Ecclesiastes should be interpreted at face value (the Preacher’s words are all true). “Everything is futile” is not intended in an absolute sense, but refers specifically to the effort to control and understand wildcard providence. The solution is to simply trust God with providence and enjoy what He has given us. The ability to do that is not in our control and comes only as a gift from God.
