the book of 2 Kings here this
morning. 2 Kings, gonna take a look at
chapter 11. 2 Kings chapter 11. And we're gonna begin there in
verse 1 here in just a couple of moments. 2 Kings chapter 11.
I have entitled this message Crown a New King. Crown a New
King, 2 Kings chapter 11. We'll begin there in verse 1.
Here in just a couple of moments as you're finding your way there,
we're gonna be talking about a lady by the name of Thank you
talking to talking about a lady by the name of Athelia, and I'll
tell you what what a What a person she was she's a good representation
of a good number of different things evil of course Athelia
was the daughter of King Ahab and Jezebel just a wicked, wicked
woman. She would be, she was in essence
almost a spitting image of her mother and her father. She was
the only woman to ever sit on the throne of David. She was
a servant of Baal, a worshiper of Baal, of course, just like
her parents. Her son was killed by Jehu. And there was a lot
that was going on before we get to chapter 11 where we see her
actually take the throne. And so what I found as I was
going through this, we can see that Athelia is a great representation
of sin. She's a great representation
of Satan himself. And as we think about that, as
we go through the verses here this morning, I pray that it
be a blessing to you. Now we understand the devil likes
to work. And when things are confusing,
when things are in turmoil, you know, whenever life is tumultuous,
you know, when things are difficult, you know, the devil also likes
to add to that confusion. And when things are confused
already, the devil likes to compound that and make it that much even
worse. And Athelia was one of those ladies as well. She was,
as I said, great representation of sin a good representation
of the devil also now when we think about the things that she's
ditched I mean she was she was a power-hungry woman just like
her mother Jezebel she was an evil wicked person as I said
served in essence really worship demons a deceiver she was a murderer
a destroyer she was religiously and morally corrupt filled with
envy and pride and All these different things, the same things
that we would in essence really think of what the devil would
be like and what he is full of. She in essence really, even as
the Lord Jesus said about the devil, that the devil came to
kill, steal, and destroy. She in essence had really done
a lot of the same thing. She had come to steal the throne
of David. She had come to destroy the house
of God and all that was there. She came to destroy all the royal
seed. She was there to kill anybody
that was in her way. And so the devil, in essence,
is really the same thing, and sin destroys everything that
it touches. And so we can see a good representation
of what this woman is all about, an evil, wicked woman. And in
the midst of all the things that was going on prior to this chapter
right here, as I said, Jehu on the scene, and her son gets killed. And in the midst of all of this,
what she decides to do, in the midst of all of this confusion,
in the midst of all of the turmoil, is she decides to do the one
thing that the devil, of course, loves to do, and that is to invade
and take control. And that is what Atheliah did.
And in the midst of it all, we get to chapter 11, take a look
at verse 1. The Bible says that when Atheliah, the mother of
Ahazaz, saw that her son was dead, she arose and destroyed
all the seed royal. Now, did you know that all the
seed royal were her grandkids? Exactly right. She didn't have,
she wasn't worried about who she had to destroy to get out
of her way. She wasn't worried about who she had to kill to
get out of her way. Her son had been slain by Jehu
and she wanted the throne and it made no difference whatsoever
what she had to do to get into power. Didn't matter who they
were. Didn't matter how young they were. If they were in her
way, she was going to destroy them. And that's exactly what
Atheliah did. And so she came in, in the midst
of the turmoil and confusion, as the devil does, and she comes
in and she destroys and kills all the seed royal. We get to verse two, the Bible
says, but Jehoshibah, the daughter of the king Jehoram, sister of
Ahazei, took Joash. the son of Ahasei, and stole
him from among the king's sons which were slain, and they hid
him, even him and his nurse in the bedchamber, from Ophelia,
so that he was not slain. And so in the midst of this rampage,
in the midst of all that was going on, we see Atheliah, she
comes in, she desires control, she desires power, and so she
comes in and she begins to destroy everybody in her path, destroys
everything and everybody in her way so that she can ascend to
the throne and put the crown of David, in essence, on her
head. And as she goes through, notice
the Bible says that in the midst of the massacre that was taking
place, in the midst of all of the confusion, in the midst of
all the chaos, there was a woman by the name of Jehoshibah, the
daughter of the king Jehoram. The Bible says the sister of
Ahaziah took a little boy by the name of Joash, this little
baby there, took Joash in the midst of all the confusion, in
the midst of everybody being massacred and killed, Jehoshibah
runs in and she grabs this little baby and she flees and takes
off. runs to the house of the Lord.
