And for His blessings we lift our hearts in praise. Without a doubt we'll know that we have been revived when we shall leave this place. Amen. Good morning. Good morning. Welcome to People Valley Baptist Church. in God's house. Amen. It's good to be here this morning. I'm going to go over a few announcements. If you've got your bulletin, the first thing I was going to tell you is there is a tear off over here. If you're a visitor and just visiting us, we'd like to have your name and a way to contact you put it in the, uh, in the offering plate. Or if you know someone, We need salvation. Share their names with us so we can contact them. That's the most important part right in there. At times of our services, Sunday school is at 10 o'clock. Come and join us for Sunday school. You get to go through the Bible. It's the best way to learn a new language. It's right there. And we just have interaction with our Sunday school lessons. So come join us at 10 o'clock if you can. Morning worship service is 11 o'clock. Evening worship service is at 6. And on Wednesday night, we have Bible study over in the Fellowship Hall. Come and join us for that. We're doing the chronological ministry of Jesus right now. We're getting down to the, probably the most important, although the ministry was all important, but he is getting to the point right now where he is entering Jerusalem or getting to the point of entering Jerusalem at the last minute. It's a good time to come and join us because you really, you can pick up right where we start with that and it'll be great. So if you can, come join us on Wednesday night at 7 o'clock. There's a couple of things coming up here in the month of August on the 26th. The Calvary Children's Home Choir will be here to sing for us with Brother Schneider-Turner and bringing the message. These are not professional kids. These are kids that like to sing to Jesus. So if you get the opportunity, come do that. On the 19th of August, Jody Cagle will be here for the morning service to bring us a message. Everybody knows Jody, or most of you do, and he's an inspiration to listen to when he comes to give us a message. That's the same day that the choir goes to Starr Manor at 3 o'clock, and if you can, come join with that too. That's, again, And I say that is our family away from our church. They don't have the opportunity to come to church and worship. So we go worship with them. It's a wonderful time. So if you can, please come do that. We have a memorandum, J.M. Jones, August 8, 1998. this Jones family in your prayers as they go through these things. Also, our church would like to extend Christian sympathy to David Kahn, the passing of his cousin's husband. Lift David up as he goes through. It's a difficult thing for all of us to deal with and handle. While I mention that, Phillip, do you remember these folks that are here in Dewey's old house? They lost their son just this past week. and he had cancer. Lift this family up as well, if you would. Do you know their name? Bo was the godson and Kevin was the boy that died. Bo and Colin and family, right? Okay, they had the funeral this past week and I think Phillip told me that there was over 300 persons attended that funeral for that young man. So lift that family up. I know we've been up there more than one time talking with them. He didn't have any legs, for one thing. It's hard for him to come. But lift that family up. They need our prayers. Also, we'd like to mention If I could, and I can't tell you her name, there was a young lady that come here this morning in need with school coming on and that kind of thing. Bless her heart. One of the things she said is, I think she said her name was Tamara Khan. I believe, but I'm not sure. God knows who it is. And she said, pray for our financial needs. And I said, yes, ma'am, we can definitely do that. No question about it. So we'll lift that up. In your bulletins, there is also, Daryl put a thing in there called Read to Grow. And this is, I've mentioned it here before, but I'll definitely mention it again. The churches have joined, in Marshall County, have joined finally with the churches It's easy to be up here, isn't it Phillip? He said he would really shave you. I apologize for that. The Bartlett County Schools are joining finally with the churches in an effort to help the reading that is going on. They're starting out, this is a pilot year. They have selected four schools, which you'll see on the flyer that they're putting here. Clear Creek Elementary, Altoona, Cloverleaf, and Kingston. They're starting with four. They want to get this first school year under their belt and see how they can make changes to improve. The idea is to start, they're starting with the first grade classes in these four schools. And the volunteers are going to be there to help teachers, but in importantly is helping the reading. And I think most of you have heard me say this, but I'm going to say it again. What we were taught or told by the Chamber of Commerce is Bartlett County knows how many jails they need by the third grade proficiency levels. Now, that's amazing that you stop and think about it. But they say that that's exactly. And Martial County, just so that you know, is