Useless as Rotten Underwear

This is the confession of the harsh reality for the authentic believer... who attempts to function on his own understanding and strength, in a world he no longer fits in. The kingdom of the converted are simply outnumbered. They are a strange kingdom, functioning in a world that is densely populated with those that fit much better in this world system than they do. But sometimes these shortsighted and worldly minded people get the best of you.
Characteristically, the kingdom of the converted know who they are... and who they belong to, and where they are headed. But there are times when they get distracted, and misplace their priorities and lose sight of sweet joys of being part of God's kingdom. And when they do, because sometimes it happens, God graciously, and lovingly, and tenderly, and, at times, as needed, harshly, reminds them, again and again, who they are, and who they belong to, and where they are headed.
What was the message, the point of the illustration? His people, like the defiled and rotten underwear, had become unprofitable, or good for nothing eternally, and God was going to use the Babylonians to destroy Jerusalem and displace the people.
