This evening, turn to Ephesians 2, verse 9. For by grace are ye saved through faith, and that in all of yourselves is the gift of God, not of works, lest any man should boast. To not be preaching on the subject, it's not what we do. In this life, mankind has tried for years to earn our way into heaven. Some are so prideful that they believe that if their good works outweigh their bad, that they will go to heaven when they die. John chapter 14, verse six says, Jesus say unto them, I am the way, the truth and the life. No man come upon to the father, but by me. There is only one way to heaven. There's only one name given whereby we must be saved. And that way and that name is Jesus. While there's only one way to be saved, let's look at a few of the things they cannot say. Number one, salvation cannot be earned. Ephesians chapter 2 verse 9 says, None of works lest any man should boast. The only way to be saved and go to heaven is to trust in the precious blood of Jesus by accepting the Lord Jesus Christ into your heart as your Lord and Savior. When Cain tried to offer the works of his hands in the form of his crops to the Lord, he knew what God required. Cain could have asked Abel for a lamb in exchange for his crops. Cain did not have the excuse of ignorance or that he did not have access to an acceptable offering. Kang was so arrogant and prideful that he believed his dead works, or crops, were just as good as the blood sacrifice offered by Abel. When it came time to sacrifice, Kang laid his good works on the altars offering to God, while Abel offered a lamb. Kang's sacrifice was rejected and Abel's sacrifice was accepted because it was a blood sacrifice, which is the type of sacrifice that was required to cover sin. Kang offered his works and was rejected. Kang's heart becomes so hard, evil, and full of hatred and jealousy that he committed the first murder in all of humanity by killing his own brother. 1 John 3, verse 12 says, Niles king, who was of that wicked one, and slew his brother. And wherefore slew he him, because his own works were evil, and his brother's righteous. King is a prime example of a man trying to earn his salvation, while Abel was trusting in the blood of the Lamb. King was depending on his works to appease the wrath of God. The truth is, no matter how good our works are, no matter how many good works that we do, that we will never be able to earn our way into heaven. Number two, salvation cannot be inherited. We cannot expect to inherit salvation from our family. Just because you have a Christian heritage does not make you a Christian. In order to be saved, you must have your own relationship with the Father, Son, and the Holy Ghost. One of my ancestors was a man named Robert Hunt. He was the chaplain at the settlement of Jamestown, the first pastor to set foot in the North American continent. My dad, my papa and my great grandpa were also preachers. But none of that makes me a Christian. I decided to deny myself, take up my cross, believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and repent of my sins. I remember when I first got saved, I was seven years old in Casey Freehold Baptist Church on Easter Sunday. I was sitting with my mother, and I watched and the other lady got saved. And I asked Mom, what was she doing? She told me she was getting saved. And I said, I want to be saved. So I got down on the altar and gave my heart to God. No matter what any of my family has done or will do, I had to believe my own heart and confess with my own mouth. While salvation is not inherited physically, there is a spiritual inheritance that God has promised to all who believe. We have inherited eternal life, an eternal home, eternal salvation. We are now the children of God. both by blood and by adoption. And if children, then heirs, heirs of God, and joint heirs with Christ, so that, if so, be that we suffer with him, that we may also be glorified together." Romans 8, verse 17. We are blood-bought, heaven-bound sons and daughters of God. Number three, salvation cannot be bought. Acts chapter 8 verse 20 says, but Peter said unto him, thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money. This verse reminds us that salvation is a free gift from God, and that no amount of money can buy it. Salvation is absolutely free. It cannot be bought, and it cannot be sold, and if God sold it, it's not a product. It does not matter if you're a millionaire. It does not matter if you're a celebrity. It does not matter if you are a good person. Everyone has to come to Jesus by trusting in the blood of Jesus. The ground is level at the foot of the cross. If you are trusting your riches to get you to heaven, you will be just like the rich man in Luke chapter 16. You will open your eyes in hell after you split it wide open. While these are just a few of lies that Satan uses to cause people to be lost, the truth remains that there is only one way to be saved, and that way is Jesus. Accepting Him into your heart and trusting His precious blood to pay your sin debt. Salvation is not based on your works. Salvation is not based on your family. Salvation is not based on your riches, fame, or your name. Salvation is, as Romans chapter 10 verses 9 through 10 says, that if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. Amen. Amen.
