Test the spirits

Modern scientific thinking today is that all psychological and physiological illnesses have natural causes: chemical imbalances, viruses, bacteria or breakdown of organs, etc. They totally discount the spiritual aspect. Others in Christian circles see a demon behind every illness, such as a 'demon of cancer' or 'demon of lust'. Jesus, however, differentiates between illnesses and diseases that had a psychological or physiological cause, and those caused by demonic infiltration. But how do we know if a person's problem can be traced to psychological or physiological causes, or whether they are demonically caused? We need to know how to 'test the spirits'. To do so, we must rely upon the Spirit of God to give us discernment in these matters. From Scripture we know Satan's schemes and goals. We have the still small voice of the Spirit within to guide us. We can also recognize the symptoms of demonic infiltration from God's Word that helps us identify the true source.
