We see the danger of self-righteousness in the Parable of the Pharisee and Tax Collector (Luke 18:9-12). Self-righteousness causes us to look down on others. The Pharisee reveals the two ways we become self-righteous: by thinking about what we don't do and do. Only Jesus was righteous enough.
