Good morning, how are you? It's
nice to be with you. Thank you very much for having
me along. It's really nice to be here.
David and I have been down to the house a few times as mum
and dad, so it's nice to be with you. Thanks for having me. If
you have a Bible with you, would you mind turning to Hebrews chapter
1, please? Hebrews chapter 1, please. And just as you're turning to
the place today, we'll be looking a wee bit at angels today, so
we are. And although in the Bible there's
no real one passage that really looks at angels in depth in one
passage, this is perhaps the best chapter. So we're going
to read here, but throughout the message we'll be flicking
to other places. And if you just want to flick
about, you can, but there'll be a lot of flicking about and
I'll be reading out, so whatever you just want to do yourselves. So Hebrews chapter 1, please. God who at sundry times and in
diverse manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the
prophets hath in these last days spoken unto us by his son whom
he hath appointed heir of all things by whom Also he made the
worlds, who being the brightness of his glory, and the express
image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his
power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on
the right hand of the majesty on high. Being made so much better
than the angels, as he hath been heardens obtained a more excellent
name than they. For unto which of the angels
saith he at any time, Thou art my son, this day have I begotten
thee. And again, I will be unto him
a father, and he shall be to me a son. And again, when he
bringeth in the first begotten into the world, he saith, let
all the angels of God worship him. And of the angels he saith,
who maketh his angels spirits and his ministers a flame of
fire. But unto his son he saith, thy
throne, O God, is for ever and ever. A scepter of righteousness
is the scepter of thy kingdom. Thou hath loved righteousness
and hated iniquity. Therefore God, even thy God,
hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fathoms,
and thou Lord, in the beginning hath laid the foundation of the
earth, and the heavens are the works of thy hands. They shall
perish, but thy remainest, and they all shall wax old, as doth
a garment. And as a vesture shalt thy fold
them up, and they shall be changed. But thy art the same, and thy
years shall not fail. But unto which of the angels
saith he at any times, sit on my right hand until I make thine
enemies thy footstool? Are they not all ministering
spirits sent forth to minister for them who shall be the heirs
of salvation? Amen. God will bless the reading
of his word. Today, as I've said, we're going
to try and look at angels. The world is fascinated by angels.
Even in my job you hear sometimes people talking about angels and
there's movies and books and things all written about angels
and songs. There's pop stars sing about
angels and things like that. The world is fascinated by angels. But what does the Bible have
to say about them. We're not so interested in what
the world has to say but what does God say in his book about
them? But we can see here in this here passage that the first
thing we have to do is see that The Lord Jesus Christ is far
above the angels. We see that there in verse 4
in Hebrews chapter 1. In verse 4 it says being made
so much better than the angels. That's the purpose of this chapter.
The author is trying to tell the readers of this here that
don't be looking to the angels, be looking to the Lord Jesus
Christ because he's being made so much better than the angels.
He's so much better than them. Yeah, the angels, they're good.
They're good to look at and be interested in and to study about
them, but don't focus on them. Focus on the Lord Jesus Christ
because he is so much better than them. So that's the purpose
of this chapter. Now, yes, today we'll be looking
at the angels, but remember the Lord Jesus Christ is so much
better than the angels. and he should be the one that
we focus on. And we see that the author, right
through the chapter, although he speaks about the angels, he's
really trying to focus on the Lord Jesus Christ. He's trying
to point the people to the Lord Jesus Christ. We see this here
in verse two and three. We see seven wonderful things
about the Lord Jesus Christ in verses two and three. We see
he is the heir of all things. We see he made the worlds. He's
the brightness of his glory. He's the express image of his
person. He's a sustainer of all things.
Have you ever wondered why the universe is like it is? Like,
the sun, how does it not burn out? Like, it's a big ball of
fire, really. And for me, in my simple mind,
I sort of wonder how many bags of coal would have to keep that
thing going. But it never burns out. It just
keeps burning. How does the earth keep spinning?