And when she gets to the house of the Lord, the Bible tells
us there in verse two that him and the nurse, they hid in the
bedchamber from Atheliah so that he was not slain. What I enjoy
about this text is, of course, we think about Athelia and we
think about what her name means. Now, Athelia, her name means,
as she is a good picture of sin and Satan, her name means to
one who is, as I said, a picture of sin and Satan, we see that
her name has the idea of one that is afflicted by God and
also slash God is exalted. And I began to wonder why her
name was kind of both of those sayings that was kind of confusing
on which one that it would be. Those very two things. A woman
who is afflicted by God, but also means God is exalted. And
I began to wonder what this is all about. Well, it seems like
when you read through this whole story, you see that she was a
woman who was afflicted by God. God did judge her. God did bring
judgment upon her. But at the same time, God was
exalted. And you see that happen throughout
this story. And not only that, but we see
what her name means, but you get down to Joash. Joash, his name means the fire
of Yahweh. The fire of Yahweh. And in the
midst of everything that's going on, we can see that this little
child as he is hid away in the chamber, we can see this little
child in the fire of Yahweh that is there, that is waiting fire,
representing judgment. And in the scriptures we also
see another name, right there in verse two, by Jehoshibah. Jehoshibah means Jehovah's oath. It means Jehovah's oath. What
I find remarkable about all of this is you see the devil for
a long time had been doing everything he could to destroy God's people.
And ever since there in the book of Genesis when God himself,
whenever he was speaking to Adam and Eve and he told them that
there would be a son that was born that would crush the head
of the serpent, but at the same time would bruise his heel. From
that moment forward, the devil did everything he could to keep
the son of man from coming. And all throughout the scriptures
we see that the devil is doing everything he can to keep the
Lord Jesus from coming on the scene because he was told there
in the Garden of Eden, told right there that the Son of God would
come and that he would give victory to mankind. And so from that
moment all the way through, we see the devil doing everything
he could to keep the Son of Man from coming. But what I like
about this is even though the devil maybe at this point thought
that he had won, just like at some other places, you know,
listen, just in our lives, sometimes the devil in the midst of chaos,
in the midst of turmoil in our life, he comes in to try to make
things worse, and here we see Athelia, she comes in, this picture
of sin, this picture of Satan, coming in when things are bad
and aren't looking good, and she comes right in, and as she's
there, she begins to wreak havoc in their lives and ruin everything
that's around. But here in the midst of it all,
we see Jehoshibah. Jehoshibah who steps in on the
scene, Jehovah's oath in the midst of everything looking bad,
we see Jehovah's oath. What does that mean? In essence,
God's promise. Well, God's promise for what?
Well, we see that she destroyed everybody except Joash. She thought
that everybody was dead. And Joash was the only one that
was left that would carry on this seed and it would be out
of Joash, this one little boy right here, that the Lord Jesus
would descend from. And so there at one time in history,
we see that everything come down to this one little boy, Joash. and Jehosheba, whose name means
God's promise, God's oath. You know what that is? It's the
Davidic covenant. When God told David, he says,
of your kingdom there shall be no man, and was talking about
how the Messiah would come and sit on the throne of David, and
so it all boiled down to this one little boy right here. The
devil maybe perhaps had thought he had won, he had got it all
the way down to this, to annihilating everybody using Atheliah, to
wipe everybody out and the devil thought perhaps that he had won.
But old Tukta the here to this side off into a little bedchamber
in the house of God was the nurse and was little baby Joash who
was growing and growing and growing and she had no idea what was
happening. I tell you what, the devil likes
to come into our lives and sin comes in our life in the same
way as I say it oftentimes in the midst of confusion and chaos
and comes in and destroys everything that's around us and taints our
lives and destroys parts of our lives. And we can see there in
verse one that Ophelia, she had no mercy. She didn't care who
was around, she didn't care who it was, but she came in and destroyed
all the seed royal, even her own grandchildren. Listen, let
me tell you something, the devil doesn't care here this morning
who you are, he don't care about your kids, he don't care about
your grandkids, and listen, he don't care about your life, listen,
he cares less about any of those types of things. All he desires
to do is just like sin, and the devil is to come into your life
and wreak havoc and make the most ruin out of it as he possibly
can, and that's exactly what happened right here. There in
verse two, Jehoshibah, the daughter of the king, The first truth
is concealed, concealed the king. You know what, Austin, as we
apply this to our life, we saved here this morning, let's understand
something. The devil in sin, whenever we
get off into sin, the devil likes us, would love for us to do everything
we can just to kind of conceal the king away. just to kind of
hide him away in our life and nobody know about it. You know,
if you read on down, you'll see, you'll see there in verse three,
the Bible says that, and he was with her, he hid in the house
of the Lord six years. So for six years, Athelia ruled
and reigned on the throne. for six years. And six is a symbol
of what? Numerology. It is a symbol of
sin. It is a symbol of human weakness.
