Walking in the Spirit

133

What is the key to living in freedom? It is learning to walk in the Spirit. But what is meant by 'walking in the Spirit?' It's not the same as being indwell, sealed, or baptized by the Spirit for all of these take place the moment we accept Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. But 'walking in the Spirit' is a moment-by-moment, step-by-step journey with God whereby we are submitting our intellect, emotion, and will to the control of the Holy Spirit, and living in obedience to Him. It is closely connected to the 'filling of the Spirit'. By doing so, we are led by the Spirit through life and do not fulfill the lust of the flesh. This does not mean that we will never struggle with the flesh or sin, for their is a constant conflict between the flesh and the Spirit. We do have the choice as to who we will obey, but we do not always obey the Spirit. But we can have victory in individual skirmishes and ultimate victory will be ours through Christ over the flesh and sin. But that will not take place until death. In the meantime, we must rely upon the power of the Spirit to live the Christian life! We must 'work out' while God 'works in". God is committed to us to provide everything we need for life and godliness; We must be diligent to add to our faith, follow and obey the Spirit. By doing so, we will be 'walking in the Spirit', and thus will not be fulfilling the lust of the flesh.
