you choose. Victory depends on the door in
which you go through. Victory depends on who you talk
to and who you see and who you turn to in life. And so here
we see, he says, I can't turn to man, which is the world. And
so he says, what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna choose God. And so I ask you today, what
are you choosing? What is the avenue that you are
choosing to defeat the things in your life? What is the avenue
that we are choosing to defeat the things in our life? The Bible
calls them enemies, and we'll get to that here in a minute.
But he says, the avenue that I'm gonna choose, the one that
I'm gonna go through, that is gonna be God. And so the path
you choose, the door you choose, the avenue that you take to defeat
your enemies and to be victorious tonight, is choosing the right
door, choosing the right place. And the Bible doesn't leave us
in a place of question. The Bible doesn't let you sit
here and scratch your head and say, well, I wonder what it is
that I can do. I mean, if I can't go to man
and I can't go to the world, then what direction do I take?
God outlined it right here. He says, through me, through
God. Did not, as we said on Sunday,
Jesus said that he was the door of the sheep, and that any man
that comes through the door will find pasture. Will find pasture. And so, we find provision, we
find pasture, we find power, we find all these things, and
the Bible shows us the avenue which we take, and that is through
God. How are we gonna overcome these things? It is through God.
So the avenue is extremely important. And so make sure you're choosing
the right avenue, but of course, make sure you're choosing the
right authority, and not just the path that you take, the direction
that you go, but also the authority that you turn to. The Bible says
through God, God is the authority. Doesn't our Bible say that he
sits on the throne of heaven and that earth is his footstool?
Yes, it does. And so we make sure that as we
defeat our enemies and we conquer our giants in life, the things
that we're trying to be victorious over, The avenue that we choose
and the authority makes a big difference. And so we see that
he says, I'm going to choose the right avenue and that avenue
is going to be through God. It's not going to be, it's not
going to be just beside the door. I'm not just going to get this
close or this close. He says, but man, I'm going all
the way through it. I wanna make sure I got this
thing right. I wanna make sure that I am victorious. I don't wanna just get close
to the door. I don't wanna just get right
here by God. Listen, he says, I wanna go right
straight through it because there is a difference. I wonder if
the victory between the victory and the defeat's in people's
lives is because they are by it or because they're through
it. And so listen, if I'm serious about something, I'm not just
gonna say, listen, I'm just gonna get close. I'm going all the
way in. Amen. I'm going all the way in. I don't
wanna just play around with how close I can maybe perhaps get.
No, I wanna make sure that I go all the way through because if
victory is through God, then I wanna make sure that I go through.
I don't wanna make sure that I just hang around on the outside.
I wanna just make sure that I just get this close. But no, I wanna
make sure that I go all the way through. And so, Victory and
defeat may lie in the idea that some folks are not going through. They're not exactly picking the
right avenue, but we also see the authority. We come to God
because he has authority. The Bible says that he can do
all things, that there is nothing impossible with God. And so we
go to God because we know that nothing is impossible with him.
There is nothing that God can do. As our text said in Jeremiah
32, ah, Lord God, is there anything too hard for thee? No, there's
not. But I'll tell you what, it's
awful easy in our minds to say, well, I don't know, man, this
is awful big. Can I actually trust God with
this? I mean, I'm just being for real in our life. I mean,
we can face some things and we'll look at it and we'll say, this
is pretty big. Maybe I should try to do this
on my own. This is pretty big. Can I really put my faith and
trust in God to come through for me on this? And we can be guilty of that.
And the Bible says that, listen, our authority is God. And that the
Bible says that God can do all things. I mean, if he can lift
the sun up in the morning, as we talk about it, if he can lift
the sun up in the morning and tell it where to go and be in
charge of every second, be in charge of every minute, be in
charge of every hour, and then it goes down beyond the horizon. And then the next day, it comes
up right back in the same place. And it does it over and over
and over again. And it does it by the instruction
of God. And we look outside and we see the grass that grows.