Why doesn't it fly off its orbit into another planet? Well, the
answer's given here in this verse. The Lord Jesus Christ, he's the
sustainer of all things, and that's why everything just keeps
going. He's purged our sins, and he sat down at the right
hand of God. Seven wonderful things about
the Lord Jesus Christ, and can you see the author here of this
chapter? Isn't he really giving the Lord
Jesus Christ? He's giving him the big build up here, isn't he?
He's saying, look how great he is. Look at these seven wonderful
things. How wonderful he is. He's so
great. how wonderful he is and how we
should be focusing on him. Those seven wonderful things
and you could spend a long time just looking at those things.
And then throughout the rest of the chapter he points us to
other things that shows how great the Lord Jesus Christ is. He
gives us a great description of the Lord Jesus Christ and
says how wonderful he is. He gives the Lord Jesus Christ
the big build up for the readers and shows how great he really
is. Today we're going to look at
the angels and let's see how he describes them in verse 14. Are they not all ministering
spirits sent forth to minister for them who shall be the heirs
of salvation? He's not going up quite the same
ways here, is he not? He said, are they not? It doesn't
have the same effect. Are they not all ministering
spirits sent forth? So we can see right from the
outset that the Lord Jesus Christ is so much better than the angels.
And he should be really the focus of our attention. But we're looking
at the angels today. And first of all, how did the
angels start? Have they always been? Or were
they created? Or is there anything we know
about them from the Bible? Well, to see this here, you have
to turn to Psalm 148. Psalm 148, we can learn from
this about the angels' beginning. Or have they always been? We'll
see this in Psalm 148. Psalm 148. And it says in Psalm 148, praise ye
the Lord. Praise ye the Lord from heaven.
Praise him in the heights. Praise ye him, all his angels. Praise ye him, all his host. So you can see in verse two that
the angels are being told to praise God. They're being told
to praise God. Then just drop your eye to verse
five, because we've seen that it's talking, this is talking
about the angels. The angels are to praise God. What does
it say in verse five? Let them praise the name of the
Lord, for he commanded and they were created. So we can see that
the angels were created. haven't always been, they're
not like God who has always been. The angels were created, however
they were created, well it says there, for he commanded. and
they were created. Just God commanded and the angels
were created. So they had a beginning and God
created them. But is there a clue in the Bible
to let us know when they were created? Is there an idea in
the Bible? Well to see this here we have
to go to Job chapter 38. Job 38 I know there's a lot of flicking
about, if you just want to follow along that's okay, if not you
can just listen up. Job 38. Job chapter 38 verses 4 to 7,
we'll be reading Job 38 verses 4 to 7, we'll see, we'll get
an idea of when they were created. Job 38 verse 4. Where was thou when I laid the
foundations of the earth? Declare if thou hast understanding. So here right away we can see
what is happening. God is speaking to Job here.
And he's questioning Job and says, Job, where was thou when
I laid the foundations of the earth? He's saying, Job, where
were you when I created the earth? Then we'll read verse five. Who
hath laid the matters thereof, if thou knowest? For who hath
stretched the line upon it? Whereupon are the foundations
thereof fastened? Or who laid the cornerstone thereof?
When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted
for joy. And we can see here that God
is saying to Job, where were you when I created the earth?
Where were you when I created the earth? And then in verse
seven there he says, When, and then all the sons of God shouted
for joy. And the sons of God, that is
another name or title for the angels. And God is saying to
Job, look, where were you when I created the earth? And the
angels, all the sons of God, they shouted for joy when the
earth was created. So we can see right away here
that the angels had to have been created before God created the
earth. So we don't know exactly when they were created but we
know that they were created before the earth was created. And what
a blessing that must have been for the angels to see the power
of God. They were there in Genesis chapter
1 when God created the earth. They were there in Genesis chapter
1 when God made the birds and the animals and man. They saw
the power of God. They actually saw it, and they
were so amazed that they shouted for joy when they seen it. They
were in such wonder of God's power and might. They know how
almighty and how powerful he is because they were there and
they seen it. No, unfortunately, we weren't there, so we didn't
see it. Sometimes I think my daddy's
that old, and sometimes I think he was there, so I do that. But
we weren't there. we can read about it. We can
read Genesis chapter one and we can read about it and we can
try and picture it in our head, it might be hard for us, but
we can read about it. And we can see how almighty and how
powerful God is. And how big is our God, how big
is our heavenly father. That he's able just to speak
and things come into being. Like in Genesis chapter one,
it just says, let there be and there was. You know, today I
would love to be able to say, let there be a Ferrari. But I can't. Even if I could,
I couldn't afford the car insurance. I couldn't. But that's how powerful
God is. He can just speak and things
come into being. And you know, sometimes you face difficult
problems and sometimes you face trials and there's things that
weigh us down. And sometimes we can maybe think
to ourselves, there's nothing I can do about this. This is
too big for me. Too much of a challenge. But how much bigger is our God
than our problem or our care and our burden? How big is He?