somewhere around, at third grade level, proficiency, is about 35% proficient. Now, if you stop and think about it, it means 65% of them are not proficient at the third grade level. And so what they're doing is starting with the first grade level, and they're going to build on this. Now, there's four schools that they're doing, as I mentioned, out of 12. So even that is a small chunk that we need to really try. And so we're looking for volunteers, and there are two training classes coming up, one on August 29th, another on September 5th, and the times have not been set exactly for those. If you choose to volunteer, this is completely different than the mentoring system that goes on in the schools. That is a totally different thing altogether. But there is a training class, you have to have a background check, and I can tell you, because that's required in order that any adult work with children. All right? But I think if I remember right, he said the background check would be paid for. Yes. If all went well. Yeah. Would not come out of your box. They will do a fingerprint. And they have a group together that is going to do that. But just stop and think about what can be done if adults take the interest in children. in school. And I'll give you a good example of that, as I remember when we were talking. There's about 20 children to a class. And I don't remember exactly, but I know Clear Creek, they said there were seven first grade classes. I think Kingston had five. And so you can see that this thing really generates If you're talking about seven first grade classes times 20 just in one school, okay? The other thing of the volunteering that I would mention, okay, is that what they need is one day a week, one hour a day. That's all they need. What they're trying to do is put in several people, I think, They have asked People's Valley to work with Clare Creek, which is out north of town. I believe Grace is also, and the gentleman there from Grace, they have 25. Well, that's still not enough. If they want five per class, and they got seven classes, they come up 10 short right off the bat. If you have an interest, see the pastor or myself, and we'll be able to help you understand a little bit more. So I thank you. Is there any other announcements? Okay. I have found a friend in Jesus, He's everything to me. He's the fairest of ten thousand to my soul. The lily of the valley, in Him alone I sing. All I need to live's that make me fully whole. What a lovely day Some weeks are more challenging than others as I take the Bibles over to Joshua. Joshua. Joshua chapter 2. Joshua chapter 2. Amen. Thank God. You look in your inserts in there and you'll have an outline and a scripture to go by. Thank God, as we look at that this morning. Joshua chapter 2 is a very familiar story. As we were looking at some of the things that they relate to. And we're going to look at her name, Rahab. And we're going to look at the term of salvation and the similar meanings that they have together of the name Rahab. Today we look at another window. We look through the Bible window or the Bible window pane of Noah. As he looked out the storm, his focus could only be from the 18 inches of a cubit from the tip to your elbow that he had in the ark or basically the windows that was in it. He was only able to look up into the sky instead of seeing all the things that were below of the storm. I thank God sometimes we've got to have our focus on the Lord in our lives today to be able to get through some of the storms in our life. Today we look at a window of rehab, a starlet thread that was hanging out. I thought so many different thoughts about this. And one thing about it was that she, just like each and every one of us, she was a sinner that was saved by God's marvelous grace. And so I thank God as we look at this wonderful Bible lesson today, looking at redemption through the window of rehab, we begin to look at a Bible pane that tells us a lot about this lady that had changed her life. doesn't matter you know where they needed water to come out, he struck it. And I thank God just because of that incident, he wasn't allowed to go into the promised land. And the change of command changed from Moses as God buried him to this day where no one else knows where his body is but the Lord. And of course, I thank God from that transition, Joshua took over the chain of command. And when you look at this, you look at the man that brought the law. Joshua is a type of Christ in the typology of that. And so I thank God as you look at Moses dying, he was the law giver. And here is a type of Joshua that's a type of Jesus, the Messiah, that comes on the scene. And I thank God as we look at a lot of instances where this happens, we begin to realize that in this particular story, a lady that had been promised, basically a promise by two spies that came in. But think of this question before we get into this. Really, they didn't even have to send any spies in, even though that's what Moses did. They'd already been promised a victory over Jericho. These was a city that had walls that were huge. And God says, I'm gonna give you victory over Jericho. He didn't really have to send any spies in there to look it out, if you