Distinguishing Between Holy and Unholy

After Nadab and Abihu are killed by God, then God spoke to Aaron alone for the first time and told him that he had responsibility to judge between the holy and the unholy, the clean and the unclean. He had the responsibility to teach the children of Israel the commandments given by Moses. Immediately following God speaking to Aaron, he then discerns between the clean and the unclean. Since Aaron and his sons had made the offerings, they were to eat them in a holy place. When Moses came to make sure that they had obeyed, he found that they had not eaten it. Instead, they had burned the sin offering, so Moses was angry. Aaron then explained that since God had killed his two sons, his heart was not right with God, so it would not have been acceptable to him. Aaron discerned that being holy was not an external thing, but a matter of the heart. Moses was satisfied with the explanation.
