The Book of Psalms. Psalm 11. For the chief musician is Psalm of David. In Jehovah do I take refuge. How say ye to my soul, flee as a bird to your mountain. For lo, the wicked bend the bow, to make ready their arrow upon the string, that they may shoot in darkness at the upright in heart. If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do? Jehovah is in his holy temple. Jehovah, his throne is in heaven. His eyes behold, his eyelids dry the children of men. Jehovah tries the righteous, but the wicked in him that loves violence his soul hates. Upon the wicked he will rain snares. Fire and brimstone and burning wind shall be the portion of their cup. For God is righteous. He loves righteousness. The upright shall behold his face. Psalm 12. For the chief musician said to the shemineth. A Psalm of David. Help God. For the godly man ceases. For the faithful fell from among the children of men. They speak falsehood, every one, with his neighbor, with flattering lip, and with a double heart do they speak. God will cut off all flattering lips, the tongue that speaks great things. Who has said with her tongue will we prevail? Our lips are our own. Who is lord over us? Because of the oppression of the poor, Because a sign of the needy, now will I arise, saith Jehovah. I will set him in the safety he pans for. The words of Jehovah are pure words. His silver tried in a furnace on the earth, purified seven times. That will keep them, O Jehovah. He will preserve them from this generation forever. the wicked walk on every side, when foulness is exalted among the sons of men. Psalm 13 for the Chief Musician A Psalm of David How long, O Lord, will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me? How long shall I take counsel in my soul, having sorrow in my heart all the day? How long shall my enemy be exalted over me? Consider and answer me, O Lord my God. Light mine eyes, lest I sleep to sleep of death. Lest mine enemies say I have prevailed against him. Lest my adversaries rejoice when I am moved. But I have trusted in your lovingkindness. My heart shall rejoice in your salvation. I will sing unto the Lord. because he has dealt bountifully with me. Psalm 14. For the chief musician of Psalm of David, the fool has said in his heart, there is no God. They are corrupt. They have done abominable works. There is none that does good. The Lord looked down from heaven upon the children of men to see if there were any that did understand. that did seek after God. They are all gone aside. They are together become filthy. There is none that does good, no, not one. Have all the workers of iniquity no knowledge, who eat up my people as they eat bread, and call not upon the Lord? There were they in great fear, for God is in the generation of the righteous. You put to shame the counsel of the poor, because Jehovah is his refuge. Oh, that the salvation of Israel would come out of Zion, when the Lord brings back the captivity of his people. Then shall Jacob rejoice, and Israel shall be glad. Psalm 15 Jehovah, who shall sojourn in your tabernacle? Who shall dwell in your holy hill? He that walks uprightly, and works righteousness, and speaks truth in his heart. He slanders not with his tongue, nor does evil to his friend, nor takes up a reproach against his neighbor, in whose eyes a reprobate is despised. but who honors them that fear the Lord. He that swears to his own hurt and does not change, he that puts not out his money to interest, nor takes reward against the innocent, he that does any thing shall never be moved. Psalm 16, Mictam of David. Preserve me, O God, for in you do I take refuge. O my soul, You have said to the Lord, You are my Lord. I have no good beyond You. It's for the saints that are in the earth. They are the excellent in whom is all my delight. Their sorrow shall be multiplied to give gifts for another God. Their drink-offerings of blood will I not offer, nor take their names upon my lips. The Lord is a portion of mine inheritance, and of my cup. You maintain my lot. The lines are fallen to me in pleasant places. Yea, I have a goodly heritage. I will bless the Lord who has given me counsel. Yea, my heart instructs me in the night seasons. I have set the Lord always before me, because He is at my right hand. I shall not be moved. Therefore my heart is glad and my glory rejoices. My flesh also shall dwell in safety, for you will not leave my soul to Sheol. Neither will you suffer your Holy One to see corruption. You will show me the path of life, and your presence is fullness of joy. In your right hand are pleasures forevermore. Psalm 17, a prayer of David. Hear the rite, O Jehovah, attend to my cry. Give ear to my prayer. that goes not out of fain lips. Let my sentence come forth from your presence. Let your eyes look upon equity. You have proved my heart. You have visited me in the night. You have tried me and find nothing. I am purposed that my mouth shall not transgress as for the works of men by the word of your lips. I have kept from me the ways of the violent. My steps have held fast to your paths. My feet have not slipped. I have called upon you, for you will answer me, O God. Incline your ear to me and hear my speech. Show your marvelous loving-kindness. O you that saves by your right hand them that take refuge in you, from those that rise up against them, keep me as the apple of your eye, hide me under the shadow of your wings, from the wicked that oppress me. My deadly enemies encompass me about, deer enclosed in their own fat. With their mouth they speak proudly. They have now encompassed us in our steps. They set their eyes to cast us down to the earth. He is like a lion that is greedy of its prey. And as it were a young lion, lurking in secret places. Arise, O Lord, confront him, cast him down. Deliver my soul from the wicked by your sword, from men by your hand, O Lord, from men of the world whose portion is sin this life, and whose belly you fill with your treasure, dear, satisfied with children, and leave the rest of their substance to their babes, As for me, I shall behold your faith and righteousness. I shall be satisfied when I awake with beholding your form. Psalm 18. For the chief musician, a son of David, the servant of Jehovah, who spake to God the words of this song in the day that God delivered him from the hand of all of his enemies. and from the hand of Saul. And he said, I love you, O God, my strength. The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock, in whom I will take refuge. my shield and the horn of my salvation, my high tower. I will call upon the Lord who is worthy to be praised. So shall I be saved from mine enemies. The cords of