As he's passing out our notes,
we're going to open our Bibles to 1 Corinthians chapter 11.
And we have been preaching week after week on this head covering
series. And we want to go to the Lord
in prayer and pray that this would be blessed. Dear Father,
thank you for this day. The wonderful activities and
awards and beautiful songs and We pray right now as we open
your holy word again, that God, you'd open our hearts, that you'd
help us to understand thy word. Challenge us, Lord. And we pray
to just perfect ourselves, being good stewards of this body, of
our spirits and souls. And we do thank you for your
grace and for the Bible in the name of Jesus. Amen. Verse 11,
chapter 11, verse 14 says, does not even nature itself teach
you that if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him. But if
a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her for her hair is
given her for a covering as we are wrapping up the epistle to
the Ephesians. We're also wrapping up this head
covering series. I want you to see that a woman's
long hair is a glory to her. Do you see that? Hey, I don't
want to leave this subject to where you understand it. And
I want to see some more glory in the church. OK? I want to see some more glory.
And what I'm asking is that you will take these verses and basically say, preacher,
I heard it. I saw it week after week. I understand
it. And praise God, we can move on now to the Lord's Supper,
OK? But if I get an idea that we just missed it somehow or
another, then I've got to go back and we've got to start preaching
on it a couple more weeks. We're going to title this message
Hair, Letting the Glory Shine. Amen? After many months of deep
study on this section, I'm in some pretty deep stuff. I mean,
you got pictures here, you've got history, you've got so much
that we've covered. And really what we've done is
we've taken boxes and boxes and boxes of articles and tapes and
books and. I've ordered just about everything
that's ever been published that I could find, read every single
debate that I could get a hold of. And we've got a lot of material
that we've condensed down and summarized to you over these
past months. And I pray that it's challenged
you, giving you a better understanding about some things. We're going
to do a lighter study this week after so many months of deeper
teaching, but I want you to understand that what I'm saying today, though
it's a lighter study compared to a lot of the other sermons,
it still contains some deep, deep truths. If you'll open your
eyes to them. Sometimes we can sigh and say,
why do we need to know this type of stuff? And what I want you to see. And it's
more important than you realize, because Satan wants to destroy
and he wants to destroy your body. And if you don't realize
some of the things he's doing to destroy your body, we're going to have our lives
cut short before our time. And that's not God's will. That's
not God's ultimate pleasure. And, you know, modern Christians
get uncomfortable when you get out of the clouds and start dealing
with the physical world. They do. They get uncomfortable.
And you know why? Because there's a form of Gnosticism
that has invaded our churches. Now listen, if you deny the spiritual
and only deal with the body, you might as well be like the
homosexuals that shop at Whole Foods and they don't really care
about the spiritual world and what God says about sin, but
they want to make sure they eat organic. That's just crazy, isn't
it? So that's a foolish form of Gnosticism,
to just stress this world and forget about the coming of Jesus.
Forget about our spirits. Forget about our souls. Forget
about eternal things. That's Gnosticism. But to tell
you the truth, the Gnosticism that the Bible, that false teaching,
if you read the epistle to first John, there was a form of Gnosticism
that was opposite to that. And it was a false teaching that
stressed the spirit to the neglect of the body. And it said it doesn't
matter what you do in your body, it's just the body. It doesn't
matter how you dress, that's just the body. All that matters
is the heart. And they went so far with that
teaching that they say Jesus never resurrected in His body.
It was just His Spirit. Because everything, all the emphasis
was placed on the spiritual and nothing to do with the material.
You know what? I think in some ways that's where we're at today.
I mean, there's some carnal folks that don't even think. They're
like Esau, and they're profane. They just want to eat. They just
want to concentrate on the physical world, and they don't care about
eternal things. But if you think about the Christians today, many
of them are, teach me anything about my heart, but when you
start talking about my life, when you start talking about
my body, when you start talking about this physical world where
I actually have to do something, that's where I draw the line.
Y'all listening? Amen? Satan wants to turn everything
that God meant as a glory into a shame. If God said something's
a glory, Satan wants you to become a shame. He wants you to dishonor
your bodies. You know what Ichabod means?
Ichabod means the glory has departed. And when you read over there
in the Old Testament, there came a time when the glory of God departed. But you know, when the glory
of God's departing, what also departs is anything God said
was glorious departs and becomes a dishonor. The Bible says long
hair on the women is a glory. That's what it said. And Roloff
said back in the 70s, we're starting to get real short on glory. We're
starting to get real short on glory. God made man upright, but Satan
wants to turn him into an animal. What does he want to do? He wants to defile whatever God
said was glorious. When we walk with the Lord, you're
going to walk in glory, not the dishonor of sin and perversion.
Look at 1 Chronicles 16. Glory and honor are in his presence. Do you see that when you're fellowshipping
with God? When you're walking in His presence,
when you're going to a church that God's presence is manifest
in, you're going to start getting the glory back. Do you understand?
Not only the glory of God, but that manifestation and symbol
of God's glory. Do you want God to be in our
presence? Do you want to be in God's presence?
Okay, well understand, you're going to start getting the glory
back. That's good, isn't it? Well, the glory and honor in
His presence, what do you think is outside of His presence? Shame
and dishonor, right? So if God's not in a church,
you're going to have a lot of shame and a lot of dishonor. You say,
well, what's going to be dishonored? Anything God said was a glory
is now going to be turned into a shame. There it is, as simple
as can be. Psalms 4 says, Oh, you sons of
man, how long will you turn my glory into shame? There it is,
isn't it? How long are you going to turn
my glory into shame? You say, what do you mean? Well,
the glory of the Lord and the manifestations of everything
God said is glorious is being turned into shame. You say, can
you give me an example? Sure. Proverbs 17 says, the glory
of children are their what? Fathers. What does this age want
to hide? When you start getting a warped
world that is perverted, Men come under attack. So the justice
system down here in the courts, are they fair to men? No. Hollywood, is it fair to men?