It is a symbol of evil as well. And so for six years, she was
the epitome. She was the fulfillment of wickedness
and sin. And so we can see right here
in the text that he was hid away for six years. When we think about our Christian
lives here this morning, listen, I'm just trying to get you to
see, by way of application, that listen, the devil would love
nothing more than for us to, in the midst of confusion and
chaos and turmoil in our life, and things ain't going good,
that we would just hide the king off to the side, that we would
just keep him in a little chamber over here, because listen, the
more that we tolerate sin in our life, and the more that we
allow it to come to the forefront, listen, as long as you keep the
king tucked away, Sin will do everything it can to keep ruling
and reigning in your life. and do everything it can. Listen,
sin doesn't mind being out in the forefront. It don't mind
everybody looking at it and sinning. Sin don't mind taking control
and taking charge. It don't mind ruining everybody's
life. It could care less about any of those things. And as long
as a people, as long as we as a people decide to hide sin in
our heart and not rebuke sin and turn away from sin, as long
as we keep the king tucked away in some little bedchamber over
here somewhere, and we just let the devil have the rule and reign
in our life, then what's gonna happen is, is we're gonna see
ruin and destruction in our life and all around us. And as long
as the king is just tucked away, as long as he's just set off
to the side, sin doesn't mind ruining and reigning. And Atheliah
was just like that. She didn't mind ruling and reigning
in their lives. She didn't mind being the ruler
of the kingdom because that's what she desired. That's, that
is exactly what she wanted. And there in verse three, the
Bible says that the king, he was hidden in the house of the
Lord for six years and Athelia did reign over the land. So I
got to ask you this morning, as we look at as we look at Athelia
as a picture of sin, as we look at her as a picture of Satan
as well, all together, we think about all lumped up in together,
the Athelias of our life. If we allow them to rule and
reign, they certainly will. Listen, there's gonna have to
be at some point, at some time in our life, we're gonna have
to say, you know what? I'm tired of the aphelios in my life, drooling
and raining. I'm tired of this having control
of me. I'm tired of this having control of me. I'm tired of my
God just being set off to the side. Here, listen, I need to
let him shine in my life and I need to be the man and woman
of God that God needs me to be Listen, Athiliah will come in,
sin will come in, no matter what it is, you just name it, you
just call out whatever that Athiliah is in your life, it is a host
of different things, and that sin will come in, it'll put a
crown on its head, and it'll rule and reign there on that
throne and bring ruin and destruction to you and everybody around you.
Everybody. As long as you keep the king
tucked away, Athiliah's gonna rule. There has to come a moment,
there has to come a time that we say within ourselves, you
know what, I'm tired of Athelia ruling and reigning in my life.
I'm tired of this sin ruling and reigning in my life. And
there came one day, there in verse two, so we can see the,
number one, we can see the concealment. We can see the concealment, but
number two, let's take a look at this. We can see the confession.
Watch what happens there. Watch what happens there in verse
two. You see, eventually what happened is, is during the six-year
period, man, people, they started getting tired. Can you only imagine
as, can you only imagine Athiliah ruling and reigning six years?
Everything is destroyed. Everything is terrible. And Jehoiada,
the priest, and the nurse, Jehu Sheba, has this little boy tucked
away. And for six years, while all
of this stuff is going on, they're just looking at Joash and they're
just thinking, oh Lord, one of these days we're gonna bring
him out. one of these days we're gonna bring him out, one of these
days we're gonna introduce him to everybody, one of these days
we're gonna bring him out, and listen, during that time they
may have been trying to nurture him and grow him and strengthen
him and teach him, and that is very possible, but listen, I
think also we do have to understand that the longer that we keep
the king tucked away, the longer that Ophelia is gonna have the
rule and reign in our life. And so there has to come a moment
where we, as God's people say, I'm not gonna keep the king tucked
away any longer. I'm gonna bring him out. I want
everybody to see him. He's gonna be on the throne of
my life and he's gonna wear the crown on his head and I'm gonna
destroy Ophelia. At some point we have to say
that. And that's exactly That's exactly what happened. We get
down here to the next verse, take a look there at verse three.
The Bible says there in verse, I'm sorry, there in verse four,
the Bible says, in the seventh year, isn't that something? Number
seven, see, numbers mean something. In the seventh year, at the number
of completion, the seventh year, Jehoiada, his name means Yahweh
knows. Aren't you glad God knows everything?
Aren't you glad God knows everything that there is to know? I tell
you what I sure am, and there in verse four we see the Bible
says, in the seventh year, Jehoadai sent and fetched the rulers over
hundreds with captains and the guard and brought them to him
in the house of the Lord and made a covenant with him and
took an oath of them in the house of the Lord. Watch this now,
and showed them the king's son. You see, there came a point during
this six-year period where they got tired of tucking the king
away, and as things got worse and worse and worse, they begin
to realize, hey, now is the time. We gotta let the king out. We
gotta show everybody to the king. Listen, I don't wanna conceal
the king any longer. Listen, God's people, you're
sitting here saved this morning. Let's go conceal the king. Let's
bring him out. Let's let everybody see him.
Let's let everybody know who he is and the love that he has
and the grace and the forgiveness and long-suffering that he offers
to every single one of us and to everybody who chooses to believe.
Let's don't keep the king just tucked away in a little bedchamber,
but let's bring him out and let everybody see who he is. And
that's what they did. There came this moment where
they got tired and they said, you know what, six years is enough.
And so on that seventh year, they brought out Jehoiada. They
didn't conceal it any longer, and so we can see the confession.
And the confession was there in the latter part of verse four,
that they showed them the king's son. Listen, I tell you what,
can you imagine what a blessing it was when they saw Joash come
out? They had no idea the king was even there. For seven years,
they had no idea that Joash was hit off to the side. They had
no idea, they had no clue. And on that seventh year, Jehoiada
the priest comes out and he says, man, I got something to show
you guys. You ever heard that, you ever
seen that Gomer Powell long time ago when he says, surprise, surprise,
surprise. Listen, that's what it was. Hey,
y'all see what I got. Look what I got right here. Oh,
I got the king over here, he's been tucked away. But we're gonna
bring him out now. We're not gonna just leave him
tucked over to the side, but we're gonna show him to everybody.
