The wells of Baca

149

Of all the Psalms, surely this 84th Psalm is amongst the richest and most encouraging of them all. How it begins with the psalmist longing and yearning with all his heart for the presence of the living God in the tabernacle and courts of the Lord, and ends with the blessedness of the believer trusting in God.

The journey which led the Jews to Jerusalem for the feasts were often over very dry and desert lands. The way was often difficult and trying, and with very little rain. Along the way they would often dig holes in the dry sand to catch the small amonuts of rain which would fall. How this wonderfully illustrates the believer's pilgrimage through this barren world of sin in our efforts and desires to draw nigh to God.

That we might learn, by His grace, to make wells in our valleys of Baca (Weeping), as we seek to draw nigh to God.