And every single day, it seems like it grows taller and taller
and taller and taller. And God, in essence, telling
the grass when to grow. We look outside, we see the rain,
we see the clouds. We hear the wind and we see it
through the trees because God's telling it when to blow. God's
telling it when to fall. God's telling the thunder, God's
telling the lightning, when to strike. And the thunder, when
it makes this noise to reveal that it's there. I'm just trying
to get us to see tonight that God's in control of every bit
of it. Every single thing. The Bible says, by him all things
consist. And I'm talking everything. I
mean, there is nothing that consists in this earth, in your life,
in your body, and even outside of the cosmos that is there,
that God is not there and knows what's going on. By him all things
consist. And so making sure that we choose
the right avenue is extremely important, making sure that we're
going to the right authority. the right authority. I mean,
would not you go to someone that can do anything? But yet sometimes
we'll put God in a box, and we'll say, well, I'll just do this,
or I don't know, God, this is pretty big. But God is the authority. And the Bible says, listen, I've
done this, and I've created the heavens, I've created the earth,
I created man from the dust of the ground, and breathed into
his nostrils the breath of life, and I molded him and fashioned
him in our image. God can do all that, and save
your very soul, and wash you from sin, and write your name
down in the Lamb's book of life, and give you a home in heaven,
and keep you saved. There's a God that can do anything.
That can do anything. So the avenue that we take in
life is extremely important. He says, I can't go to man. It
is vain. He says, so God, what am I gonna
do? It is gonna be through God. How
am I gonna accomplish this feat? How am I gonna slay this giant?
How am I gonna defeat this sin? How am I gonna get through this
right here? Well, we're gonna do it through
God. So the avenue's important. The authority is important. But
also what we see is the Bible says through God, we. The word
we there strikes up the idea of an assembly to me because
it doesn't just mean me, it means all of us. Man, praise God for
that. Aren't you glad that God's no
respecter of persons? that the we can symbolize us all. The
we is all of us. That means that God's no respecter
of persons. That means he is a present help in time of trouble
for every single one of us. And that his power, and that
his presence, and that his provision is there for me, just like it
is for the George, and just like it is for Josh, and just like
it is for everybody in here tonight. every single one of us, and so
we see when all of us, when we can't go to man and we can't
go to the world, the avenue that we take is gonna be extremely
important, but the authority, one that puts this stamp of power
on it. He is gonna be the one that determines
the course of how everything goes, but he also says, we, all
of us, every single one of us here tonight, because God loves
every single one of us. And the Bible shows us here,
he says, how are we gonna get through? He says, through God,
we, every one of us. He didn't say, well, I don't
know, you got this sin in your life, and you got this sin in
your life, and you've done this today, and you've done that today,
so, nah, you know what, I'm not gonna be your God today. Nah, his mercies are renewed
every morning. I don't deserve for my heart to beat tonight.
I don't deserve for my lungs to expand, but his grace, his
mercy, his love, his long-suffering, it is all, in essence, renewed
every single day. And I'm so thankful here tonight
that the Bible tells me that, listen, when I can't turn to
man and I can't turn to the world, and I begin to maybe perhaps
rustle and struggle within myself about how I'm going to get victory
over sin or get victory over the Goliaths or struggles or
whatever it is that's in my life. But he says, through God, I'm
gonna make sure I go down the right avenue. I'm gonna make
sure that I appeal to the greatest authority. And I'm so thankful
that we, the assembly of God's people, can call out to an almighty
God who will hear his people and save them and help them.