We're gonna let everybody know who the king is. Let my dear
say, dear Christian, I think it's high time that we let all
the people see that who God is and we show him who God is. to
everybody, that we don't just conceal the king in a bedchamber
of our heart, and that we don't just hide him off to the side
that nobody can see. No, we wanna represent the Lord
Jesus. We wanna be the salt of the earth, and we wanna be the
light of the world, and the city that is set on the hill that
cannot be hid. Listen, that's what we wanna
be, so that everybody can see, and that's exactly what they
did right here. But there has to come a moment, there has to
come a time when you say within yourself, I'm tired. and things going the way they're
going. I'm tired of the sin. I'm tired of the ruin. I'm tired
of the destruction. We look around, I guarantee it,
even in this church and churches all around us and the world over,
people that are tired. People that are tired of what
sin does, they're tired of what sin is causing, they're tired
of all the effects and all the things that you have to do, having
to deal with the effects of sin. Because listen, the Bible says
no man lives for himself and no man dies for himself, so the
thought that I'll just sin on my own, listen, that don't just
affect you, your sin affects everybody. The Bible says one
sinner destroyeth much good. Listen, whenever Adam and Eve
reached up and they took a bite out of that fruit, look what
happened today. Their sin affected us all. And see, theirs does
and yours does too. And mine does too. One sinner
destroyeth much good. And listen, I'm just telling
you this morning, there is so much stuff that's going around
in Athelia. All the Athelias of this world, they are ruling
and reigning in hearts all across America today. And even folks
that are saved, they're on their way to heaven, but for whatever
reason, they backslid on God and they've allowed sin to come
into their life. And the Lord Jesus that used
to sit on that throne, Now he is just kind of tucked away on
the side over here. He's no longer on the throne.
He no longer has on the crown because we've allowed Atheliah
to come in and resume that place and to rule and reign in our
life. Let's don't conceal the king any longer. Let's don't
conceal the son any longer. But let's bring him out. I heard,
I think it was, maybe Dave Ramsey said one time a long time ago
get sick and tired of being sick and tired. You ever been sick
and tired of being sick and tired? I know I have been. We get sick
and tired of being sick and tired, and I tell you, as I said, we
see the devil just running rampant, we see the effects of sin and
what all it's causing, and we look around the world today,
we see everything that's going on, and I'm telling you, as God's
people, we have to say within ourselves, listen, I can no longer
conceal the king, but I've got to confess him, I've got to let
him go, I've got to get him out, I need to let everybody see who
he is, and that's what happened there in verse four. The Bible
says in the seventh year, Jehoiada, sin and fetch the rulers. Latter part of verse four, the
Bible says, they showed them the king's son. Can you imagine
the excitement of those men when they saw the king's son? Had
no idea that he was around, but now all of a sudden, boom, there
he is. Look, I got a surprise for you.
The king's been tucked away. The king's alive, the king's
not dead. Hey, praise the Lord, the Lord Jesus is the same way.
They thought they killed the Lord Jesus, but then three days
later, he rose again. Let everybody know that he was
still around, right? Man, praise God for that. Jehoash
and the Lord Jesus, I can see in many similarities are kind
of the same way. You know, Jehoash was kind of
hid away. and he was just waitin' for that
time to come out, just waitin' for that moment, and I kinda
see the Lord Jesus the same way. He's seated at the right hand
of the Father, and he's just like, I'm just waitin' to go back and get
my people. I'm just waitin' for everybody to see it, but you
know what? But before that day comes, why don't we be the people
that shows everybody Jesus? Why don't we be the people that
confesses Christ to everyone? Why don't we be the one that
is the light? The Bible says there in the text,
there in verse four, he showed them the king's son. And only
imagine the excitement, as I said, they probably had. I imagine
the same excitement as hundreds of folks that I've seen during
the Arise conference of the people that got saved. and the people
that were crying, and the people that had their hands up in the
air, and all the lives that were changed, and the people that
were saved, and just how God dealt with everybody there at
the Arise Youth Conference, and I imagine is still even doing
so this morning. And I'm just trying to get you
to see that, listen, whenever we bring the king out, it don't
just affect us, but it excites everybody. Amen. Man, bring the
king out. Let's don't conceal him. Let's
let everybody know the power of God and who God is. Let's
don't conceal him, but let's confess him. Let's show him off.
Let's show him out because we got a lot to brag about as God's
people. Man, we look back in our life and we think about,
we think about all the things that God has brought us through
and the things that God has done for us. How can we not shout?