No, it turns man into a buffoon, a baboon, doesn't it? They make
the man to be this passive, horrible person that everybody just tells
jokes about. That's what's happening. But
the Gloria children are their fathers, but if you're living
in an age that's not dwelling with God. It says glory is in
His presence. So that means fathers, wherever
you have the presence of God in the church, fathers are going
to be magnified and glorified. Do you see that? They're going
to be uplifted. But in a world that puts down
men, it's because God's not there. It's because God's not there. And what about this? Proverbs
20. The glory of young men is their strength. I tell you what,
if God's manifesting in the church, you're going to start getting
young men that are bold, that get out here and work. You don't
have to tell them to work. They're not little wimps. They're
not passive little sissies. They know how to be boys. They
know how to grow up and be men. You're going to have young men
that know how to work, young men that know how to get the
job done. They got backbone. They're not quitters. They're
workers. Do you see it? But what does
this world want to do to the boys? I don't want to do that. It's too hot. Make them whiny,
sissies. Is that what you want? A church
filled with young men that are a bunch of sissies and cowards?
We need the glory back. And when you walk with God and
get in His presence, He starts restoring all the glories. But when you get away from God,
it's shame. People start raising their children
and you don't know if it's a boy or a girl. You say, how'd that
happen to that boy? They got away from God. They got away from God. And when
you get out of God's presence, all the glories become shame.
Isn't that something? We therefore need to let the
glories that God has ordained shine, but Satan wants to cover
them up, mess them up. And you know what a symbol of
all of this is seen in the long hair of the women. There comes
a time when God looked at Israel and says, women, I want you to
cut off all your hair. And they said, why? That would
be a shame. And they say, I know, but all the glory has departed.
The glory has departed. Israel, we're full of a bunch
of sin. And symbolically, we want the
women to show that this nation has lost the presence of God. I tell you, America in the 1920s,
they began to cut their hair off and they continue to do it
and continue to do it. And some of you ladies have grown
up in that environment and we've been through all of that. And
I'm not here yelling at anybody. I'm just showing what happened
to us historically and how we need to begin to get our glory
back. Amen? And you know, a symbol of all of this is the long hair
of the women. And women need to do what they
can to study and experiment in wise ways to preserve their what?
Preserve their glory. And that's what I'm challenging.
I've given you the theological, the historical and mainly the
biblical. I've given you all of that. And
today, if I could sum all this up, and you say, well, what are
you really trying to say today? It's this. Ladies, begin to look
at some of the physical things you can do. Research it. Don't
accept any of the myths that are out there. You know, they've
got all kinds of myths. Black women can't grow long hair.
Don't listen to those myths. All of you, get together. Do
some research. You understand? Research and
begin to Explore and experiment in godly wise ways and let's
get the glory back. OK, that's what I'm challenging
you to do. Because, you know, the devil
comes to rob you. He does. And if you let him, he'll rob
you of your glory. The devil comes to destroy through
lies. He's a liar, isn't he? Satan wants to destroy us before
our time. Do you know you can die before
your time? Look at Ecclesiastes 7, neither be thou foolish, why
should thou die before thy time? My people are destroyed for what?
Lack of knowledge. And what is this? That's being
foolish, right? So a lot of times, people are
out here getting hurt and are dying, and they say, well, it
was just their time. No, it wasn't. God might have
given them another 15 years, another 25 years, another 50
years. But they went out here, they
were foolish, and they let the devil kill them. Is that wise? A young boy gets out here and
starts drinking alcohol, and he gets out here and he's running
his car all over the place, getting DUIs and going crazy. Is he foolish?
If he gets in a car wreck, would you say that's just his time?
Or would you say, you know, he was very foolish? He was very
foolish and he went out here and died before his time. Well,
you'd say that's very foolish, but there's other ways Christians
can be very foolish that are pretty much the same thing in
many ways. Why shouldst thou die before
thy time? Do you know cancer is skyrocketing
today? Just a report the other day.
Oh, God forbid. But just to show you how every
day there's a new article. Here's one in the AP. Global
cancer rates or cases are projected to rise 75% by 2030. They've already been, if you
look at a chart, it's just, it's off the charts. And they went on to link it to
mainly bad habits and diet. And you know what's sad? Cancer
brings radiation and radiation is poison. They ought to treat it through
radiation and drugs, harmful chemical cocktails of poison.
And one of the signs of a cancer patient is a bald head. Because
that radiation kills their hair. And what's sad is if we are getting
this destruction through no fault of our own, that's one thing.
But if we are participating and doing foolish things, I'm here
to say, let's quit being foolish so we can quit this destruction
that's happening upon our churches and upon our people in America
today. And you see the devil glorying
and laughing that that is the ultimate shaving that hair off
or having the hair fall out. That's what he wants. That's
what he wants. Ultimately, he wants to kill
them. Folks, whatever we can do to
prevent such a thing, we should do. Do you agree? And many times you stare up at
the clouds for toxic poisoning. You're getting asthma, you're
getting all kinds of anemia, you're getting all kinds of poisons
and you're looking up at the clouds and really, I've seen
some of what you're talking about. I've seen some of the documentaries
about stuff being dropped. Folks, it's one thing to look
up at the clouds and I have A suspicion that you're probably right about
things being dropped, all kinds of weather experiments and population
control. Who knows? But listen to me,
folks. You don't have to look up into the clouds. Just look
at what you're sticking in your bodies. Look at what you're putting
on your plate. And let me tell you something.