The Bible says through God we. But the next word there the Bible
says is shall. What is that shall? That shall
gives me assurance. He says through God we shall
and that's why I entitled this message Yes. We shall. Because the Bible says, through
God, we shall. This right here is a, this right
here, he is banking on victory. Sometimes in life, I tell you
what, we can have a very pessimistic attitude and say, well, it ain't
gonna work out. This ain't gonna work and this
ain't gonna, you know, and this ain't gonna happen and this ain't,
you know, and all these kinds of things. And we can have a
very pessimistic attitude about ourselves, but man, I tell you
what, when we start putting some faith and trust in God and have
this optimistic spirit that, listen, I believe God can do
all things, And listen, even if God doesn't do it the way
I wanted it done, that just means God's got a different plan. It
don't mean that everything ain't still gonna go right. It's gonna
go the way God needs it to go. But we understand, we see it.
He says, through God we shall. He was counting on something
to happen. He was looking forward to something happening. He was
putting faith that they were gonna have victory. You maybe
heard this a long time before. It was about a drought that was
in the area and they were praying for rain and praying for rain
and praying for rain. and there was no rain, and then one day
they looked out and they saw this older lady walking into
the church with an umbrella over her head, and they said, what
are you doing? What are you walking into church with an umbrella
on your head? And she says, well, we prayed for rain, didn't we? I'm just trying to get us to
see tonight. Are we really, are we seeing with our eyes, or are
we seeing with our faith? Because the Bible says we walk
by faith and not by sight. Just like, remember Elijah, when
he was up there on top of Mount Carmel? And it hadn't rained
in three and a half years. And there he is, he's sitting
there, it ain't rained in three and a half years, and his servant's
up there with him. And he gets down on his, he gets
down on his hands and knees, prostrate before God, and there
he is, he's praying. He praying for rain. And he turns
to his servant and he says, walk out to the edge and tell me if
you see anything. And he walks out there and he
says, I see a cloud about the size of a. No, he walks out there
and he says, no, I don't see nothing. He says, walk out there
again. So he walks out there again. He comes back. He walks
out there and again he comes back. He walks out there and
again he walks out there several times and comes back and he says,
there's nothing. But then that last time he says, hold on a
minute. I see a cloud about the size of a man's hand. And he
said, well, what's a cloud the size of a man's hand gonna do
when we've had a drought for three and a half years? And he
stood there on the edge, and that little cloud the size of
a man's hand began to grow, and it got big, and it got big, and
it got big. Next thing you know, Elijah looks
at us, Elijah looks at Ahab that's up there, and he says, I tell
you what, He says, you better get down off this mountain, because
this is fixing to get ugly. That's exactly right. I'm just
trying to get us to see tonight is, even before he got down on
his knees, the verse before it, you know what he said? He said,
I hear the sound of an abundance of rain. And that was before
there was ever a cloud in the sky. I'm trying to get us to
see tonight is, can God, Can we? Yes, we can. Yes, we shall. Because there is nothing too
hard for God. And we say, well, preacher, it's just the size
of a man's hand. Well, nonetheless, I've been
out there and looked and I see nothing. It's still dry. There's
still nothing there. Go again, go again, go again,
go again, go again. Well, I do see a small cloud
about this big. God took that and did something
amazing. Can God? Yes, he can. Yes, and
yes, we shall. And so he says, through God,
we shall. And so we look for what's going
to happen. Through God, we shall. To him,
it was like it's already happened. He was looking like it was already
there. Yes, we shall. Assurance that
he had. So he says, through God, we shall.
And then he says, do. Through God we shall do. That
word do there means to accomplish. You know, sometimes God comes
along and he just does it on his own. And sometimes God comes
along and helps us to do it. He says, through God we shall
do. Remember whenever the prophet was down there by the brook.
And he says, well, ain't got nothing to eat. So God calls
the ravens. Oh, I can't whistle. The ravens come. Drop him off dinner and fly away. The birds come. God used a cloud. God used a bird, a raven in essence. And he called the ravens to come
and the ravens came and dropped his dinner off at night. And
he drank by the brook. Listen, God provides. And God
provides sometimes in supernatural ways, things that we can't even
explain and can't even write it down. I just can't even tell
you how it happened. And then sometimes God uses the
brook, something that's already there to provide for you. Both
instances happened at the same time. Nonetheless, God was providing.
