I Have Overcome, Pt. 2

In the final verses of Chapter 16 of John's Gospel, Jesus rebuked the disciples for pretending they understood His "obscure utterances." As Don Carson put it, "No misunderstanding is more pathetic than that which thinks it no longer exists." Our comprehension of spiritual things requires a spiritual discernment, which can only come as the Spirit of God renews the heart and teaches the mind (1 Corinthians 2:10-16). That is why few professing Christians get anything out of the Bible. However, those who, enabled by the Holy Spirit, make Scripture their great interest find the truth and the great peace that comes even in tribulation. They are overcomers.