And you know, in 1 Peter 5, verse 7, it just says, God just says in His word, look,
take your care, take your burden and cast it to Him. Cast it to
Him and leave it there at Him. My brother, he used to fish when
he was younger and I remember when he started he went out and
practised his cast. And all it is, is you're throwing
the line out there. And that's what God tells you
to do. Cast your burden over to Him and leave it with Him.
Our problem might be big, our burden, our care might be big,
but how much bigger is our God? He's the Almighty and He can
deal with it so He can. And leave it with Him and let
Him deal with it. So we've seen the creation of the angels, but
now we're gonna look at the comparison of the angels. How do we compare
to them? Or how do we match up to them? Well, look at Hebrews
chapter one, verse 14, if you still have your finger in the
place. Sorry, I should have said, keep your finger in Hebrews chapter
one, because throughout we'll be flicking back to this chapter. In Hebrews chapter one, Verse
14. It says in Hebrews chapter 1 verse
14, are they not all ministering spirits? So we can see straight
away, they're spirits. They're spirits, they're not
like us. They're invisible. We can't see them. But we know
from the Old Testament that they can appear in human flesh. Like
in Genesis chapter 19 verse 1, It says, and there came two angels
to Sodom of Eden, and Lot sat in the gate of Sodom, and Lot,
seeing them, rose up to meet them. So we can see two angels
came to Sodom, and Lot, he saw them, and he went to meet them.
And we know from reading down the rest of the chapter that
they appeared as men. So angels, although they're spirits
and they're invisible, at times in the Old Testament, they have
appeared in human flesh. So they have. But is there any
other interesting things we know about them? Well, I believe there's
something interesting we can learn about them in Mark chapter
12, verse 25. Mark 12, 25. And the Lord Jesus
Christ here is speaking about the great resurrection. He's
answering a question about it in Mark chapter 12, verse 25. Mark chapter 12 verse 25. For when they shall rise from
the dead, they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but
are as the angels which are in heaven. So Christ speaking about
the great resurrection says that after that there you'll not be
marrying and you'll not be given in marriage, you'll not be procreating.
And then he goes on just at the end to say, are as the angels
which are in heaven. So we can see here that the angels,
they don't marry and they don't procreate. So we've learned that
there about the angels. They don't marry and they don't
procreate. But how do we match up to them? Are they better than
us? Are we better than them? How
do we match up? Well, the answer we can see is in Hebrews again.
If you flip back to Hebrews, and this is actually in chapter
two, so it is. Hebrews chapter 2, and we'll look at verse 6
and 7. Hebrews chapter 2, verses 6 and
7. It says, but one in a certain
place testeth that, saying, what is man that thou art mindful
of him, or the son of man that thou visitest him? So we can
see the question in verse 6, what is man? So what is man? The answer is seen in verse 7.
Thou madest him a little lower than the angels. So can you see
that man is created a little lower than the angels. If this
is where the angels are, man is just a little lower than them.
Manus is just a little lower than the angels. The angels are
just a wee bit above us. But how is this? Why are the
angels just above us? Well, they're wiser than us.
You don't have to turn to these places here. We're just going
to look quickly at these verses. But they're wiser than us. They're
wiser than us. In 2 Samuel 14 verse 20, The people are praising Joab.
