Zechariah 12 (Christ Whom They Pierced)
Series Zechariah
It would appear that Zechariah 12:1-9 has not been literally fulfilled in the scriptures or in history. But before we project these verses too far into the future, the verses following seem to intersect in time with our Lord's time on earth.
These following verses in Zechariah include: 12:10 - mourning for Him whom they had pierced; 13:1 - a fountain opened in Jerusalem for sin and uncleanness; 13:7 - strike the shepherd and the sheep will be scattered. These verses suggest that maybe the heavy stone in Zechariah 12:3 is the Rock of Ages and that the salvation of Judah and Jerusalem in 12:4-9 can be applied to God's people, the Church. The mourning for the pierced one likely happened at Pentecost when thousands of Jews who made up the early church were converted. That mourning served as a pledge that the events in Zechariah 12:4-9 would come true to God's people in a figurative way.