think about it. But God knew that there was somebody that had a need for salvation. Now, thank God, as John said this morning, is some of the things that divine intervention that began to bring these two spies to where they were. He said, well, they was in a prostitute or a harlot's place. Yeah, that was the most likable place that they could go, that they would not be seen or found. And so I think God brought them to that place to where salvation would come. Imagine every one of us, as we look through our windows today, the church has got some stained glass windows. But we've got a spiritual window that we look to, to the future. Every one of us, whether year that the Lord is doing things for our church. Every one of us have that vision that we need to be looking for. Rahab used to look out her window that was high up on a tower. It was a flat roof that was only because her window was up on a wall. And believe it or not, she looked out there and every day she said, you know what, this looks like the same every day. But all of a sudden something Because all of a sudden, she heard about the victories of the children of Israel. And it began to put a fear in her. She knew that there was something more powerful than the gods of Jericho and everything that she had ever been brought up with. And the next thing you realize, she knew that there was a God that was powerful, that was delivering the children of Israel. And that began to start something in her in the book of Joshua, in chapter 2, when it goes in this story. And I hope and pray that as we look at this, this redemption or salvation, as we start out, Jesus justifies every sinner under salvation. It's an acrostic of the name of Jesus. He justifies every one of us, amen. I thank God, Yasa is the Hebrew name for salvation. I thank God, as we look at this, it means deliverance from danger and distress and enemies So it means breadth and width of that freedom. And you know what Rahab's name means? Breadth and width. Her name actually is another name in the Hebrew, looking at salvation through the Old Testament definition, that it means that, that spacious width and breadth. Look it up sometime. If you've got a computer or whatever, you just go ahead and it'll tell you that it means breadth, name means. I thank God as we look and we realize that the Hebrew word for redeem is balahom, balahom. And I thank God as we look at this, the window is the chalim. Still the same chalim Hebrew word that I said last time. Last time though there were two Hebrew words for the window that was in Genesis, amen. And I thank God as we look today we begin to realize this scarlet thread that was there, amen. Rahab began to get into the family of God through this wonderful adventure where these two spies began to come into her residence, amen. I thank God. I took this quote from Tony Evans, amen, the black preacher, amen, and it's a powerful preacher and well-educated. This is a quote from him. He says, your future can be greater than your past. You know what? That is still so today. Your future can be greater than your past because it's not too late. Every one of us, as we look at redemption through the window of Rahab today, her salvation, many times that she looked out back. And I thank God it was the Scarlet Thread. You know, I get to thinking about a lot of things. I get to thinking about when the walls come down. You ever thought about that? You know, the archaeology today that sets the example and the facts of this, that when they went to do the excavations of this location in Jericho, there was only one section that was standing of this tower. It was the west side. It was the west side. That's how we know it was, because that was where she was. Boy, they begin to march around. They said, hey, man, what's going on? There's a Scarlet Thread up in the window over there. And they go around. That's number one. Number two, hey, that's Scarlet Thread. Y'all, what's going on? Oh, man, you heard the story about the Scarlet Thread? It was an old prostitute that got saved by the marvelous grace of God. And man, they told her to tie Scarlet Thread in that window. And that would be the promise that anybody that was in that room, in that window, they would not be destroyed. They would be spared. They would be saved, praise God. They would be redeemed. Boy, I tell you, there's something about that. I just got, that's my version of walking around. Man, what they had to look at, here's a scarlet thread coming out of a window. They said, look at that, that's a scarlet thread, man. Boy, when everything happens, and you know, I warned her so many times. She went, and they told her immediately with a promise of this, even though we ain't read the word of God. Man, they said, tie that. Can you imagine the faith? Man, is that scarlet thread, is it gonna work? Mm, is it gonna keep our family safe, amen? Is it gonna hold the walls up when everything else is tumbling down? That's a lot of faith, that's a lot of faith. And so look at the story of this window of Rahab this morning as we get into it, as she deterred the spies to go somewhere else, amen. They knew that they were there, they were looking for them, amen. If you're able to stand with us this