How can we not praise? How can we not lift up our hands
in holy thanks? The Bible says there in verse
four, they showed the king's son. And he commended them saying,
this is the thing that you shall do. A third part of you enter
in on the Sabbath and shall even be keepers of the watch of the
king's house. And a third part shall be at
the gate of Sir. And a third part at the gate
behind the guard. So shall you keep watch of the
house that it not be broken down. And the two parts of all of you
that go forth on the Sabbath, even they shall keep the watch
of the house of the Lord about the king. and you shall can pass
the king round about. Every man with his weapons in
his hand. And he that cometh within the ranges, let him be
slain. And be ye with the king as he
goeth out and as he cometh in. I tell you what, when you abide
by the king and you go out as he goes out and you come in as
he comes in, you're in the safest place you could ever possibly
be. The Bible says, and the captains over the hundreds did according
to all the things that Jehoiada the priest commanded. And they
took every man his men, and when they were come in on the Sabbath
with them, that they should go out on the Sabbath, and came
Jehoiada the priest. And to the captains over hundreds
did the priests give King David's spears and shields that were
in the temple of the Lord. And the guards stood every man
with his weapons in his hand round about the king. From the
right corner of the temple to the left corner of the temple,
along by the altar and the temple. Now we get to number three, the
third truth is, let's don't conceal him, let's confess him. And after
we confess him, let's do number three, let's crown him. The Bible
says there in verse 12, we can see Athelias, she came in to
assert the throne and took the crown for herself, not knowing,
not knowing that the king was tucked away. When we get down
here to this verse, in verse 12, the Bible says, and he brought
the king's son. Watch this now. He brought the
king's son, they bring the child out, and they're marching him
there through the temple, and they're bringing him there, he's
in the house of God, and they're bringing him through, and the
Bible says there in verse 12, the Bible says he brought the
king's son, watch this now, and he put the crown upon him, gave
him the testimony, and they made him king, and anointed him, and
they clapped their hands and said, God saved the king. And there in verse 12, we can
see one of the things that they did is they brought him out,
they crowned him. Let me ask you this morning, are we gonna
continue to conceal the king today, or are we gonna confess
him and show him to everybody? Because listen, if we're gonna
do that, then one of the things we need to do is, is we need
to make sure that we crown the new king. that we declare to
the world and we declare to ourself that all the aphelios of this
world and all the sins of this world, regardless of what it
is, I'm not gonna let it have control of my life, but greater
is he that is in me than he that is in this world and that I can
do all things through Christ which strengthens me and that
we allow the Lord Jesus with the power of the Holy Spirit
to live through us and help us to battle and help us to fight
and be the men and women of God that we need to be and there
in verse 12, They brought out the king's son and they placed
the crown upon him. We asked you this this morning,
are you gonna put the crown where it's supposed to be? Are you
gonna put the crown where it's supposed to be? Who deserves
the crown of your life? It's the Lord Jesus. Christ deserves
that crown. Listen, don't keep him hid aside
in the bedchamber no longer. Don't keep him tucked away there
in the darkness. Don't just keep him out there because listen,
I'm telling you this morning, the longer that you keep the king
concealed in your life, the longer you just kind of keep him tucked
away over here, the sins and all the Athelias, all those things,
they will rule your life and they will run your life and they
will ruin your life. Listen, as long as you let them. Does that make sense? As long
as you let them. There has to come a moment where
you say, I gotta bring him out. I just can't keep living like
this. I just can't keep doing this. I just can't keep dealing with
this sin. I can't let this keep ruining my life. I can't keep
letting these things run over me and destroy everything that
I have, but I'm gonna have to do something about it. And you let
the king be where he's supposed to be. The Bible says there in
verse 12, they brought him out and they put a crown on his head.
Not only did they put the crown on his head, which represents
power, which represents authority. And we have to ask ourselves
what has the power and what has the authority of our life. My
Bible tells me that I shall not be brought under the power of
any. And so what I want to do is I want to make sure that Christ
has complete control and complete power in my life, that He is
the one that has the authority in all that I do, that in regard
to despite the things, I want to despite my own self-ambitions
and despite my own plans, that I do everything I can to submit
myself daily to God, that I die to Him and carry my cross and
say, Lord, I'm gonna let you have complete control and authority
over me. God, I surrender you. Always sing that song, I surrender
all. Are we surrendering it all this
morning? Are we just gonna say, well, I'm gonna keep this over
here for myself, and I'm just gonna keep this over here for
myself, and listen, as long as we do that, the king isn't sitting
on the throne. The Lord Jesus said himself to
his disciples, he says, why call you me, Lord, if you do not the
things that I say? And so listen, let's don't be
a people that just confesses that Christ is king, but let's
be a people that shows that Christ is king. because that's exactly
what they did. Let's not just confess it, but
let's demonstrate it. Let's manifest the Lord amongst
the people. And there in verse 12, the Bible
says they put a crown upon him. But not only did they put a crown
upon him, but notice what they did. The Bible says they gave
him the testimony. Well, what is the testimony? Well, that's
the law of God. And so they took this little
boy and they put the crown on his head and said, you now have
power, you now have authority. and they tucked inside of his
hand the word of God, the word of God. Listen, how are we supposed
to be what we need to be without the word of God? How can we rule? How can we operate in our lives,
of course, without Christ the one being the king? How can we
know what to do? and so they take the word of
God, they take the testimony and they took it away and they
give it to this little lad and there he is, a seven year old
boy, he's holding the word of God in his hand. Not only is
he wearing the crown and not only does he have the word of
God, how many of you have the word of God with you this morning?