If you're sticking something on your plate that is killing
you and you're looking, you say, look up that stuff being sprayed
on that airplane. You ought to see the stuff you sprayed under
your arm this morning. I mean, you want to look up at
an airplane. I'm glad you're doing it. But you got more toxins
in your bathroom than you ever even realize. The stuff you're
cleaning your glass with, all the stuff you're spraying on
your body that says, warning, do not eat. But as long as you
leave it on your body for a little while, we think it'll be all
right. What is this stuff? It's got a list this big. You
couldn't pronounce it if you tried. You don't know what this
stuff is. You haven't the slightest idea.
And the people that are writing articles about it, they don't
know what it is. They just say no tests have ever
been done to show that this stuff's dangerous. Well, a lot of times,
most of that stuff, they do already know it's dangerous. Other countries
of the world have banned the stuff. But it's still put in
all your products, all your ingredients. Y'all getting bored with this
kind of preaching? That's coming out of airplanes.
We're breathing that stuff. Well, you're already breathing
it in your house. You're paying money to breathe it. They don't gotta escort it from
an airplane. You're paying money to not only breathe it, to put
it all over your body. Even if it produces nice hair
for a time, what's it gonna look like? If you got cancer. Was it worth it? God forbid. The first goal of
good health is to get right with God, right? Quit sinning, quit
all your bad habits that are sin. I'm talking big sin, but
there's a lot of things that are weights that God says also
to get rid of. Weights can also destroy your health. So after you get rid of those
big sins, Let's get rid of some of this toxic chemical food.
I have a vision of eating right. I have a vision of getting your
food from afar if you have to, doing whatever you got to do
to eat right. Hey, let's get rid of some of these toxic cleansers
in your home that can cause cancer and liver damage and skin problems.
You say, why do you think so-and-so is having these problems? Well,
the first thing I would do is get rid of cigarettes, get rid
of Beer drinking and all that stuff. You say, oh, we're way
past that, preacher. OK. Well, then I'd say, what do you
got on your plate? I mean, God says there's unclean
stuff that you should never eat. Are you going and eating all
that stuff? You're eating these critters out of the ocean that can't clean
themselves. You're eating that stuff and
you're getting all that algae all inside your body, getting
that trichinosis and all those worms. I mean, before you go
look at some great big thing and your eyes are on the ends
of the earth, why don't you start with what you're sticking on
your plate? If you said, oh, we got a great
diet preacher. OK, praise God, you got clean food, doing the
best you can clean water, clean food. Well, then I would say before
you start looking at some far away thing. What are you sticking
all over your body every single day and breathing as you stick
it on your body? What are you cleaning with? And I'm not here to make any
of you cleaners mad. Praise God for every one of you.
Praise God for how beautiful our church looks and praise God
for all your gifts. I am trying to encourage you
to be wiser about the way you clean, not only clean your body,
but clean your house. Knowing that these things are
filled with toxic cancer, causing pollutions, They produce a green movement
with green products. And so you walk into the store
and you said, this is natural chicken. That's great. Natural
chicken. Oh, no, preacher, we always get
natural chicken. Do you know what that means? Nothing. It
means nothing. It means they didn't stick any
preservatives, maybe in the plastic, but it's still got chicken with
antibiotics. And not only that, what does
the chicken eat? What do they feed that chicken the whole life? Well, I brought green shampoo.
It's an organic shampoo. But what does it have in there?
What are the ingredients? We use green dishwashing liquid.
It's environmental friendly. What's in there? Oh, they hide
the ingredients. You can't even see them. And
it wouldn't matter anyway, because they said that US regulations
says that they don't have to tell you all the ingredients,
even in the green products that's inside there. Mercola had a nice article that
I think it would be practical. A lot of people say, well, he's
got some new age ideas. Hey, maybe you ought to learn some
of his practical knowledge. And I'm all with you in criticizing
some of his spiritual belief. But maybe some of the practical
things you ought to master before we criticize. And I'm all for,
believe me, rebuking sin and rebuking all that hocus pocus
magic and hypnotism and whatever. But we got a problem among Christians
that say, you know, this fella, he's messed up. Well, maybe you
ought to learn a little bit of his wisdom. You know, we got
Dave Ramsey, you know. I don't like a lot of stuff that
Dave Ramsey does. I don't like his rock and roll. I don't like
what he says about men in the house. There's a lot of things
I don't like. But maybe we better learn some basic common sense
from Dave Ramsey before you criticize. You understand? Do you get my
point? My point is, it's far better that you live up to the
wisdom that people have, then criticize. Sometimes what we
say is we're not going to listen to what anybody says, because
there might be a little error. And I appreciate that. But we
ought to let God speak. I believe that there's some folks
out here that are trying to get your attention, and it should
be the Christians that are leading the way. If we're the light of
the world, we ought to be the ones at the forefront telling
people about these things. Oh, we got a much more important
message than just your body. But we ought to love the whole
man. We ought to love the body. We ought to love the soul. We
ought to love the spirit. I don't want to get so hung up
on the body that we neglect the soul. God forbid. How crazy is
that? But to sit back and say, spiritual
health, may you prosper, and everybody's going home, breathing
in cancer, liver destroying stuff, and you're watching your church,
and you're burying everybody every couple of weeks, and the
pastor's smiling and says, oh, we don't get off into that health
stuff. Well, you're sure burying a lot of people. Maybe you should
start getting into some of it. Amen? Mercola says commercial
cleaning products, even green ones, like Simple Green, clean
faster than soap and water can, but this is because they contain
small amounts of the most powerful grease-cutting class of chemicals
known as glycol ethers. Overexposure to glycol ethers
causes anemia. That's when you got low iron
in your bloodstream. You're tired. Intoxication. Irritation
of the eyes and nose. In laboratory animals, low level
exposure to glycol ethers is called birth defect. Damage to
the whole reproductive system. The most commonly used glycol
ether has been shown to cause liver cancer in animals. You're
exposed to glycol ethers when you inhale them as the cleanser
is used. Most glycol ethers can silently
penetrate your skin, enter your bloodstream. If that were not
enough, the glycol ethers also go through natural rubber gloves.
