II. 5 Ways to Keep the Lord's Day Holy (Heidelberg Catechism #103) (2 This Week, 3 Next Week):
A. By being diligent to attend church (Acts 2:42, 46)
· With the Purpose to Hear and Learn the Doctrine Taught, Meditate on what is Taught (Acts 17:11)
Forbidden to Demonstrate Contempt for or a Neglect of Keeping the Lord's Day Holy
· Not Diligent to Attend Church
· Not Giving a Proper Hearing or Attention to the Sermon (2 Corinthians 11:4)
· Neglecting to Spread the Knowledge of God and His Will (Matthew 18:19-20; Mark 16:15)
B. By Maintaining the Ministry of the Gospel and Schools as Expressed by 5 Characteristics of the Christian Life:
· Reverence (2 Corinthians 5:18-20)
· Love (Psalm 84:1-2)
· Obedience (John 10:27)
· Gratitude (1 Corinthians 9:7)
· Moderation and Forbearance (I Timothy 1:9; Galatians 6:1-2)
Forbidden to Demonstrate Contempt for the Ministry of the church and the gospel of Christ, which is evidenced in the following ways:
· Committed to Person's Unworthy of Such Trust; Not Acknowledged as a means of God to Gather His People; The Ministers are Treated with Contempt, Reproach, or Derision; Acts of Charity Overlooked and Support Needed Withheld; Divisiveness; Not Protected and Defended; Learning is Neglected; Preventing Others from Attending Church