Man, praise God if you do. The Bible says there in verse
12, they put the king, they put the crown on the king and gave
him the word of God, and now here he is with the crown, here
he is with the word of God, and then they did this, and they
made him king, and then what'd they do? They anointed him. They
anointed him. They poured that oil, fresh oil
on his head like they anointed the kings. You know that oil
is a representation? the power of the Holy Spirit
of God. This is God's blessing, this is what God wants, and this
is what God desires, and he is the one that God said there is
to be king, and so they take him, they crown him, they put
the word of God in his hand, and then they anoint him with
oil, and so what they desired and what they wanted was a man
that would lead them, who would be the king, who would lead with
the instruction and the wisdom of God in his life, and would
go forth in the power and might of the Holy Spirit, Listen, how
can we, even young people here this morning, and any of us here
today, how can we live the Christian life without the Word of God
in our hand? How can we live the Christian life without Jesus
sitting on the throne, being crowned the King of kings and
the Lord of lords? How can we live the Christian life not being
anointed by the Holy Spirit of God, and walking in the Spirit,
and living in the Spirit, and being filled by the Spirit? How
can we? I dare say we'd be in a lot of
trouble if we don't crown Jesus as the king this morning of our
life. If we don't follow the word of God, we don't walk in
the power of the Holy Spirit. And that's what they did right
there as that little boy sat on the throne, as he stood there. and crown him as king. Put the
word of God in his hand and anoint him as a symbol of God's chosen
man, a symbol of the power and the might of God on his life.
And listen, you here this morning can live the same way, but we
have to say at some point in our life, I'm tired of all the
Athelias ruling and reigning in my life. And you can call
them whatever you want to call them. Whatever it is that is ruling
and reigning, whatever it is that has the power and control
in your life, you just call it what it is. That's an Atheliah. And the longer that you let Atheliah
reign, she'll be happy to do it. And she'll be happy to bring
more destruction. She'll be happy to bring more
ruin. She'll be happy to bring more sorrow. But one day, you're
gonna have to say, I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired,
and I'm not gonna keep the king concealed any longer, and I'm
gonna bring him out, but I'm gonna ask you, how long is that
gonna be? Is it gonna be six years? Is
it gonna be seven years? Is it gonna be two years? Is
it gonna be one year? Is it gonna be three months? Is it gonna
be two weeks? Is it gonna be today? Are you here this morning gonna
say, you know what? I'm not letting Athiliah take another day from
me. I'm gonna confess the king. I'm gonna show everybody who
he is, and I'm gonna live in the might and power of God. What
are you gonna do this morning? Nobody can make that decision
but you. All I can do is cheer you on and I can pray for you
and try to be the best man of God I can be for you, but you're
sitting here this morning, you're gonna have to be the one that
makes that decision to say, I'm tired of things being this way,
I'm tired of living this life, I want things to change, I want
things to be different, and I'm not gonna keep God tucked away,
but I'm gonna show him, I'm gonna crown him, I'm gonna follow the
word of God, I'm gonna walk in the power and might of the Holy
Spirit. What's your decision? What's your decision? Almost
done, keep looking. The Bible says there in verse
12, he brought the king's son, they put the crown upon him,
they gave him the testimony, they made him the king, they
anointed him, and then the Bible says, and they clapped their
hands and said, God saved the king. You're saved here this
morning, give God a hand. Hey, praise the Lord, praise the Lord. Listen, God deserves a whole
lot more than that. The Lord Jesus, he went to that old rugged
cross, and I tell you what, he was beat, he was bruised for
our iniquities, he was marred more than any other man. He did
it for you, he did it for me, he did it for the sins of the
world. Listen, God deserves our praise. The king of kings deserves
our praise and our thanksgiving. And there in verse 12, they clapped
their hands and said, God saved the king. Well, in the midst
of all of this, something began to brew. In the midst of all
of this going on, all these hundreds of people gathering together,
and all this noise, and the trumpets blowing, and everybody clapping
their hands. Somebody got wind of something.
Oh, with Elia, sitting off over here somewhere. Theophilius sitting
off over here somewhere, she don't know what's going on. Don't
you like to get the devil by surprise? Man, I tell you what,
aren't you glad the devil don't know everything? That's right.
Because if he did, he'd have known Joash was there. But all
of this praise, and all of this stuff going on, and old Theophilius
sitting up here, and she hears something. She perks up. What's going on over there? What's
happening over there in the house of God? I mean, she don't ever
go. What's happening over there in the house of God? And she
goes running over there to see what's going on. Take a look
at the text, pick it up, verse 13. And when Atheliah heard the
noise, listen, I think we ought to make a noise this morning.
I think with the clapping of our hands and the shout of God's
people that we ought to let the devil know that you're not gonna
keep control of my life any longer, that you're not gonna keep ruining
me, but I'm gonna live for God. I got the holy, I'm anointed
by the power of the Holy Spirit. I got the word of God tucked
in my hand this morning, and I'm gonna confess him and show
him to everybody. I'm not gonna conceal him off
to this side any longer. We ought to let sin know, and
we ought to let the devil know that he's no longer gonna be
able to have control over us. We ought to do that. We ought
to do that. And we ought not be ashamed.