and many type of plastic gloves without changing their appearance.
Having a clean home should never cost you something as valuable
as your health. The problem is when the chemicals in these common
household products hit your skin, hit your lung, they go directly
into your bloodstream bypassing your body's natural defense system.
See, I always ask one question. What did they do before the chemical
age? Were people just dirty? You know. I understand with harsh chemicals
you can get things done faster, but man's really foolish this
way. He goes, we ain't gonna put up with no worms getting
on our food. Uh-uh. We're not gonna get out here
and have to pray every day for our crops and use, you know,
wise stuff that they've had. of all these years of learning
and praying and how to grow food. Sometimes the bug's going to
get some of your food, fellas. You understand that? But when
you eat an apple, it ought to look like a few bugs have eaten
that apple. You understand? When it starts
getting shiny and looks like no bug has eaten it, something's
wrong, folks. And I'm telling you, man, fills
it full of poison, kills all the frogs, kills all the bees,
kills all the bugs, gives him cancer. But he says, I don't
have to put up with nothing. I don't have to worry about it.
Is that wise? Come on, folks. Glycol, ethers, widespread use
in paints and perfumes and soaps and cosmetics and foods that
cause fatigue, lethargy, nausea, possible liver and kidney damage.
You got these phthalates that cause reproductive harm, endocrine
disruption, cancer, organ damage. Perfumes cause headaches, sinus
problems, asthma, intoxication and even addiction. Phosphates,
they've reduced Eliminated phosphates from laundry products, but no
action has ever been taken on dishwasher detergents. Then you
got these NPEs, common ingredient laundry detergents and all purpose
cleansers, banned in Europe. It's already thought to be the
cause of male fish transforming into these deformed looking female
fish things. Volatile organic compounds cause
nose and throat irritation, dizziness and asthma. Ammonia, irritation
to the skin, eyes and lungs. Chlorine, irritation to the skin,
eyes and lungs. Sodium lauryl sulfate, skin irritant,
ire to potential cancer causer. Unfortunately, the terms green
and natural are nothing more than marketing terms. Most green
cleansing products like Simple Green are still loaded with glycol,
ether, which are anything but good for your health, and inhaled
are when they touch your skin. In the case of household cleansers,
Even the most meticulous eye for labels won't get you far.
Why? Because many of the most dangerous chemicals will not
even be on the label. The manufacturers have conveniently
lobbied the government to exempt them from this requirement, and
they can omit any ingredient that is considered a secret formula
from its label. So what do you have today? You're
living in a world where You've got the spiritual world that's
a toxic, dangerous world of satanic danger. But you've got the physical
world that's a toxic world of physical danger. And we're breathing
that stuff and we're destroying the world. And God finally says
in the book of Revelation, he gets fed up with it all. And
he says he comes to destroy those that destroy the earth. We're
destroying this world. You understand that we're destroying
our health. We're suffering with things that
we shouldn't be suffering with. So the first thing you do, We
did this many, many years ago. The first thing you do is you
say, I'm going to quit using all of those regular name brand
stuff. So you start buying the Jason
and the Avalon shampoos and all of that. Well, there's people
around the country that are organizing right now, standing up outside
their companies, calling them fakers. saying you people are
putting out these products that are supposed to be good, but
look at the ingredients you're using. And you're actually giving
everybody the impression that these things are healthy. But
you know what? Let me just tell you plainly.
When man isolates something and turns it into a synthetic chemical,
and he starts manipulating it, and it comes up being this long
word that you couldn't pronounce if you tried, and he says, we
don't think this thing will hurt you as long as you don't eat
it. And then you're putting it on your body and you're smelling
it. I don't care if it says Jason or Avalon or whatever. I don't
care if it's got the word natural. I don't care if it says we put
a little bit of honey in here. I don't care what it says. You're
breathing a bunch of toxic chemicals and if you're getting a headache,
getting asthma, getting anemia, getting health problems and who
knows what else, why don't we just start thinking a little
bit? About maybe I shouldn't trust these people. That's one
thing I had to learn. You can't trust the health food
community. You can't. They want money just like everybody
else. And the love of money is the
root of all evil. And you have to learn. And I'm just telling
you, the more things you do, don't get depressed on me. Don't
don't don't go anywhere. We're still we're still preaching.
Listen to me. The more you learn about this
stuff, the better. The more we learn to do naturally,
the better. Right now, you're a guinea pig
for a giant, massive, toxic experiment. There was a generation that was
an experiment for Crisco. You know all about that, 1920.
