Judgment on the Nations
Series The Doctrine of Sin
Israel's relationship with Egypt is complicated and extensive. The relationship that we are most familiar with and which runs throughout Scripture is that of oppressed and oppressor. As God displays His supreme power in delivering Israel out of Egypt, He keeps the covenant that He made with Abraham and foreshadows the salvation that He will bring about through Jesus Christ. The other relationship that comes up over and over again in Scripture is Egypt as false hope. As the empires of Assyria and then Babylon threaten Israel, the leaders of Israel often turn to Egypt as an economic, political, and military counterbalance. This sermon addresses the false hope of Egypt as a place of safety. Our hope must rest firmly in Jesus Christ, the heir to King David's throne and rule.