But sometimes God is providing through what we do and helping
us along the way and empowering us and strengthening us. And
then sometimes God just says, stand still and see the salvation
of the Lord. You just stand here and watch me do my thing just
like you did down there with the people down there by the
Red Sea. You just stand still and you just watch your God fight
for you. You just stand still and watch
me be here for you and defend you and you just stand still
and watch me be here in the midst of all the chaos. Enjoy my presence. You just watch. And so, he says
here in the text, he says through God, We shall do. Not only that do is a sense of
accomplishment that we see that sometimes God works not just
independently on his own through our victories, but he also works
through us and helps us in our victories. We shall do. But notice
he says valiantly. We shall do valiantly. Well,
what does it mean to be valiant? Well, the idea is really inauditious. The idea to be fearless. The idea to be brave in this
situation. The idea to go out and be ready
to face whatever it is that's coming our way. We're gonna be
valiant in this process. We shall do valiantly whatever
comes my way. I'm standing right here because
I know that God is with me. I'm not depending on man, I'm
not depending on the world, because listen, man and the world is
vain in this situation. So how am I gonna do it? I'm
gonna do it through God. And through God, we shall do
valiantly. Through God, we can face this
thing together. Through God, we can press forward.
Through God, we will have victory. Through God, we will stand here
valiantly in the face of danger. And when it comes to the very
doorstep, I will not retreat. I will not back down. I will
not go the other way, but I will stand here as a man of God. I
will stand here as a woman of God. I will stand here as a child
of God. And I will look it in the face
and say, we shall do valiantly because we can win in the face
of our enemies because of God. I'm not gonna stop. I'm not gonna quit. I'm not gonna
back down. I'm gonna stand here and I'm
gonna be valiant. Not because he trusted in himself.
not because he was coming through with some sort of inner strength,
not because he was sitting there coming up with his own strength
on his own, but because he knew that within him was the God of
heaven that would be there to help him and that they would
face this thing together, not alone. Through this, we shall
do valiantly, God's presence, We together, we shall do valiantly. If God before us, as the Bible
says, who can be against us? And we shall do valiantly. We
will stand here in the face of it, and we will fight it, and
we will defend it, and we will not quit, we will not back down,
but we shall do valiantly because we are working through God, and
he is with us. So we ask ourselves, man, what
avenue are you taking? What authority are you appealing
to? The assembly tonight, the we.
Man, praise the Lord for a God that is willing to help us all. Do you have that assurance that
you need tonight? Notice the Bible says, through God we shall
do valiantly the next part of the text is for he it is. For
he it is. Appeals once again to our authority,
but it also shows this right here, which we already know,
which is his attendance. Was it that God was standing
up in heaven and just saying, ha, you can just do this. But he says, we shall do valiantly,
for he it is. He says, ha, I'm not gonna be
the one that defeats my enemies, but I'll show up. But I'm not
gonna be the one that fights. I'm not gonna be the one that
defeats them. but I'll show up. Remember when God told his people
there in 2 Chronicles chapter 20 when they was facing all the
enemies and they come from across the sea. And there they are,
God's enemies were coming to them from across the sea and
here they were, they were like, what are we gonna do? They prayed,
they fasted, I mean they did all kinds of things and God says,
I tell you what you do. You gather together and just put all your
weapons away. Walk out there to the hillside
and stand in front of your enemies and just start singing. I would probably get the first
air of, we got to take that guy out. And we don't want to hear
for that no more. He said, sing. Just go out there
and sing. Show up and sing. Because you
know what he said in 2 Chronicles 20? He says, the fight is not
yours. It is the Lord's. Through God we shall. Through
God we shall do valiantly. For he it is that would tread
down our enemies. For he it is. He says, just go
up, I tell you what, just put your faith and trust in me, and
you go out there, and you just stand on the hillside, and you
just sing to them. That's crazy. Sometimes, God may ask us to
put some trust and faith in things that to the eyes of man, maybe
seem kind of crazy. But are we putting our faith
in what we see, or what we really believe is gonna happen? So they
had to trust God. You know what? They went out
there, and God fought for them, and God defeated their enemies
for them. Through God we shall do valiantly, for he it is. He it is, we see his attendance.