We're going to get rid of butter and we're going to give you this
Crisco margarine stuff. They killed a whole generation
of your grandparents and great-grandparents. Now they say, American Heart
Association, they say, oh, don't use Crisco, don't use margarine.
Wait a second. You told us now for 80 years
to use this stuff. Oh, I know, but we found out
it was wrong. So you're telling me that whole generation was
a toxic experiment? And that's what you are right
now. All these new chemicals. You are a guinea pig to see what
happens when they do these things. So my question is this, ladies,
listen. How can women grow their hair and keep it shiny and clean
without ingesting toxic chemicals into their bodies? That's the
question. That's the question. And I'm not here giving you all
the answers. I'm here challenging you to research, use your gifts
as women. And let's try to come up with
these answers. OK, I'm going to give you some information.
But I want you to Figure out how to grow long, beautiful hair
without killing yourself. Now, some of the Pentecostals
say that it's a sin to ever trim your hair. I've got a stack of
books that claim if you ever stick scissors to your hair,
you sinned against God. You say that they have long,
beautiful hair. A lot of them do, but a lot of them have short
hair and a lot of them because they say it's OK to perm it,
just don't cut it. And so a lot of them are walking
around with short hair that's been burned by chemical perms,
but they say never use scissors. So I want to say right now, I
want everybody to listen. I don't believe it's wrong to
trim your hair. You have Mephibosheth, before
he stood before David, he trimmed his beard. He didn't shave the
thing off, he trimmed it. If your hair needs a little trimming
because of split ends, trim it. What I rebuke is the game. What
I rebuke is, oh, I'm just getting the split ends cut out. Wink,
wink. And then you cut six inches off
the stuff. Oh, we had to get down to the hell. I'm against
the whole deception of saying you're cutting off split ends
and you're never growing your hair. You're listening. See, what I teach against is
people saying, I'm just getting tired of having long hair. It's
a lot to manage. It's a lot to have to do. And
I just want something different. So let me go the short way. But
what I did was I had to get rid of my split ends. But that wasn't
the real reason that you cut your hair. Where's everybody at? Y'all here? All right. Now time to walk around
and get a drink of water. Amen. We're preaching. Y'all
listening. Now, how can women grow their
hair and keep it shiny and clean without ingesting toxic chemicals
into their bodies? Long before Y2K. I was researching how to make
your own shampoo. I ordered plants like soapwort and got in the
sink and started mixing all that stuff together, and I can never
get that stuff to foam. You know, as you take beans and
you run water over them, it starts bubbling. You're like, how did
I get this detergent inside my beans? That's not dish detergent.
That's that soap that's naturally in those beans. The Indians would
take those beans and get that soap out of those plants and
you could kill fish with it. You get soap out of plants. But
it's never this amazing lather that you get from the chemical. So I began to do what I could
to try to figure out how to make shampoo. I made a big mistake
along the way that we'll talk about as we go on. But here's the big question that
we got to ask, that I want to ask. What did the ancient people
do to clean? Isn't that a good question? What
did they eat? What modern man says is your
forefathers were ignorant and stupid, especially if it was
in the days of the Bible. They were idiots. They didn't
know what to do about anything. But now we're so sophisticated
and smart. Well, hey, they said eat butter. These modern folks
said use margarine. Who was the foolish person? The
modern folks, the doctors, they said Jesus said an egg is good.
What do the modern folks say? Well, they said for a lot of
decades now they're going back and saying, oh, eggs are good.
Well, for decades, you said every doctor says they're bad. So let's not assume that our
forefathers, especially, God forbid, our biblical forefathers,
were foolish about some common sense things. Let's assume that
they were wise. Especially if God's telling them
what to do. So what did the ancients, especially the Jews, used to
clean with? First thing I'm going to tell you they used was water.
It's amazing what water will clean, isn't it? It's amazing. Water cleans things. If you don't
believe me, they clean their feet with water. It's pretty
good, isn't it? If your feet can get cleaned
by water, anything can get cleaned. Genesis 43, the man brought the
men into Joseph's house and gave them water and they washed their
feet. But you know what else they had
in the Bible days? They had baking soda. Sometimes it was in the
forms of what we would call borax. Sometimes it was in the form
of baking soda. You know, baking soda's been around for thousands
of years, and it goes all the way back to the days of the Bible.
They cleaned a lot with baking soda. You ever seen those books,
A Thousand Uses of Baking Soda? Well, they knew all about that
in Bible days. Let me show you. Genesis 2. For though thou wash
thee with niter, and take thee much soap, yet thy iniquity is
marked before me." So God mentions the two best cleansers that He
knows of and says, though you use bacon soda and soap, you're
not going to be able to get clean of your sin. Only God can clean
sin by His blood. Amen? But hey, don't ignore what
He just said. He said, how do you know niter
is bacon soda? Well, because Not only from Bible
encyclopedias, but over there and saw in Proverbs, it says
if you add vinegar to niter, what happens? You get an explosion
and just pour a little vinegar on baking soda and see what happens.
But you can trace that word back to see they were digging that
stuff out of the ground and. They call it washing soda today,
baking soda. It's all forms of niter. But
did you notice what other word they used? So, what I'm saying
is the ancients in Bible days knew how to take water, they
knew how to use washing soda, they knew how to use baking soda
to get theirselves and their environment clean. But that's
not all they had. They also had soap. Now, do you
think that was some chemical soap? No, it was soap. Take thee much
soap. They had soap. Soap is good. It says in Malachi 3, who may
abide the day of his coming, who shall stand when he appeareth,
for he is like a refiner's fire and like what? Fuller soap. They made soap. They probably
knew how to make it out of olive oil. It's good to make soap. They also had vinegar with vinegar,
clean a lot on it. And you know what? They've had
some of these bathroom cleaners that are supposed to, we need
to kill the bacteria. And don't watch some of those documentaries
where they put the, the world's best known, uh, chemical bathroom
cleaner and vinegar was just sitting there right there with
it. As far as killing the bacteria. It was amazing. They cleaned
with olive oil. Oil will clean to some degree.