Joab has done a great thing, so he has, and this is what the
verse says in 2 Samuel 14 verse 20. To fetch about this foremost
speech, hath thy servant Joab done this thing? And my Lord
is wise according to the wisdom of an angel of God. So Joab has
done this great thing and the people are saying, you know,
Joab, he's so wise. Who would have thought of doing
such a thing? He's so wise, no one else would
have thought of that there. And what are they going to say?
You know, it's almost as if he's got the wisdom of an angel. He's
so wise, he's like got the wisdom of an angel. So we can see that
the people that praise Joab, they're saying he's got the wisdom
of an angel. And that must mean the angels are wiser than us.
They're wiser than us. Also, we see that they're greater
in power and might than us. We see this in 2 Peter 2, verse
11. It says, whereas angels, which
are greater in power and might. So angels are greater in power
and might than us. And as well, they speak a different
language. than us down here on earth. They
speak a different language. We know this from 1 Corinthians
chapter 13 verse 1 where it says, though I speak with the tongues
of men and of angels. So there's an angelic language
that we don't speak down here on earth. But we can see that we are a
little lower than the angels. They're greater in power and
might than us. They're wiser than us. But the thing is, we
may be a bit lower than them, but they're a lot lower than
the Lord Jesus Christ, who they are. We can see this in Hebrews
chapter 1 verse 6. It says, and again, when he bringeth
in the first begotten into the world, he saith, and let all
the angels of God worship him. Can you see what the angels have
to do? They might be above us, a little bit above us, but they
still have to worship the Lord Jesus Christ. They have to worship
him because he is so much greater than them. He is so much better
than them. And they have to worship the
Lord Jesus Christ. But that made me think about,
you know, if we're a little lower than the angels, But the angels,
they have to worship the Lord. They have to bow before him,
they have to worship him. It made me think, how much does
the Lord Jesus Christ love me? Now the angels, they have to
fall, they have to worship the Lord Jesus Christ, yet the Lord
Jesus Christ became a man, didn't he? He humbled himself and became
a man. He had to become lower than the
angels that worshipped him and become a man. He had to become
a little baby. His first bed was in a manger,
sure it was. An animal feeding through it.
How low did the Lord Jesus Christ have to humble himself to be
able to save us? He had to leave heaven, become
lower than the angels to make a way of salvation possible for
us. And it made me think, how much does he love us? How much
does he care for us that he was willing to do that? He knows there is no other way
of salvation for us. There's no way we could save
ourselves because of our sin. We have broken God's laws and
there is no way we could save ourselves but the Lord Jesus
Christ thought I love them enough that I'm going to become a little
lower than the angels. I'm going to become a baby. I'm
going to become a man and I'm going to go to the cross and
die for them so that I can save Simon Thompson, so that I can
save the world. Behold the Lamb of God which
taketh away the sin of the world. But you know, when he was on
the cross, I believe that Psalm 22 is a great prophetic psalm. Psalm 22 verse 6, what does it
say? But I am a worm and no man, our
approach of men and the spies of the people. And I believe
that is picturing the Lord Jesus Christ on the cross and he says,
but I am a worm a no man. Not only did he make himself
a little lower than the angels by becoming a man, when he was
on the cross he could say, I am a worm and no man. Our reproach
of men and the spite of the people, how low did he have to stoop?
And when we consider that there, where the angels had to worship
him, he made himself like a worm, a no-man. How low did he have
to stoop to purchase our salvation? Surely we can never question
the love that the Lord Jesus Christ has for us when we consider
the great things that he has done for us on the cross. He
loves you unmeasurably, you can't measure it. But we have seen
how the angels were created and we have seen how we compare to
them. But we're going to look at their
calling. The calling of the angels and we see this in Psalm 103.