What's the Bible say? For I am not ashamed of the gospel
of Christ, for it is the power of God unto salvation, to the
Jew first and to the Greek. Let us not be ashamed, but let's
lift up our holy hands and praise and thanksgiving. Let us give
the Lord a hand. And there in verse 13, Athelia
heard the noise. The moment that you, inside your
heart this morning, began to name that Athelia. When you began
to name that Athelia, and you began to clap for God, Athelia
perked up, because you got her attention. And you know, just
as well as I do this morning, we all got an Athelia in our
life. Something that wants control,
something that wants that power, that besetting center, that weight,
whatever it is, we all got one, we all got some. They're doing
everything they can to stay in control, to stay in power, and
as soon as you thought about it, as soon as it come across
your mind, and you begin to lift up your hands and praise God
that you are saved, you, Athelia, just raised up her head, and
you got her attention. Now listen, we're gonna do something
about that. The Bible says in verse 13, Athelia, I heard the
noise of the guard and of the people. And she came to the people
in the temple of the Lord, and she looked, and behold, the king
stood by a pillar as the manor was, and the princes and the
trumpeteers by the king, and all the people of the land rejoiced
and blew with trumpets, and Atheliah ran her clothes and cried, treason,
treason. You see there in verse 14, we
see everybody excited that Atheliah is being overcome. that Atheliah
has been pushed off to this side, that she is no longer the king
of our life, and we see the trumpeteers, man, they're playing. Everybody's
praising God and rejoicing, but I tell you what, it sure did
make her upset. The Bible says Atheliah ran her
clothes and cried treason, treason. See, Atheliah wants to make you
think that if you serve God, there's something wrong with
it. Athelia, I see your sin wants
you to think that if you try to get it out of your life that
you're not doing right. That you ought to feel bad for
trying to get rid of me. I've been in your life for so
long and I thought we was best friends. and now here you are
trying to get rid of me. I can't believe you'd do such
a thing. That is treason, that is treason. Well listen, let
me tell you something. If that's what you think is treason,
then I'm all for it because I don't want you here no more. And that's
what we all should think and that's how we all should feel.
We don't want to fill the eyes and stare around in our life,
but the devil will get you to think, the devil will do everything
he can to make you think that you should be guilty for trying
to get rid of your sin. And you know, then the devil
do everything he can to make it as hard and as difficult as he
can. That is treason, that is treason.
You shouldn't be praying to get rid of me. I mean, we've been
together for such a long time. Remember all the good times that
we've had together. You shouldn't be trying to get
rid of me. But the king's sitting on the throne. I don't know what's
going on back here. This ain't gonna lie, is it? But the king's sitting on the
throne. He wants you to know this morning. You need to kick Athelia out.
And she's gonna go kicking and screaming. She's gonna go kicking
and screaming. Listen, don't you think for one
second you're gonna try to get rid of sin in your life and it's
just gonna say, okay, I'll just, you know, whatever. No. You're gonna
try to kick sin out of your life, and let me tell you what's gonna
happen. You're gonna get right with God. You're gonna crown the Lord Jesus as
the king of your life. You're gonna walk around with
the word of God in your hand, and guided by his knowledge and
guided by his wisdom and instruction, you're gonna live in the might
and power of God, anointed by the Holy Spirit, and that sin
is gonna go away, kicking and screaming and doing everything
you can to stay in. The Bible shows us right here,
take a look. So what are we gonna do about this? In verse 15, the Bible says,
but Jehoiada, the priest, commanded the captains of the hundreds
and officers of the host and said to them, have her forth
without the ranges. And him that followeth her, kill
with the sword. Not only are we gonna take care
of her, but we're gonna take care of everybody that's following her too. We
don't want nothing left and we don't want nobody else left.
If you're gonna follow in that direction, you're gonna follow
in that path. Listen, we don't want you around. And he says
there in verse 15, have her forth without the rangers and him to
follow with her, kill with a sword. For the priest had said, let
her not be slain in the house of the Lord. So what do we gotta
do? The very last truth is not only do we not to conceal the
king in our life. But we confess him, we crown
him, and then we crush him. In verse 16, we stop with this. And the Bible says they laid
hands on her. I like that. Can you imagine
the scene? There she is, oh, she's pitching
a fit. She sees the new king sitting over there. She sees
everybody's all excited. Atheliah don't like the fact
that she's not on the throne. She don't like the fact that
she's not in charge. She don't like the fact that there's a
new king in town. So here she is doing everything
she can to make them feel bad and make them feel guilty about
what they're doing, but you know what? They don't feel bad at
all. You know why? Because for the last six years,
they've seen the destruction that she's caused, the ruin that
she's caused, and they don't want her around any longer. And
listen, let me tell you something. We look in our lives, we see
the things, all the Athelias that have control in our life,
we need to look at it and say, you know what? What have you
really brought me? What have you really given me? You've given
me nothing but a path of destruction. I can see everything that you've
laid waste in my life. You have brought ruin. You have
decimated everything that I love and hold dear. You have killed,
you have murdered, you have deceived. I don't want you here. And we
gotta, notice what the Bible says there in the text. Take
a look at it there in verse 16. They laid hands on it. You know
what you gotta do? You gotta lay hands on it. You gotta take
your hands and you gotta take her. Notice the Bible says they
laid hands on her and she went by the way which the horses came
into the king's house and there she was slain. There she was slain. You gotta
take those Ophelia's this morning. These things that wanna rule
and reign in our life and we gotta drag it out. We gotta drag
it out and slay it in the street. We cannot allow these Athelias
to remain in power and control in our life. There's some things
in our life, especially these Athelias, we can't pamper it,
we can't pet it, we can't prance around it, but we have to do
what we can to drag it out and get rid of it. You have to drag
it out and kill it. You have to crush it. You have
to declare that you are conquering it this morning. You say, well,
how am I gonna do that? It sure does sound difficult.