They had essential oils. It's amazing what essential oils
will kill. You start putting cinnamon and
stuff and things like that. They had herbs, you know, some
herbs will clean. They had citrus juice. They knew
how to take their environment and clean with it. It says in 2 Samuel, David arose
from the earth and he washed and anointed himself. He put
olive oil on him. In the Bible, herbs like hyssop
were often used. See, we've forgotten all of these
things. We've forgotten how to boil hyssop and make a tincture
out of it and mix it with water and shake it all up and spray
it and clean with it. We forgot how to do these things.
Our forefathers have forgotten. Who can argue with the Bible?
So years ago, I'm talking many, many years ago before Y2K, I
understood all of this and I said, we're going to go back to ways
that you can clean and clean ourselves. But you can make a
few mistakes if you don't watch. There's a big mistake I made
when I saw it said sweet cane in the Bible and God says you
didn't bring me any sweet cane. And I said, well, it sounds like
to me cane sugar is good. It must be the refined sugar
that's bad. So I got rid of all the refined sugar, but I kept
the pure sugar cane in my house. And that was a big mistake. And
I found out years later, I went back to the text and I realized
that wasn't a cane that they were eating, that was an incense
cane that they were burning for incense. And I realized the Bible
never said that sweet cane was good talking about sugar. I've
made other mistakes in regard to some of these shampoos. One of the mistakes I made is
people said your natural oils will return soon. So just use
soap on your hair instead of harsh chemical shampoos. And so you say, okay, we'll just
start washing with soap. And after a while, your natural
oils will return and everything will be great. But then things
got bad and they got worse. My wife says, I don't think it's
working. I said, keep trying, keep trying. And I say this very carefully, very
carefully. You need to listen sometimes. You understand? We'll get on
past that now, but let's just See, what we're prone to do,
and there's a lot of it, and if you ladies could help us,
man. If you don't overreact in other things, then that can trust
us to believe you when you're telling us something's not working.
Because sometimes we think you're just overreacting. You understand?
Y'all understand? Y'all listening? Alright, you
can smile, Abby. She's over there nodding her
head. That's right, yeah. So, my house, it did not work. And we kept using the soap and
kept using the soap. It got worse and worse and worse.
Worse and worse and worse. It didn't work. I said, something's
wrong. I said, how can it be wrong?
That's what they used in the Bible. Now, number one, it doesn't
say anywhere in the Bible they stuck soap on their hair. Did
you did you see anywhere in all those scriptures that said they
stuck soap on their hair? It didn't. So that's the first thing
I got. Oh, it never says they put soap
on their hair. But even if they did put soap
on their hair, how often did they do it? See, sometimes you can find a
little bit of extra information. It doesn't take you. It doesn't
change what you've already found, but it just corrects it a little
bit. Look at this. An uncommon history of common
things. National Geographic Books, 2009. The problem is not so much
to get. Rid of the dirt, but the sebum. And oil produced by glands in
the skin. Soap leaves a dull film on the
hair. So the early Egyptians came up with a clever solution.
They were trying to figure out thousands of years ago how to
wash your hair without it leaving a film and scum all in your hair. So what they would do was wash
their hair with a mixture of citrus juice and a little soap. And I'm sure their soap was not
as harsh as our soap. The citric acid cuts through
the sebum. Others would mix soap with baking soda around the world. The resulting preparation has
a high number of negatively charged ions, as do modern shampoo. So
they were inventing the chemical structure of modern shampoos
by their experimentation. And I don't know the exact formula,
how they did this. But my point is, is they realized
the problem. We have to get our hair clean. We're not going to
go invent some crazy chemicals and burn our hair all up and
give everybody cancer. We got shiny hair. Everybody
has cancer and our fish are basically, you don't know if they're male
or female, they got eyes all over the place. But who cares? Our
hair's pretty. Does that make much sense? But they realize if you stick
soap to hair, it pretty much leaves a gook and a gunk. And
what are you going to do? Others report that ancients used
water and citrus juice. Women all over the world, that's
what they use. They use water mixed with citrus juice. I never
put citrus juice on my hair. Read the back of your conditioner
one time. Citric acid, so-and-so acid,
so-and-so. What do you think you're sticking
on your hair? So they use water and citrus
juice. There are reports of Russians using some soap on their hair
only to find out that their hard water caused a sticky scum to
develop. So Russian women said, we cannot
use soap upon our hair because we have hard water. And when
you mix hard water with soap, it leaves a sticky film on your
hair. So you know what they did before
World War II? They discovered Rainwater. Rainwater is what kind of water?
