The Temptations of Jesus (Pt 3)

Denying God’s Providence, Deforming God’s Promises, Disobeying God’s Precepts

Examine yourselves…Test yourselves. (2 Cor. 13:5)

• Do Something Natural…Selfish
• Do Something Unnatural…Sick
• Do Something Profane…Sacrilegious

I. Before
• If Jesus Fasted, So Should We
• Fasting Prepares, it Doesn’t Protect
…I discipline my body and keep it under control. (1 Cor. 9:25-27) …while bodily training is of…value, godliness is of value in every way, (1 Tim. 4:8)

II. During
• Jesus’s Use of the Word (vvs. 4,7,10)
• Jesus’s Understanding of the Word
…the things that are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law. (Deut. 29:29)

III. After
Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil…he will flee from you (Jam. 5:7)
• The Promise Was Fulfilled
…the serpent you will trample underfoot. (Ps. 91:13)
• The Promise Was Future
Galatians 6:14: …far be it from me to boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.

Galatians 2:20: I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.

Romans 6:2-4: How can we who died to sin still live in it? Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? We were buried therefore with Him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.