No, it's not there in verse 12. You crown the king. Make the
Lord Jesus the king of kings and the Lord of Lord in your
life. You put the testimony of God in your hand there in verse
12. You let God's word rule your life and run your life and guide
you and direct you. Let it be the light to your feet
and the lamp to your path. And the Bible says there in verse
12, and not only that, but walk in the power of God, be anointed
by him. And just clap and praise God.
The whole way, just clap and praise God. Just clap and praise
God. I'm telling you this morning,
I believe God wants us to praise Him and thank Him. There has to come a moment where
you say, you know what, I'm not gonna allow it to live anymore,
I'm gonna drag it out. I'm gonna drag it out in the street and
we're gonna slay this Athelia out here. It'll go out kicking
and screaming, but you can overcome it with the power of God. Keep
the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords on the throne of your
heart. Keep the Word of God in your hand. Walk in the power
and might of the Holy Spirit. And if God be for us, who can
be against us? Whatever your Athelia is here
this morning, it's time to drag it out. Time to drag it out. Let's pray. As you're sitting here this morning,
as the piano just plays lightly, they're gonna sing here in just
a few minutes, but... She's just gonna play
lightly here for just a moment. Whenever she gets ready, but if you're
here this morning, and you don't know Christ as your Savior, the
greatest person you can ever know is the Lord Jesus. The greatest
person you can ever know is Christ. Christ would change your life.
He changed mine. He changed these young people
here this morning. He's changed you. Let God change your life. Give
Him the chance, give Him the opportunity. You know what the
Athelias are in your life. Could be drugs. Could be alcoholism. Could be pornography. It could
be all different types of things. It could be bitterness, unforgiveness,
hate. Whatever it is in your life,
don't let it remain the king. Because it'll stay the king of
your life as long as you let it. But one day, let that day
be today. One day, that day, today. You
declare within your heart and your life, you say, you know
what? I'm not gonna let those Athelias be the king of my life
not a second longer. God, I give it to you this morning.
Lord, I'm praying today. I'm giving it to you, crowning
you as my king. I'm gonna confess you. I'm gonna
show you. I'm gonna praise you and thank
you. I'm gonna walk in the power of your might. I'm gonna walk
in the instruction of your word. And I'm gonna let you rule and
reign in my life. Today, I crown a new king. If you're here today
and you're not saved, the greatest thing you can do is get saved.
God loves you. The Bible says he sent his only

God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that

life. Is that what you desire this
morning? Sins forgiven and everlasting life. It awaits you and you can
have it. The Lord Jesus is here and he
is ready. His hand is not shortened that
he cannot save. And you just pray today and you
ask him, Jesus, I know I'm a sinner. I know I've sinned and done all
kinds of terrible things in my life, but today, Lord, I'm praying
that you would forgive me, wash me and cleanse me of my sin,
and be my savior today. As we stand to our feet and they

you what, we had a great service today. Thank you so much for
being here. God's been honored, we have been blessed, and God
has moved in people's lives, and that's the reason why we
come, amen. We wanna see God work, we wanna
see God move. Thank you so much for being here today. Let's be
dismissed in prayer. Father, we thank you so much
for this day. Lord, you have been so good. It's so great,
Lord, whenever we see you visit us in such a way. Lord, I pray
that you continue to move and work in everybody's life. Lord,
if there's one amongst us that doesn't know you as their Savior,
that God, as we leave here today, that Lord, that you would just
not let them rest, Lord, in their sin, but God, that they'd call
out to you for salvation, whether it's here after the service,
whether they're on their way home, when they get home, whether they're
at work sometime this week, whatever it is, God, I pray that your
Holy Spirit would not leave them alone, and God, that you'd burden
their heart to get saved. And Lord, if there's someone
amongst us or all of us, Lord, that we need to to crown a new
king and not let the Athelias rule and reign in our life. God,
I pray you to help us with that as well. We're so thankful, Lord,
for your goodness. God, we praise you this morning.
Lord, I pray that you keep us safe as we get ready to leave
today. As we come back again tonight, we just thank you for
it all. In this we pray in Jesus' name, amen.
