Mortification Chapt. 13 - Don't Speak Peace To Yourselves, Let God Speak It

Just as it is God's work to create peace for whom He pleases, it is Christ's prerogative to communicate it to the conscience. Speaking to the church of Laodicea, who had healed her wounds falsely, telling herself to have peace over her sins when she should not have, Christ takes up the title, "I am the Amen, the faithful Witness," Revelation 3:14. He bears witness about our condition as it truly is. We might mistake our condition, and trouble ourselves needlessly over sin that has been forgiven, or else flatter ourselves on false grounds. But He is the "Amen, the faithful Witness." Whatever he says our condition is, that is what it truly is.