morning, by the reading of the word of God, to honor it, we can stand as we honor. the reading of our word of God this morning. Joshua chapter 2, starting with verse 17. There's a lot of story that goes from verse 1 of Joshua chapter 2 that I'll cover later on as I preach this morning. But I thank God. Joshua chapter 2, starting with verse 17. The first instance is in verse 15 that it mentions about the slaughtered thread. But in verse 17, and the men said unto her, we will be blameless of this vile oath. which thou hast made us swear. Behold, when we come into the land, thou shalt bind this line of scarlet thread in the window, which thou didst let us down by. And thou shalt bring thy father and thy mother and thy brethren and all of thy father's household home unto thee. Verse 19, and it shall be that whosoever shall go out of the doors of thy house into the street, his blood shall be upon his head, and he will be guiltless. And whosoever shall be with thee in the house, his blood shall be on our head, if any hand be upon him. And if thou utter this, our business, then we will be quit of thine oath, which thou hast made us to swear. There are nobody else about this, amen. Lastly, in verse 21, and she said, according unto your words, so be it. And she sent them away, and they departed, and she bound the starlet lion in the window. You may be seated. Father, I want to thank you for the starlet lion in every window of the child of God this morning. That stands for our salvation. the sacrifice even today as we remember our wonderful time of remembrance through communion this morning. You shed your life's blood on that cross for all of our sins. Lord, you were broken for us, Father. Lord, I pray as we take in the bread this morning. Lord, as we drink from the cup and realize that you are the sacrifice, you are the blood. Without the remission of the shedding of blood, there's no remission from our sins, Lord. It is the shedding of blood of someone of innocence. And Father, I pray this morning, we want to thank you for being our scarlet thread, Lord. The window of our life each and every day is a better picture. Lord, no matter what happens, because we've been given out on faith and took you at your word and trusted you. And so this morning, Father, as we look out her window, we're reminded of redemption, salvation, and deliverance this morning, Father. Lord, perpetuation, Father, all the things that give us our justification, our sanctification, Father, everything about the holiness of us today, because your promise that you gave every one of us as a born-again child of God this morning. And so, Father, I thank God that as we look at more people in the family of God each and every day, Lord, we tell them about the Bible we knew pain of rehab, about the many, Lord, as she was in four books of the Bible, Father, of Genesis, Lord, of Hebrews, of James, Lord, of Matthew, of the very lineage, four books of a prostitute that was, Lord, changed and cleansed and brought into the family of God. Lord, I thank God, no matter who we run into contact with out here, the less fortunate people that are in roles of life, that, Lord, you can, no matter who they are or where they come from and whatever background they got, you can save them by the mighty blood of Jesus this morning. And so, Father, I thank God that you can make our future even better. And all that we say, that it may give glory and honor to Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen. I thank God as we look at it this morning, we begin to realize this thread of redemption in the Bible and what it means for every one of us, amen. One of the first things that we look at this morning of how the Lord has really made a change in all of our lives today. And I thank God as we try to stay alert to the word, the will, and the ways of God is that the Lord is trusted for salvation. 1972 September was the month that Rafferty Thomas, my uncle, was preaching, amen. And I thank God as he was preaching, it was that message from our Lord and Savior that I trusted for salvation. I don't know how many messages you've heard preached over the years of people that have come. And I thank God as we look at this this morning, a great blessing of a window that the Lord has given us. I thank God every one of us know this song, 540, if we get a chance to sing that. Mordecai Ham, he was out in Texas, he was preaching a message. There was a man that had got out of prison and killed somebody who had served his time. And he said, man, there ain't no hope for me no more. Mordecai Ham was up preaching, amen. He began to preach about the salvation of a savior that you could trust. And I thank God that in the middle of that message, before Mordecai Ham, could even get done. Man, he just jumped up and said, Sing! Sing! And Schofield began to take that from that very moment and began to write, page 540 in your white book, the song, amen, that we sing today. Because I thank God every one of us, we have a friend who is all to me is how that song starts out. His love is ever true. I love to tell how he lifted me and what His grace can do for you. Well, I thank God every one of us saved, saved, saved. Every one of us have a great blessing today as we look through the Bible windowpane thing, man. The storms of the ark, of Noah's ark, amen. Today of Rahab and her wonderful blessing trusting of a Savior that she had never met. She had to step out on faith. And he says, Serge, what must I do to be saved, amen? Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved. Acts chapter 16, verses 30 and 31. I mean, salvation comes to every one of us when we put our faith in Jesus Christ as our Savior. And here was a harlot, a prostitute that had made a change in her life that she trusted the Savior, amen. And I thank God every one of us, when we look at this, we realize that it was the word that she received, amen. And I thank God you can go all the way back, verses 9 through 11. We didn't read these. And she said unto the men, I know that the Lord hath given you the land, and that your terror is fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land faint because of you. For we have heard how the Lord dried up the water of the Red Sea for you. And when you came out of Egypt, what you did unto the two kings of the Amorites, and that were on the other side, Jordan, Sihon, and Ob, whom ye utterly destroyed. And as soon as we had heard these things, our hearts did melt. Neither did there remain any more courage in any man because of you. For the Lord your God." Notice she said the Lord, how many times? Three times in just those few verses there. He is God in heaven above and in earth beneath. Man, I'm going to tell you, she already had heard about it. And because she heard about what the Lord was doing, that began to put a fear in her mind to change her, to step out on faith. So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. And so I thank God, every one of us, it's about the Lord. You heard the preacher preach it one time or another. He was preaching the word of God. He wasn't preaching his autobiography. My story, yes, my testimony be something. But man, I'm gonna tell you, it's the word of God that makes the difference today. And it was the Lord that she trusted for salvation, amen. Every one of us. You know, you look at the back of verse nine. And it begins to tell us a couple of things in verse nine, that it says, as she said unto men, I know that the Lord hath given you the land, and that your terror is fallen upon us, amen. Well, I thank God as we look at this, we realize that the inhabitants that it's talking about there, in verse nine, it says how the hearts did melt. The word faint in verse nine, that it's talking about, amen. Well, I tell you, it begins to tell us some of the greatest things right there. And last it says, and that all the inhabitants of the land Thank because of you. You know what that word means? It means to melt. It means to soften. Boy, I'll tell you, that's exactly what He did to my heart when I began to hear the Word of God from the preacher, amen. It began to take this old hard heart, and it began to soften it, and it began to melt my heart, amen, and change it for the better, amen. Boy, I thank God, even back in Joshua, here is the message, the change from the law of Moses to Joshua, that is a type of Christ. that is coming in, amen. Boy, I tell you, God softened us up, amen. Every one of us. And so it was the word that she received and the Lord that she had received as well, amen. And what she said in verse 11, amen. Every one of us. Salvation is simply an act of believing on Christ or trusting Him as your Savior, amen. In our faith today, each and every one of us, what do you do to understand everything about being saved, amen? It is all about faith, amen. That's the answer. None of us could work our way into heaven, amen. It is all based on faith that we stepped out, the substance of things hopeful, the evidence of things not seen, amen. And so every one of us today, as we go to rehab and we begin to look at her story about the scarlet thread delivered through salvation and protection and security, amen, she began to get into the family of God the only way that she could, amen. And I thank God, every one of us, for our sins are being washed away. I thank God, every one of us, what Rahab did was a very sinful thing. All she did was tie this scarlet thread, this cord that was strong enough, from the flaxes that was on the top of that flat building that she put up there, amen. I wanna tell you something, the mace broke with, back in those days, it took that bug, it was a bug, They had that, and they had a rock, history tells. But she had this bug, and it took that crush of that bug and that dye. Do you know they could not take that dye? and transfer it somewheres back in those days, they would put it in the rope, because it would take the dye in. And they would cut that rope in six inches pieces. And they would take that six inches of rope that had that dye in, and when they began to transfer the dye into a cloth, they would put that in the water with the cloth, and it would come out of the rope. And that's how they transferred the dye back in those days, amen. Not like the old mountain men on television, amen. A couple of them guys had to go get the horse droppings, Load in with a high and play a man across there. that's their, the hog's root, you know. And then the