Soft water. And they found out that if they
use rainwater and a little soap with a little bit of lemon juice
or vinegar, all the big soap deposits that are in the hair,
the rainwater washes it away. I happen to have the hardest
water on the face of the earth. You go over and see my water
that's coming out that Texas well, and you'll see in a second
that Texas is known to be to have some of the hardest water
in all the country. The minerals that are coming
out of that water. I mean, you got to see what they do to my
pipes, you got to see what they do to my bathtub. It's just amazing
the hard water. So. When I was taking hard water,
the hardest in the nation, mixing it with soap and trying to wash
our hair, It didn't work. It didn't work. It didn't work. So many people use rainwater,
historical encyclopedia of good looks, beauty and grooming, says
many people wash their hair with the same kind of soap they use
on their bodies. The soaps did clean the hair,
but they often left it looking dull with the residue. So then
you try to comb it all out and what happens? It breaks. Indians and others use yucca
suds and other plants that have soapwort suds. And these probably
did not leave the same residue. Chinese women used only scented
water. They said we don't need anything
but water that's scented with a few herbs. And that's what
we wash our hair with. So this idea that you have to
use soap to wash your hair, that's one big mistake that I made.
The second big mistake I made was you have to watch not to
use hard water mixed with soap to wash your hair. I made a big
mistake there. And not only that. You say, how
did our forefathers do it before they discovered all that? They've
lost the old ways of the Indians and Bible days, but it was not
yet the chemical age. How did they use soap to wash
their hair? Well, let's look. Child's Day, 1912. Boys ought
to wash their hair every week and girls every what? Two weeks. You will notice after washing
your hair that it feels dry and fluffy and sometimes rather harsh
just because the soap and hot water together have washed out
the hair's natural oil. And this is why it's better not
to wash the hair with soap and hot water less than once a week. The Bulletin of the United States
Bureau of Education, 1918, about once in two weeks is sufficiently
often for girls to wash their hair. So one of the ways they
were mitigating this problem using soap was they were barely
washing their hair. And they even told you, if you're
a girl and you've got that long hair, don't you wash it but once
every two weeks. And we've already seen another
mistake I made is the water. One of the main problems is that
not only does soap leave a scum in the hair, but it becomes a
greater problem if you have hard water. Philadelphia Times, people
have known this for centuries, 1887, don't bathe in hard water,
soften it with a little borax. Expert cleaner of 1899 to make
water soft, boil it. You'll see all the minerals falling
down to the bottom of the pot. Boil it, add a little baking
soda or put into the water you wish to soften a piece of chalk
in a bucket or tub. So they use chalk, baking soda
to soften their water. Womanhood in 1904. Most people
know how highly injurious to the complexion is the use of
hard water. Hard water is equally injurious
to the hair as it is to the complexion. Well, that's all we have is hard
water. So they use a little baking soda to soften the water. And
folks said it even makes your food taste better. Janice Cox
of Natural Beauty says if you have hard water, baking soda
will soften it. Hard water makes cleaning products
less effective. Black girl with long hair says,
while black hair needs water to thrive, hard water can be
a total breakage nightmare. The very thing that we depend
on to take care of our hair and fight breakage can also be the
very thing that slowly destroys it. Unfortunately, hard water
is a common problem. Nearly 85% of homes have hard
water coming through the taps. Hard water is water that is full
of dissolved minerals. But isn't this good for us? Yes
and no. Minerals are excellent inside
the body. Inside, they're able to travel through the bloodstream
and nourish your hair. But minerals deposited on the exterior of
the hair can cause breakage, dryness. And not only black hair
care, but in everybody's hair, then you add chlorine that's
often added to hard water has negative effects. These minerals
have a drying effect. They can start giving you dandruff.
And then they go on to tell you that Texas has some of the hardest
waters in the nation, so E. Howe says one of the simplest
procedures for mitigating hard water is to add baking soda. Interesting. They said vinegar
also softens water. There's people on various websites
like NSU.com, homeschool family says this time I've definitely
discovered a key to life without shampoo. It's all about the water. You know how some people say
that their hair is soft and clean after using baking soda and vinegars,
while others of us struggle. The effectiveness of baking soda
hinges heavily upon whether you have hard or soft water. How
to wash your hair with baking soda if you have hard water.
And she goes on to give you her things that she's found of boiling
the water. and mixing it with a little baking
soda and using that as shampoo, followed up with apple cider
vinegar. Then from around the world, people
begin to write in and they say, it's worked for me too. This
is a great topic. I went no shampoo a year ago.
I had the exact same problem. I didn't even think about the
water problem. My family was no shampoo for over a year and
loved it, but we moved away and now we have a gooey, sticky,
impossible to brush or comb yuck. And over and over, people said
we finally broke down and quit using the homemade shampoo, began
to use Jason's organics. But my face has been breaking
out and my scalp itches. I wonder why. I want you to read
the ingredients that's in that stuff. If you can pronounce it,
I might give you a dollar. I didn't realize until that happened
that it was shampoo causing me to break out and itch. Might
be your asthma problem, too. It might be all kinds of problems
coming from that stuff. So I'm going to boil some water,
mix it up with baking soda, go right back to no shampoo. All
over the Internet, you have people that give you the directions
on how they simply change their water and they've been able to
go back to older ways of doing things and get success. Here's
somebody that uses distilled water because that's really what
you're trying to get is distilled water, soft water. It costs less
than a dollar a gallon at the grocery store. I mix that and
they make a shampoo out of that. They use lime juice as a conditioner.
And I hope this helps those struggling with the no shampoo method due
to hard water. You know what? If this helps
somebody avoid cancer. And still have beautiful hair,
praise God. And I'm not telling you what to do. I'm trying to
just get you to start doing some experimentation on your own.