death compassed me, and the floods of ungodliness made me afraid. The cords of Sheol were round about me. The snares of death came upon me. In my distress, I called upon the Lord. I cried to my God. He heard my voice out of his temple. My cry before him came into his ears. Then the earth shook and trembled. The foundations also of the mountains quaked and were shaken because he was wroth. There went up smoke out of his nostrils and fire out of his mouth devoured. Coals were kindled by it. He bowed to heavens also and came down. And thick darkness was under his feet. And he rode upon a cherub and did fly. Yea, he soared upon the wings of the wind. He made darkness his hiding place. His pavilion round about him, darkness of waters, thick clouds of the skies, into brightness before him as thick clouds passed, hailstones and coals of fire. The Lord also thundered in the heavens, and the Most High uttered His voice. hailstones and coals of fire. And he sent out his arrows and scattered them. He ate lightnings, manifold, and discomfited them. Then the channels of water appeared, and the foundations of the world were laid bare. At your rebuke, O Lord, at the blast of the breath of your nostrils, he sent from on high. He took me. He drew me out of many waters. He delivered me from my strong enemy, and from them that hated me, for they were too mighty for me. They came upon me in a day of my calamity, but the Lord was my stay. He brought me forth also into a large place. He delivered me, because He delighted in me. The Lord has rewarded me according to my righteousness, according to the cleanness of my hands as He recompensed me. For I have kept the ways of the Lord, and have not wickedly departed from my God. For all His ordinances were before me, and I put not away statues from me. I was also perfect with him, and I kept myself from iniquity. Therefore has the Lord recompensed me according to my righteousness, according to the cleanness of my hands and his eyesight. With the merciful, you will show yourself merciful. With the perfect man, you will show yourself perfect. With the pure, you will show yourself pure. And with the perverse, you will show yourself forward. For you will save the afflicted people, but to haughty eyes you will bring down. For you will light my lamp. The Lord my God will lighten my darkness. For by you I run upon a trope, and by my God do I leap over a wall. As for God, his way is perfect. The word of Jehovah is tried. He is the shield to all them that take refuge in him. For who is God save the Lord? For who is a rock besides our God? The God that girds me with strength and makes my way perfect. He makes my feet like hind feet, and sets me upon my high places. He teaches my hands to war, so that mine arms do bend a bow of brass. You have also given me the shield of your salvation, and your right hand is holding me up, and your gentleness has made me great. You have enlarged my steps under me, and my feet have not slipped. I will pursue mine enemies and overtake them. Neither will I turn again till they are consumed. I will smite them through, so that they shall not be able to rise. They shall fall under my feet. For you have girded me with strength to the battle. You have subdued under me those that rose up against me. You have also made mine enemies turn their backs to me. Then am I cut off them that hate me." They cried, but there was none to save, even unto the Lord. But he answered them not. Then did I beat them small as the dust before the wind. I cast them out as a mire of the streets. You have delivered me from the strivings of the people. You have made me the head of the nations. A people whom I have not known shall serve me. As soon as they hear of me, they shall obey me. The foreigners shall submit themselves to me. The foreigners shall fade away, and shall come trembling out of their close places. The Lord lives, and blessed be my rock, and exalted be the God of my salvation. Even the God it executes vengeance for me, and subdues peoples under me. He rescues me from mine enemies. Yea, you lift me up above them that rise up against me. you deliver me from the violent man. Therefore will I give thanks unto you, O Lord, among the nations, and will sing praises to your name. Great deliverance gives heed to his king, and shows loving kindness to his anointed, to David, and to his seed forevermore. Psalm 19 for the Chief Musician A Psalm of David The heavens declare the glory of God, and the firmament shows his handiwork. Day into day utters speech, and night into night shows knowledge. There is no speech nor language. Their voice is not heard. Their line has gone out to all the earth. and their words to the end of the world. And them has he set a tabernacle for the sun, which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, and rejoices as a strong man to run his course. His going forth is from the end of the heavens in a circuit to the ends of it, and there is nothing hid from the heat of it. The law of the Lord is perfect, restoring the soul. The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple. The precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart. The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes. The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever. The ordinances of the Lord are true and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold. ye than much fine gold, sweeter also than honey, and the droppings of the honeycomb, pour over by them as your servant warned. and keeping them, there is great reward. Who can discern us theirs, clear me from hidden faults? Keep back your servant also from presumptuous sins. Let them not have dominion over me. Then shall I be upright, and I shall be cleared from great transgression. Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight. O Lord, my rock and my Redeemer. Psalm 20, for the chief musician of Psalm of David. The Lord answer you in a day of trouble. The name of the God of Jacob set you upon high. Send you help from the sanctuary and strengthen you out of Zion. Remember all your offerings and accept your burnt sacrifice. Grant you your heart's desire, Selah, and fulfill all your counsel. We will triumph in your salvation, and in the name of our God we will set up our banners. The Lord fulfill all your petitions. Now know that I, the Lord, save His Anointed. He will answer him from His holy heaven, with the saving strength of His right hand. Some trust in chariots, and some in horses, but we all make mention of the name of the Lord our God. They are bowed down and fallen, but we are risen and stand upright. Say, O Lord, let the King answer us when we call.
