#07 - Will You Die Happy in Hope?

Genesis 23:1-20, 25:7-10

Introduction

• Genesis 12:1-3
• Abraham is old. Where are the promises?
  • He owns none if the promised land
  • He has only one son
  • Who has been blessed through him?

1. The first promise: "to a land that I will show you"

• 'Sarah died'
• Hebrews 11:15
• Abraham shows he believe the promises of God
• Abraham has to own the land where he buries Sarah. He believes that one day the land will be owned by his descendants
• Abraham pays for the field. He knows a gift of the cave isn't enough.
• The second promise is being fulfilled
  • Abraham, Isaac, Rebecca, Leah and Jacob are all buried there

2. The third promise - "in you, all the families of the earth shall be blessed"

• God's plan is fulfilled through Abraham
• Hebrews 11:9-10

3. Will you die happy?

• You will die
• You will die unfulfilled if desire is achievements in self
• You will only die happy if you trust in the Saviour who came through Abraham's line
• Hebrews 11:9-10, 13-16
  • Abraham realised the promises of God were for him, but not about him.
  • Nation and land were not important or where his hope was
  • He trusted in the Saviour to come