stuff that comes out of the chicken is used in the garden. All of the old things that people, they don't even pay attention to, but everything that people did back in old days, there was a purpose for it. There was no waste, is the point. And I thank God today as we look and realize the life of this lady that began to make a change in her life. And so we see that it was the Lord Jesus Christ that she trusted. Also with secularism like that was transformed by salvation as well. It transformed her life. It changed her completely, amen, into a different person. The Bible says, therefore, if any man be in Christ, he's a new creature. Old things are passed away. The old things are becoming new in 2 Corinthians 5, 17. Salvation produces a marvelous change. in a person's life, amen. I don't care if you're an old druggie, an alcoholic, whatever it is, maybe he was so pearly white that you squint when you walk, but God needed to transform you still because you still didn't have what it took to get into heaven, amen. But because of his shed blood on the cross of Calvary, amen, every one of us have the that was shed on the cross of Calvary. Every one of us that we go through today. And so I thank God as we look at this, what she had been is what this was. She had been an old prostitute. She had lived a life of immorality, amen. But it didn't matter when God came on the scene in her life. That was what she had been, amen. He began to transform her, change her. And I thank God where she had been condemned to the depths of hell, boy, she had a transformation that took place in her life, amen. And so I'm so thankful today. as we look at that transformation of the statistics, eh, man? Here, she began to marry Solomon. Now, you notice some of the notes I put in here. You know what I like to think of the romantic of this? And this is the only romantic. You say, she's a prostitute. Yeah, but the two spies, I like to think one of them two spies that came by and they were there and met her was one of the ones that met her. I don't know, but I'm gonna tell you, I like to think that, okay? I don't know that, but I think, man, one of them was Solomon. He was one of those two. That's my version of it. And man, when he saw her, he said, man, what a woman right there. And then either way the story goes, the Bible says that she married Solomon, and they had a son named Boaz. And Boaz begot Jesse. And Jesse begot all of the sons, even King David himself, to get into the very lineage. And so the very first mention is in Joshua chapter 2, verse 1. The final mention is in James chapter 2, 25. Amen. The meaning of her name? I want to what she would become, what her lineage was, and what we're talking about, and what a change that happened in her life in Matthew chapter 1, verse 5, that you read about this lady, amen. I thank God of all the stories in the Bible that here, Hebrews, you read about this woman, amen. Right along with Sarah, Abraham's wife, amen. Here she is, hallelujah. Yes, she got transformed. In the book of James, hallelujah. She got transformed. Yes, she's no longer the same person that she was, amen. But she was transformed to something else, amen. Moving right along, amen. We look at the line that is a token of that salvation. When we read verse 12, we already read verses 17 through 21. And the token was the scarlet liner. That was the token, amen. That was the promise that was given, amen. And so I thank God, Lord, time's already passed today, amen. I thank God every one of us, as we look at that this morning, realize in our closing thing, it was the price of salvation, amen. The scarlet line that reminds us the basis of our salvation today is the blood that Jesus Christ shed on Calvary's cross, amen. In the man in faith, amen. And I thank God in verse 14 that we see that, that she said, listen, and the men answered her, our life for yours, if you utter not this our business, and it shall be when the Lord has given us the land that we will do kindly and truly with thee. She came into the family of God, amen. Well, I tell you, you imagine how old she might have felt many days when she went to make sure that cord was still in the window, amen. Now that's my, that's my token right there, that I'll be safe, amen. That I'll be spared and all of my family, if that starlet thread is in the window, amen. Well, I thank God every one of them. Satan tells us that we're fools for believing in Jesus. I've been telling him, rehab that starlet thread, it ain't gonna protect you. I don't know. The devil tells us every day how that we're worthless and we're no good, but you need to tell him under the blood of Jesus, that you are born again, child of the King, because you've been bought and paid for by Christ. As we stand this morning, and Sister Sheila comes to the piano this morning, I want to give you an opportunity to come up and have a word of prayer. Maybe there's something that you need to do this morning, amen? And I thank God through that token was that starlet thread, amen, that took life to make it, amen, each and every one of us. You want to open the doors of People's Father Baptist Church by lyric, by baptism, or by statement of faith that you can come this morning as we sing.
