Christ's Church Triumphant
Transcript of the segment on the Devil, Death and Christ’s Victory
The [author] of Hebrews explains why Jesus came in the flesh. “Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity, so that by his death, he might destroy him who has the power of death, that is the devil, and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death. Satan’s hold on the power of death is in inducing people to sin and come under the penalty of sin, which is death.” “The soul who sins is the one who will die,” we are told in Ezekiel 18. So Jesus came to give us abundant life. (John 10) Not to escape a meaningless life of suffering as Buddhism seeks, no, in him is eternal life. So he triumphs over Satan by giving us eternal life that will never be taken away from those he loves. No one can snatch us out of Jesus’ hands. In this life, we will continue to struggle in our battle with Satan and his legions, because his demise will not be complete until the end of the age, when Jesus returns in triumph and glory.