Psalm 103 verses 20 and 21. Please keep your finger in Hebrews
there. We see the calling in Psalm 103 verses 20 and 21. Psalm
103 Verses 20 and 21. Bless ye the
Lord, ye his angels, that excel in strength, that do his commandments. Heartening unto the voice of
his word, bless ye the Lord, all ye his host, ye ministers
of his, that do his pleasure. You can see here in this here
verse that it describes the angels. And it says often, that do his
commandments. Can you see that the angels,
they obey God 100% of the time. They obey his commandments right
down to the T. And you know, this proves that
they love God, doesn't it? Because in John chapter 14, verse
15, the Lord Jesus Christ said, if you love me, keep my commandments. If you love me, keep my commandments.
And what do the angels do according to this verse that we've just
read? They do his commandments. And they are proven. that they
love God through their obedience. By the fact that they obey him
they are proving that they love God. And I wonder, does that
describe you? Can you say I'm a bit like the
angels and do God's commandments? That I prove that I love God
because I'm obeying him 100% and keeping his commandments?
You know in the New Testament God doesn't really say in the
New Testament, thou shalt x, y, and z. But he says, the Lord
Jesus Christ just said, if you love me, keep my commands. If you love me. Do you prove
that you love God by obeying him 100% of the time? You know,
we have just looked and seen how much the Lord Jesus Christ
loves us, that he is willing to lower or humble himself and
become a little lower than the angels. And when he was on the
cross, become a worm and no man. How much does he love you? But
I wonder, how much do you love God? How much do you love him?
He says, if you love me, keep my commandments. We need to take
time out to read God's word because this is how God tells us how
he wants us to live our lives. And if you're not reading this
book, if you're not studying it, well you don't know what
God wants you to do or you don't understand then how God wants
you to live your life. And many believers today, I know
especially people more my age, they don't really make time to
read the Bible or to study it and they don't know how God wants
them to live. And then how can they prove that they love God?
Because they don't know what God says and they don't know,
they can't keep God's commands, they can't obey him because they
don't know what he says. One of the foundations of the
first thing is to get into God's word, to read it and study it.
Because then you'll know how God wants you to live your life.
You know, someone once told me that the Bible, I think it's
called in the Prosthetics, I think, is basic instruction before life's
ending. And you know, it's simple, it's
not 100%, but I think it's very good. Bible, basic instruction
before life's ending. And this is God's basic instruction
for us as we live. And we need to get into the book
and to read it. to know how God wants us to live
our lives. But back to Psalm 103, in verse 21, it says, ye
ministers of his. That's how the angels are described,
they're ministers of his. In other words, they serve God. Simply they serve God, and believer,
do you serve God? It's a question that I have to
ask myself as well. Do you serve God like the angels? Because the angels are ministers
of his. But even if you just look at the word angel and look
into it, it simply means messenger of God. They're messengers for
God and they carry his messages. And right throughout the Bible
we can see that they carry God's messages. And you know, I wonder,
could you be described as an angel, a messenger of God? If you were to look at some of
the messages that the angels carried, just even in the New
Testament, We can see that in Luke chapter one that the angel
Gabriel came and told Mary that she was going to become pregnant
and that she was going to give birth to the Son of God. And
we can see the message the angel Gabriel told Mary then, that
the Lord Jesus Christ is the Son of God. What a message that
was, the angel Gabriel told. In Matthew, or sorry, in Luke
chapter two, and the angel announced the birth of the Lord Jesus Christ
to the shepherds. And how did they describe him?
They said he's the saviour, didn't they? They said he's the saviour.
What a message that was, that the Lord Jesus Christ, he's the
saviour. And then in Matthew chapter 28,
wasn't it, and the angel told the two Marys that the Lord Jesus
Christ, he's not in the tomb, because he's risen, he's come
back to life. What messages the angels carried. But you know
the thing is, You can carry those exact same messages today to
the people outside, to the people that you work with, to the people,
your neighbours, to your family. You can carry that same message
that the angels carried. You can tell them that the Lord
Jesus Christ is the Son of God, just like Gabriel told Mary.