You men that are getting bored. Hey, having beautiful hair on
your daughters and and your wife's a good thing. Amen. And I'm trying
to share with you some of the mistakes I've made in my research. This stuff's not easy to get
to the bottom of. And going back to the old ways is harder sometimes
than you realize. And there's a lot of information
that we don't know that they understood. And sometimes you
got to discover this by trial and error. And. For example, look at farm life,
1900, some women never use soap on the face, the imported Castile
olive soap is entirely unobjectable, though, when possible, only soft
water should be used on the face. A beautiful head of hair is a
woman's glory. And yet comparatively, comparatively few women take
the care of the hair that they should. The ordinary methods
of washing the hair are ruinous to its beauty. Washing the hair
in soap and water alone should never be done. They knew that
in the 1900s. If a woman would have nice glossy
hair, let her first rub eggs all through it, then wash it
out with olive oil, soap and soft water. What do they understand? Soft water. The woman beautiful
of 1899, dark haired person should use a yolk of egg, borax and
warm what? Rainwater. Because that's what?
After shampooing, olive oil is used to follow the drying of
the hair. I mean, you start getting the same stuff all over. Here's
a website, being one of five girls in a family of seven. I
am familiar with some of the above beauty treatments. My dad
always kept a rain barrel outside and we only washed our faces
and hair in the collected rainwater. My mother's rules. She must have
known something that's been handed down generation after generation. She also taught us to apply the
egg whites, not the yolk, to our hair once a month, rub them
into the scalp and rinse, of course, with what? Rainwater. If it looked like our hair was
becoming a little too oily, she would have us rinse in a solution
of vinegar and water. Facial treatments included washing
with buttermilk. Job mentions washing of the eyes
with milk. So take these ideas. Improve
upon them. Experiment with them. But know
when something's not working. But be honest about it not working. What I'm wanting you to see today
is you don't have to be a slave to chemicals. And this is what
I'm trying to get through to people. With whatever energy
you have left, I'm done. But I want you to just listen
for a second. They would like you to believe
that there was no such a thing as long, glorious, pretty hair. until the 1940s when they invented
chemicals. Did you really believe that?
Can you honestly sit here before me and say for 6,000 years, women
didn't know how to have pretty hair until they invented chemical
shampoo and chemical detergent? I just can't believe that. The
Bible speaks in Song of Solomon of the woman walking down a hill
and it looked like a flock of goats. Her hair was so long and
glorious. How did she keep that clean? I don't think we have to be a
slave to chemicals. And I have a lot of answers,
but I don't have all the answers on how to escape this chemical
generation. But I'm learning more and more
every day of my life. And I pray you're learning. And
if we all get together and learn, we can escape as much as we can
this chemical world out here. And I don't think God's happy
about manipulating His nature and putting everything and isolating
it and creating this toxic soup. And I'm sick of people getting
cancer and dying. You might roll your eyes and
get a little upset at some of this stuff, but I'd rather you
get mad at me now than go off and get cancer and get mad at
God. Do you understand that? So how did these women do that? I'd say if I had to guess, and
I checked Israel, don't just say, well, they always had soft
water in Israel. People have written articles that said you
can't find soft water in Israel, at least now. Everywhere the
water is hard. Well, how in the world? You say,
well, all Jews had nice, Jewish women had nice. Some of them
have thin hair. There's all types of hair types
and each one of them has a glory. My first guess was this Jewish
women, In the Bible days, I don't think they use soap on their
hair. There's no record that they ever put soap on their hair.
So what did they use? Maybe hyssop? David said, purge
me with hyssop and I shall be clean. I shall be clean. That's
a picture of the Lord cleansing us by his blood. But I think
David's saying, you know, your body can get cleaned by hyssop.
Do you think David was just foolish or do you think He knew that
Hissop will clean you. He knew Hissop will clean you.
Make your shampoo out of Hissop, make a cleanser out of Hissop.
And you know what I think they did? And I close with this. I
think they use rainwater to clean their hair with. I think they knew how to collect
the rainwater. And I think they said, that's what I use to wash
my hair with. We'll drink the spring water.
But I believe they drank the spring water and washed in the
soft water. Let me give you just a couple
of Bible verses, Job chapter nine, if I wash myself with snow
water and make my hands never so clean, Job's trying to give
you the most the cleanest thing that he could possibly do. And
he says, one of the cleanest things you could ever do is wash
yourself with snow water. I think these ladies gathered
the snow when it melted, collected that water, and I believe they
washed their hair in snow water. You know what snow water is?
Some of the softest water you can ever find. Soft water. Oh, but wait a second. Exodus
2, the daughter of Pharaoh came down to wash herself in the well. She came down to wash her hair
in the spring. You know what it says? Springs
are hard water. Wells are normally hard water. They drank the well water. They
drank the minerals on the inside of their body. They drank the
spring. But lakes and rivers are soft
water. The daughter of Pharaoh came down to wash herself where?
At the river. Why did she use a spring? You
get the point? If you think this was just about
how to wash your hair, you missed the point. And I pray God to
open your eyes to what the sermon was really about. You go back
and rewind the tape. Listen again. I had more to say than just how
to make your own homemade shampoo. OK. So don't put it out on the
Internet. Oh, see what this pastor did.
You know, last time he taught on shoes. Now he's teaching on
shampoo. Well, if you can't understand, I'll pray for you that the Lord
will get you to see and open your eyes. Dear Father, thank
you for the folks today, their patience. Thank you for your
goodness. Let us escape this chemical age,
Father. Show us step by step. How to save ourselves from asthma
and anemia and cancers and all of these headaches and things
that people are getting. Help us be wise. Give us the
courage to be different. To be creative. To use the ancient
wisdom. And reject that which is unbiblical
and wrong. Please give us healing. Give
us our glory back, Lord, in the name of Jesus. Amen.
