Corrupted from the Simplicity
Series 2 Corinthians Series
God had given Paul authority for the purpose of preaching to and discipling the Corinthians. Paul likened himself to a father who had promised his daughter to a godly man, and thus he was going to keep his daughter pure until the marriage. We too must not fail in our duty to the Lord and our responsibilities to those under our authority by not laboring to present them as pure virgins to Christ. This is true for parents and church leaders. The amazing thing about God's truth is that we will never exhaust its depth, nor will any mere human fully comprehend all that it says, yet at the same time, the simplicity of the truth is such that every believer is protected by it. The reason we are so comprehensively protected is due to the simplicity of the protection. The danger for us is not that we can't understand the truth, but rather that we, due to an exalted opinion of ourselves, are corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. We are not corrupted by the simplicity, but from the simplicity. This sermon then illustrates some of the simple protections God has given to His children.