He says in his word, I will never leave thee nor forsake thee.
And so we see his attendance is there in the situation. He
says there in verse 12, he says, listen, he says, give us help
from trouble, for vain is the help of man. We can't count on
the world, we can't count on man, but he it is that'll tread
down our enemies. he is the avenue that we're gonna
take, he is the authority that we're appealing to, and we are
the assembly that he's gonna fight for, and we have the assurance
that we need to have that he's gonna do it, and we're gonna
accomplish this thing, we know we are, and we're gonna stand
in front of it audaciously, and we're gonna be brave in the midst
of the challenge, and enjoy the intendance of God. There's never been a time, remember
whenever you was in school, And they would say, they'd go through
the roll. And then Josh, here. George, here. Jack, here. Jason, here. This kid, this kid,
this kid. There's never been a time when
somebody said, God, And there was silence because
God's there. He's always there. He's always
present. That was his promise. There's
never been a time when God was not present. When you took the
role and they, some people would say to say in here, they would
say what present present. There was never a time when God
wasn't present. He says he, it is. that will
tread down our enemies. He's present. He's there. But
the world and the devil, they go, oh, you know you're getting
this thing on your own, right? You know they don't nobody care,
right? You know that nobody's got your back. You know that,
man, you're done for. You're going to trust in God? God's always present. What did
Elijah tell the people up on Mount Carmel? They said, what?
They cried all day long. And the Bible says they jumped
on the sacrifices. They was calling out to Baal
and Baal never answered. And the Bible says they got so
frustrated they began to cut themselves. They were bleeding
all over the place. But there was not a word from any Baal.
You know what Elijah did? He sat back and he says, maybe
your God's on vacation. Maybe he's taking a nap. Never
not one time. Have we ever had a God that took
a vacation from your life? Never, one time, did we ever
have a God that could ever say, I'm not present. Because He's
everywhere. How can a God that's everywhere
say I'm not present? The Bible shows us right here.
He says, for he it is, not man, not the world, and not all the
other things that we grab ahold of to try to help us through,
but he says there in verse 13, he says, for he it is. That,
the next word, shall, brings us to our assurance. I tell you
what, he was so confident that God shall. In verse 13, he says,
through God we shall, for he it is that shall. He says not
only are we confident that God's gonna help us to it, but we're
also confident that God's gonna be here and he's gonna do it.
We're confident that we're gonna be here for it. And we're confident
that God's gonna be here for it. We're confident that we're
gonna do this thing together. The Bible says there in verse 13,
through God we shall do valiantly for he it is that shall. He had
perfect, perfect faith. that God would give victory.
For he it is that shall. And the next word, tread. Tread down. The idea to abolish. The idea to make an end of. The idea to eradicate. To abolish. For he it is that shall tread
down our enemies. He's gonna do away. You know
what it means to tread down? to tread, the idea to walk on
something. The idea to tread it down is
to walk on something repeatedly and then unless it's stomping
into the ground like it's nothing to flatten it, to flatten it. You ever stomped on something,
made it flat? He says God will come to what's given us problems
and he has the power to walk all over top of it and to stomp
on it and to flatten it out. Wow, to where it no longer exists. He can walk on top of it. What
did Jesus do there in the book of Matthew? When the people were
in the ship and they thought that they were gonna die because
of the winds and the waves and all that stuff, and Jesus came
doing what? Walking on the water. He came
walking on the water. He came walking on top of what
everybody thought was going to kill them. He came walking on
top of what everybody thought was, this is gonna be it, this
is the end. But then Jesus comes walking
on top of what they think is going to kill them. He was treading
it out. And he was showing his disciples,
listen, you ain't got nothing to worry about. What is one of
the things he said to him? There in the chapter, he tells
him, he says, listen, be of good comfort, be not afraid. It is
I. Be not afraid. So he says, here
in the text, the Bible says, For he it is that shall tread
down, you shall threaten, he shall abolish, he shall do away
with, he shall make it to where it is something that can never
come back and have any strength or power at all ever again. He
says he will tread it down. Lastly, for he it is that'll
tread down our enemies, our adversaries. And what of our adversaries tonight?