You can be like the angel that spoke to the shepherds and said
that the Lord Jesus Christ, he's the saviour. He's the only way
that you can have salvation. He's the only saviour. And you
can also be like the angel Matthew chapter 28, it told the two Marys
that the Lord Jesus Christ, he's not in a tomb, he's risen, he's
alive today, he's a living saviour. And they can pray to him and
ask him to forgive them for their sins because he lives. But back
to Psalm 103, verse 21, and it says about the angels that do
his pleasure. And you can see the action of
the angels. It's to do the pleasure of the Lord, that's all they
want to do, they just want to please God Whatever pleases Him,
they'll do it. They're not so interested in
doing whatever suits themselves, they just want to please God.
And you know, I wonder, does that describe you? How do you
live your life? Are you living for the pleasures
of the world? Are you living to please someone else? Are you
living to please God? What describes you the best?
I wonder, is there something in your life that's maybe displeasing
to God? Well, if there is, need to really
try and sort it out and you know as we've seen earlier on that
God is our heavenly father and he loves us and he cares for
us and we can cast our burden and care upon him if there's
something in our lives that we're struggling with we can take it
to him in prayer he's our heavenly father he loves us and he cares
for us and he'll help us to sort out that thing in our life that
is bringing this pleasure to him he'll help us with it And
you know He'll help us to live for Him if we really try to. And you know it's when we live
to please the Lord that we find real fulfilment in life. See
there's a verse in Revelation chapter 4 verse 11 and it says
this, And for thy pleasure they are
and were created. We can see that the purpose we
were created for was for thy pleasure. It's for God's pleasure.
And when we're bringing pleasure to the Lord, we're fulfilling
our purpose. That's why we were made, to bring pleasure to God.
And when we're bringing pleasure to God, we're fulfilling our
purpose. The very reason why we were made.
So we've seen The angels, how they were created, we've seen
how we compare to them. We've seen the calling of the
angels. But quickly and finally, we're
going to look at the curve of the angels. The curve of the
angels. You know, quite often you hear people talking about
guardian angels. Is there such a thing? Well,
we're going to look at this here just quickly in closing. Hebrews
chapter one, verse 14. Again, please, if you still have
your finger, please, in Hebrews chapter one. Hebrews chapter
1 verse 14. And it says in Hebrews chapter
1 verse 14, are they not all ministering spirits sent forth
to minister for them who shall be the heirs of salvation? So
we can see that the angels again, they're described as minister.
In other words, they serve. But who are they serving in this
verse? It says heirs of salvation. So that means believers. born
again believers. They're ministers to the born
again believers. Now notice what it doesn't say.
It doesn't say that they're ministers unto everyone. No, it's just
to the heirs of salvation. They're not ministers unto unbelievers. They're not ministering unto
people who haven't put their trust in the Lord Jesus Christ.
It's just to the born again believers. If you've put your trust in the
Lord Jesus Christ, well then, this verse is describing the
angels as that they're ministering unto you. But remember, as we've
seen, they're spirits, so we can't see them. We mightn't realise
that they're actually ministering unto us. We mightn't see it.
We mightn't really notice it, but they're there. according
to this book, God's Word, and God says that they're ministering
unto us, even though we mightn't see it and even though we mightn't
notice it, they're ministering unto us. They're there. But do you know,
in the New Testament church, there did seem to be a belief
in guardian angels. There did seem to be a belief.
In Acts chapter 12, remember, Peter was in jail. He was in
jail and the church, the gather to gather, And they had a prayer
meeting. And they were praying for Peter.
They were praying their hearts out for him. They were praying
to God and bringing their burden before him. And remember what
happened. An angel then come and break
Peter out of jail. They broke him out. God answered
the prayer of the people and sent the angel to break him out.
The angel ministered on to Peter there, just as we've been looking
at. But what did Peter do when he broke out? Well, he went to
the church, didn't he? He went to the believers. He
went to where they gather together. And what did he do? He got to
the door and he knocked it. And who went to the door but
wee Rhoda. Rhoda went to the door and she
saw Peter and she was so excited that Peter was there. She actually
forgot to open the door, didn't she? She left him standing at
the door. She was so excited that Peter was there and she
ran back into the meeting and she said, Peter's at the door.
He's here. He's standing at the door there.
