Lost Coin

49

Nothing brings greater joy to our hearts than when the lost is found. And nothing drives us to pursue the hunt than when something valuable is lost. Jesus, in the second parable of the lost coin emphasizes the passionate pursuit of lost people who have intrinsic value! People matter to God, and because people matter to God, every persons valuable in God's sight and God passionately pursues them. In Jesus' day as in ours, human life was cheap! For many, the value of a person is determined by what they can contribute to society as a whole. What makes a human life more precious than animal life? David, in Psalm 8, asks and answers the same question, 'What is man that God should pursue us?' God has made man a little lower than the angels, has crowned him with glory and honor. God has given man dominion over the works of His hands. More importantly, God has ordained us to be His worshippers! That's why we matter to God. God determines the sanctify of human life. God passionately pursues sinners because every man has intrinsic worth. The religious leaders of Jesus' day should have known from the experience of the O.T. prophet Jonah that God passionately pursue the lost. He indeed is 'not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance." But like Jonah, we might be more interested in our own creature comfort than on passionately pursuing the lost.