What are our adversaries? I mean, sometimes our adversaries
can be people. Sometimes our adversaries are
our sins. Sometimes our adversaries are things like, it can be fear. Sometimes our adversaries are
guilt. Sometimes our adversaries are
bitterness. Sometimes it's unforgiveness. Listen, it can be all these different
types of things. The adversaries that we face.
And God says, listen, I'm right here. I'm always present. I know
I'm right here. You own victory. Don't you count
on man. You just keep looking up to me.
Because it is through God you'll get victory. Now really, preacher,
think about this. When Peter began to sink, it's
because he took his eyes off of who? Took his eyes off the
Lord. But while he was focused on Christ,
what did he do? He walked on the water. The only
other person that ever did. Has anybody here ever walked
on water? No, nobody here has. But Peter
did because he was looking at Christ. And as long as he was
looking at Christ, he could walk on top of what he thought was
gonna kill him and the rest of them. But as soon as he took
his eyes off the Lord, he began to sink. And you know what he
said? Lord, save me. And the Lord Jesus reached down
and said, O ye of little faith. He says right here, And through
God we shall do valiantly for he it is that shall tread down
our enemies. And what of our enemies tonight? I mean, sometimes
our enemies are on the outside. Our enemies are outward, the
things that we face. Listen, it's a host of things on the
outside that we can face that we can call enemies here tonight.
But there's also a host of things on the inside that we can call
enemies. Things that are in our hearts.
Things that are in our minds. That can be enemies to us. That
we are fighting and doing everything we can to try to get victory
over. But really, how are we gonna
do it? It's gonna be through God. Through God we shall do
valiantly. For he it is that'll tread down
our enemies. Not himself. Not man or the world. but the God that he looked to,
the God that he prayed to, and he believed it with all that
he had. He said, we shall. We're gonna
do it. We're gonna make it, and it's
gonna be all right, and it's gonna be fine, because God's
gonna give us victory. That's good stuff. I was sitting
at the house the other day, I opened up my Bible, and I didn't even
look down at it, and I said, God, I need a word. And I just opened it up. I looked down, and the very first
verse I saw was verse 13. And I was looking at it, and
I said, I'm gonna preach out of that message. I'm gonna preach out
of that verse right there. And I sat there until the Lord
gave me all of it. And when I got done, I was so
thankful. I said, thank you, God, for showing me just how
good you are. Let's pray tonight. Father, we
thank you so much for this day. God, we're so thankful. Lord,
for your power and your presence. The assurance that we have in
your authority and what you can do to the things that we fight
and battle against. God that you have showed us so
we can have victory and we know and Philippians where you say
and show us and tell us the promise that I can do all things through
Christ and that greater is he that is in me and in Jeremiah
where you say, oh, is there anything too hard for God? Lord, the God that is all powerful
that can do all things. Lord, we pray for your presence
here in our lives. We pray for your presence here
in our church. and upon our people and all that we do here for you
here at Gospel Light. Lord, I pray that you would strengthen
us for this week and may we look back to these words in this verse
13. Lord, may it give us exactly
what we need in the times that we may be in. We love you and
we thank you for it all and this we pray in Jesus' name, amen.
