What is the Mark of the Beast?

Sermon: Revelation 13:11-18

Introduction:

I. Who/what is represented by the beast from the earth?
A. It symbolizes false religion.

 1. It imitates the true.

 2.  It is involved in religious activity.

 3. cf. 16:13, 19:20, 20:10 – “false prophet”

B. Its goal is to deceive.

II. Whom does the beast deceive?
A. “those who dwell on the earth”

B. the application to Christians:

III. What is the mark/brand of the beast?
The speculation:

A.  A mark or brand indicated ownership  or allegiance.

B. significance of forehead and right hand:
