Acts 6:8-7:60

Introduction

1. The contention

• Fanatical Jews from outside Israel
• Stephen and the dispute
• False charges

2. Stephen's Sermon

• The Jews are missing the point
  a. The futility of attachment to places or things for our faith and religion
  • Abraham never possessed any land or inheritance
  • The Tabernacle - a tent made with animal skins. The temple was Solomon's idea and creation
    b. God's messengers were persecuted and rejected
  • Joseph
  • Moses
  • Other prophets who foretold the coming of Jesus
    c. You can't follow God if you don't follow His Son, and you can't follow His Son if you don't listen to His word

3. The Glory of God

• 7:2 - 'And he said, “ Brethren and fathers, listen: The God of glory appeared to our father Abraham...'
• 7:55-56 - 'But he, being full of the Holy Spirit, gazed into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God, and said, “ Look! I see the heavens opened and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God!” '
