One Judgment Seat

Paul shows that we are not meant to try and convince people that we are righteous by conforming ourselves to their ideas and standards for righteousness. We aren't only living in the sight and presence of men. It is the Lord's judgment seat and not men's that we live before. When the reality of living at all times in God's presence is kept before our eyes and we do not seek to suppress this in unrighteousness, then we will be driven to Christ and also to a life of self-sacrifice for the benefit of others. This is Paul's instruction in this verse.
