The fear of death

There is a fear of death that is natural, a proper distaste for the rending of body and soul, and there is a fear of death that is moral, a sense of looming evil and the reality of judgment to come. Such fear brings everyone who has it—poor flesh and blood creatures in the kingdom of the devil—into an unhappy state of bondage. But it is possible to be released from the fear of death by the death of Christ Jesus, who took our nature in order to taste death in our place, and so deliver us from the sphere of death, and enable us to live without fear, in faith, by love, and with hope.