What did the people say? In Acts chapter 12 verse 15. Then said they, it is his angel. They said, no, no, no, you're
wrong. That's not Peter. That's his angel. And we can
see that there seemed to be a belief in guardian angels. They seemed
to think it was his guardian angel. They doubted that it was
Peter. Of course, it really was Peter.
But they believed it was his guardian angel. So in the New
Testament church, we can see that there was a belief in guardian
angels. But this should be no surprise to us, because we can
see it in the Old Testament. If you have a Bible, turn to
Psalm 91, please. Psalm 91 verse 11. Psalm 91 verse 11 please. Psalm 91 verse 11. And it says,
for he shall give his angels charge over thee to keep thee
in all thy ways. And we can maybe see, this is
maybe where the belief in guardian angels started, maybe from this
verse. Because God has said in his word that he shall give his
angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. But notice
what it says there. It says, give his angels, there's
an S there, it's plural. It's not a guardian angel, it's
angels, it's plural. And if you believe that you've
only one guardian angel, Maybe you're laying yourself out a
bit of a disservice because it's plural there. It's angels. And God in his word has said
that he has given his angels charge over thee to keep thee
in all thy ways. Now, that doesn't mean that you
should be jumping red lights and jumping off cliffs and things
like that there, because it just says to keep thee in thy way,
to keep thee in all thy ways. You're not to put them to the
test. You're not to put God to the test. But they're to keep
thee in all thy ways. Just as you're going about your
daily business, The angels are there looking over you to keep
you in all your ways. Isn't that wonderful to know?
That God occurs for you that much that He's given His angels
charge over you and they're just looking out for you. Not because
you're driving about down the road, they're looking out for
you and God is giving them that charge. It's nice to know that
God loves you enough to do that. It's a nice and comforting thing,
but as we said right from the start, we shouldn't be looking
to the angels. We shouldn't be looking to the angels, we should
be looking to God. And it is nice to know the angels are looking
out for us, but how much more wonderful is the promise given
in Hebrews chapter 13 verse 5. I will never leave thee, nor
forsake thee. It's nice to know that the angels
are there and they're giving charge over us and they're looking
out for us. But the thing is, they're not
all powerful, sure they're not. They're not almighty. They're
not the ones that created the universe. They're not. It's the
Lord Jesus Christ. It's God. And how much more wonderful
is it that we've been given that promise, I will never leave thee
nor forsake thee. That we have the almighty and
he says, I will never leave thee. I will never forsake thee. No
matter where you are, no matter what you're going through, I
am with you. How wonderful is that there? That God is with
us through everything. Yes the angels might be there
too, but how much more of a comfort is it knowing that the Almighty
is there. He is with us in everything. And you know he has promised
us in Philippians chapter 4 verse 13, I can do all things through
Christ which strengthens me. It's not the angels that strengthen
us, no, it's Christ. And no matter what we face, who
can do all things through Christ will strengthen us. He'll help
us through. He'll give us the grace to get through it and he'll
strengthen us to be able to do whatever it is. Whatever we're
facing, whatever circumstance it is, he'll get us through because
Christ strengthened us. And you know, he'll supply all
our need. Philippians chapter four, verse 19, but my God shall
supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ
Jesus. It's not all our greed that he's
supplying, it's all our need. And He'll supply all that need
and what a comfort that is. But who's it by? It's according
to His riches and glory by Christ Jesus. It's not the angels. It's
Christ Jesus. And what a saviour He is. He
strengthens us. He supplies all our need. And
He's with us. He'll never leave us nor forsake
us. What blessings those things are. How much does He love us?
That He is willing to make Himself a little lower than the angels.
And eventually when He's on the cross He could say, I am a woman,
no man. We can see the love that he has for us and he redeemed
us. He purchased our salvation. He rose again from the dead.
Today he lives. all these great promises are there to comfort
us. I hope that as we've been looking at the angels you've
seen that we've really been looking at the Lord Jesus Christ and
what a comfort that is. But we're going to close our
meeting with a hymn from, I don't know the name of the hymn but
it's the wee one there, sorry the wee blue one and it's three
hundred and six
