God's reason: “Let my firstborn go.” The Lord Jesus Christ was present in
Israel in promise, in the physical seed of Abraham, and in the promise that all the world would be blessed. If Pharaoh did not let the people go, the penalty would be the death of all the first born of Egypt, including the firstborn of Pharaoh.
