Elijah Decides to Quit

Is God a sadist?
Is he indifferent to the suffering of his servants?
When Elijah is so broken that he want to die, God shows him his power and then speaks to him in a quiet voice, but the words are not initially comforting - they seem rather hard to our ear.

But the whole story of Elijah makes clear that God is dealing with a firm tenderness when it comes to his servants.

He still deals with his servants in the same way.
