Psalm Lesson 39
Father's Day

I. David's Silent Struggle (Psalm 39:1-3)
A. Vs 1 Resolve to Guard one's speech
Ephesians 4:29 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.
B. Vs 3 The compulsion to speak God's word
Jeremiah 20:9 Then I said, I will not make mention of him, nor speak any more in his name. But his word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I was weary with forbearing, and I could not stay.
II. David's Request for Knowledge and Understanding (Psalm 39:4-6)
A. Vs 4-5 Praying for a Divine Perspective Concerning the brevity of life
James 4:14 Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.
B. Vs 6 The vanity of worldly pursuits
Ecclesiastes 2:11 Then I looked on all the works that my hands had wrought, and on the labour that I had laboured to do: and, behold, all was vanity and vexation of spirit, and there was no profit under the sun.
III. David's Recognition of His Dependence on God (Psalm 39:7-11)
A. Vs 7 Relying on God alone
Psalm 62:5 My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him.
B. Vs 8 Pleading for Deliverance and the forgiveness of sins
Psalm 51:1 Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions. Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.
1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
C. Vs 9 Accepting divine
