Good morning, Mission Boulevard. I want to talk to you today about mayonnaise and mustard. And I'm curious, when I say I'm going to talk to you about mayonnaise and mustard, what comes to your mind? Hot dogs? What was it? Burgers? OK. Food? Anybody not thinking of food-related things when I say mayonnaise and mustard? Laura, what are you thinking about? Sounds. OK I'm not on insta enough apparently but it's something popular on insta OK. We can we can discuss that later or you can catch me up. I appreciate that. Brother Mitch, his second guess was more correct, but you can't tell everybody yet what your second guess was. Okay, so my family and I took a little trip last weekend. It was our last time to all be together and have a weekend that we could do something before Trinity goes off to college. So we decided we'd do a quick trip, and we headed down to Hot Springs. I had never been to Hot Springs, which is probably the first problem. because we started driving late at night, and there's an easy way to get to Hot Springs. Really easy way. Also the quickest way because we have these nice interstates now that go places. My phone did not tell me to go the nice, easy, quickest route. For some reason, the settings on it were messed up, and it wanted me to go what it said was the most fuel-efficient route. So the most fuel-efficient route took me through a bunch of towns in Arkansas that even I cannot name. And I travel all the time for work in Arkansas. And it was as we were passing through one of these little towns that these red and blue flashing lights turned on behind me. And I thought, now listen, I'm not exactly a rule follower all the time, but I'm pretty good about the five over rule. I stay under that five. I feel like that's a good range for me. So I didn't think I was speeding excessively. So I pulled over thinking, what did I do wrong? And the policeman comes up to my window and he says, sir, you swerved a little bit on the road back there. And I'm just checking to make sure that everything's okay. And so he took my license and registration and checked all that out and came back and everything checked out. I'm good to go. All of my stuff is up to date, thanks to my wife mostly. But he came back to the window and he told me, he said, all right, sir, you're good to go, but keep it between the mayonnaise and the mustard. And then he walked off, and that was the interaction that I had with this nice gentleman. And it took me just a few seconds to figure out what he meant, and then I got it, and I was like, okay, all right. And I didn't feel as bad because as we started to pull out, my kids were like, what? So what he was intending, for those of you who haven't caught on yet, is for me to stay between the yellow and the white lines on the road there. Yeah, so the mustard, the yellow line here, and the mayonnaise, the white line. I'd never heard it put quite like that, but it made sense once I thought through it a little bit. And the spiritual application of that jumped out at me immediately. And there is a set of verses here in Proverbs chapter four that we're going to read. Proverbs chapter four, starting in verse 23. It says, keep thy heart with all diligence, for out of it are the issues of life. Put away from thee a fraud mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee. Let thine eyes look right on, let thine eyelids look straight before thee. Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established. Turn not to the right hand, nor to the left. Remove thy foot from evil. This was the general idea that popped out to me right away was we have some pretty clear mayonnaise and mustard laid out for us. If you are paying any attention to what the scripture says, you can find scriptures that tell you where you're supposed to stay and some pretty clear defined lines for where you're not supposed to go. You're supposed to stay between the mayonnaise and the mustard here, which is a great thought, but let me tell you what happened for the entire rest of our trip that night. I'm driving along here, and every few minutes or so, somebody will yell, uh, mustard, mayonnaise, from the back seat. just alerting me to the fact that I am, in their opinion, too close to one side or the other. Which, as you can imagine, was not my favorite thing in the world. But it was a great reminder, as I'm going along, that I need to be very careful about where I'm going here, especially with some of these small towns in Arkansas. I need to be in the ideal spot so that nobody else decides to pull me over for not being between the mayonnaise and the mustard. But I thought, spiritually, that is also so important for us. You need some annoying kids in the back of your car shouting out mayonnaise and mustard every few hundred yards. You really do. And if you're at a spot in your life where nobody's yelled out at you in a while, you're in a bad spot. Because that doesn't mean that you're perfect. Let me disabuse you of that notion right away. Because if you're not getting anybody telling you that you've done something wrong, it is not because you've done nothing wrong. It is because you don't have anybody who respects and loves you enough to tell you that you've done wrong and that you need to get yourself back in between the mayonnaise and the mustard. So think about in your life, who do you have that's in your backseat yelling at you? And if you've thrown everybody out of your car because they yell at you for that, you need to re-examine. You need to pull over past the mayonnaise for a minute, Let the kids get back in the car so they can yell at you some more. Because I would much rather have somebody yelling at me to stay in the right spot than to be careening off into the boundaries of evil here. So think about today, are you between the mayonnaise and the mustard? And when was the last time somebody yelled at you for it? Because that's what you really need in your life, is somebody who's willing to do that for you. Amen.
