Jesus Lord over the Power of Darkness

Theme: Despite personal betrayal, powerful enemies, and spiritual darkness, Jesus remains in control of every situation. In vv. 47-48, we see Judas's betrayal, and in application, we learn that we need to be careful about covering our sin. The only way we should seek to have our sin covered is by the blood of Christ. In vv. 49-50, we see the disciples' reaction. They ask Jesus a question, but do not wait for His answer. We see through this that we should be prayerful but not impetuous, otherwise we will just be leaning on our own wisdom and understanding. In v. 51 we see the compassion of Jesus to heal and care for a man who is lost. In vv. 52-53, Jesus speaks to the leaders and reveals their hypocrisy. Though Jesus was betrayed, and arrested and the hour of darkness had come, we see that all was according to God's plan, and Christ would overcome the darkness and be the victor so that we could be made righteous. We learn to not walk in fear of the darkness, but in the fear of the Lord because Jesus is in control of all.
